I got one of those too. Love it when I get home and put the trailer “to bed”. One note, I’d avoid hooking up that hose used to back flush at the pooparator to that “Y”. Possible contamination that could make it’s way into your water supply for the trailer. Just a thought….
Good call - I usually have my fresh water only hose but it was too short where we were parked and didn’t even think of that with same hose. Thanks 🙏🏻
Might be helpful to use an inline back flow preventer at your rinse inlet to keep contaminants from backwashing into that hose or water supply.
Could also run the freshwater into your rig first then use your outside shower hookup with a “gray water” hose and back flow preventer to keep the gross stuff downstream.
@@misteraon ya I normally have a separate “poo” related water hose for flushing the Macerator only and a separate hose for the fresh water inlet (and flush) but it wouldn’t reach where we were parked and of course I spaced that when I made the video 😂.
Always better to document your mistakes - ha !

We use one of these when we visit my sister in Florida. It is so much easier than using a portable tank.
😊it works awesome. A 3/4 inch hose works great even with a 150 run to the house. No mess no smell .

Amazing video on how to use a macerator pump. We just got one and I wasn't sure how to get power to it but your clue on making the cord longer using an extension cord and connecting to the battery was a big help. Loved the view of the barn and that horse was absolutely beautiful.

I've been in many places and haven't seen a outside clean out in Calgary Alberta Canada I've never found a place with a clean out outside we moved to a small town now community in Drumheller and for the first time I found not just one outside clean out but 2 since I have a potapoty and I always had to dump it in the toilet or in a RV dump site and in the toilet it stinks up the whole house with the clean out out side it solved the problem with stinking up the house or finding a RV dump site it also means that I don't have to stop at an RV dump site before I get home

Glad it helped! We have a big tote and actually use the pump to pump waste up into the big tote in the back of the truck and then haul it into a dump station when we boondock long term in areas. Then I have a water bladder we fill to bring fresh water back to rv.

I built boats for about 30 years. I prefer diaphragm pumps to macerator pumps for this type of application. Diaphragm pumps will macerate the waste and also pump any little odd bits and pieces that may find their way into the system. We put them on fish boxes and we could pump coagulated blood, guts, ice, etc. out of the box. Even mono fishing line doesn't present a problem for the pump (not that you would normally see that in an RV toilet, but you never know). A typical macerator pump can jam up due to a variety of things. Fishing line would obviously wrap around the shaft but other things you'd think wouldn't be a problem can become stuck.
Also, if your macerator pump shaft fails to turn and sounds like it is locked up when you apply power, it could be that the impeller is just stuck. Most of them have the motor shaft extended out the back of the motor. The shaft has a slotted end so you can give it a turn with a screwdriver to free it up.

Hey Mountain Man - glad it was helpful to you. I’ve used it all about 10-15x’s so far so good. Can’t speak to longevity beyond that. Reviews on Amazon for the pump seemed good and there are several brands - prob most the same with a different sticker on em. The hose is just a “flex hose” style from a local hardware store - they’re usually green. If I was starting out over I would get a 3/4” to 1” diameter hose to speed it up a bit. But all in all it works fine. Def beats the hassle of moving the RV or pumping into a tank in the truck to haul it to a dump station if you’re fortunate enough to have a sewer clean out nearby!

Unfortunately not everyone has a sewer or septic clean out outside in the yard.
Not every place has a sewer clean out. In my neighborhood, that includes 14 houses, nobody has a sewer clean out. I have a sewer clean out in my basement which is difficult to access. I believe in areas with basements most clean outs are inside not outside.
Gotcha…. I’ve been able to find them everywhere we’ve traveled so far - ✊ on 🪵
Sewer clean outs are not 100% available or known to the home owners. Older homes do not have them. They're usually added later when the sewer pipe had repairs done.
Ya I realize that now - just been my experience I’ve always lived in areas where they were much more normal or septic systems.
Thanks for the informative video. I do have a few questions for you. How long have you been using the pump (or times) and how has it held up? Any issues with thermal shut down of the pump i.e. overheating and shutting down to protect the pump automatically and then turning back on when it has cooled down a bit? If it does not shut down before tanks empty, how big a holding tanks do you have? Any issues pumping slightly uphill? Finally, have you used it on warm/hot days to see performance of the pump? When totally full and emptying with the pump I do shut the pump down roughly halfway and let it cool off for 30min or so. It’s never shut off on its own. I’ve used it to pump primarily on level grade to septic clean out. Probably used it 10-15 times so far in all temps and no issues. I do know of people that have used them to pump up above the level of the RV dump as much as ten feet and had no problems. Hope that helps 👍🏼

Nice video, One thing I noticed that you didn't mention was the extension cord wrapped around your tank empty valve. What is that for?
That’s heating cord to keep the sewer pipe unthawed when we stay in super cold areas. Just an extra layer of insurance to make sure we never have issues dumping.

I don’t remember the brand but I think it’s just whatever I bought off the shelf at Walmart. It’s gray kind of nylon fabric material on the outside and I think it’s a smaller diameter hose like 5/8 inch seems to pump through it just fine.

I've been using regular 5/8 garden hose for dumping 75 feet at home, but want to use a lighter hose like yours for taking along in RV for use while traveling. Think I'll start experimenting with a Zero G 5/8 hose due to their strong reputation. It's also gray nylon-looking.

So if you are pumping uphill when it is all done how do you clean out the remaining of the water that is still primed in the hose without worry of sewage spill?
Hey there. With that collapsable style hose it's pretty easy to just squeeze it and carry all of the hose uphill and then while keeping the exit in the sewer pipe just walk the hose out squeezing it down as you go. You could also add a bunch of water in your grey tank and flush the hose with a good amount of cleaner water before disconnecting so that when you do take the hose up to higher ground and walk it out it is just dirty water to clear out. Then connect both ends of the hose together to keep anything from leaking out of the hose in storage.
That makes some great sense thank you very much! I use collapsible hoses for fresh and black water use but I wasn't quite sure how to do this. Were going to be mooch docking at my buddies house soon and where we have to dump the tanks is uphill from where we are going to be so I thought a macerator would be the way to go.@@YourJesusJourney
We're living in the 5tth wheel...
I keep having 2 issues:
1. the black water is too thick like oatmeal consistency - tried Unique and Happy Camper. Happy Camper is better at keeping the smell down. Both are not breaking down the black water.. I drain about every 3 weeks into a 300 gallon holding tank under the rig.
2. the off brand macerators stop pumping due to the thick black water... using a 3/4" hose. would the FLO-JET be better? It looks like it's the same design and only pumps 12 GPM too like the off brands
Any advice would be appreciated.

Perhaps you're not using enough water when using the toilet. If the black tank is thick then that would indicate that you need to use more water when flushing. Possibly it is evaporating if you're in a hot climate and contributing to the thicker consistency - again, more water and probably dump more often? Hope that helps. I have not used any other macerator brands so not much help there. The one we have works awesome and I've used it a lot in several different scenarios and no issues ever (Other than it's just slow).
@@YourJesusJourney thanks for the tips. Will try more water. The Unique rep said I shouldn’t mix it with others like happy camper bec it will break down the enzymes. But happy camper definitely helps keep the smell down. Need to find something else to go with unique as a deodorizer.
