Much much thx to Mr Powell, love things you get a speech on. And so Mr Rundgren isn't less adorable to reconstruct all of his genuine pasttime. I am very pleased in hearing his "Masters Voice".

A fascinating discussion with always interesting Mr Rundgren. I went to two shows in the state tour and thoroughly enjoyed them. They were visually dramatic and as Lways I was pleased that Todd followed his muse rather than trying to fit with audience expectations.

Outside L.A., "State" Tour: A guy who looked like Iggy Pop - (but wasn't) - was observed, (after many drinks), literally wailing in dismay outside the club. "I wanted to hear the good old songs", he cried, "not this new crap!" If I'm not mistaken, Todd, probably expecting this sort of thing, did a Karaoke-type-thing of his old hits at the end. Where had this fan been for the last 40 years? Why do fans think they "own" an artist? One thing a Todd fan learns early on: As soon as you have determined that his current album is the "best thing ever" he releases a new one that is Completely Different! So different in fact, that the effect can be quite jarring. But soon you discover it is the "best thing ever".

My hero too. I went to a show in London recently, and a guy sat in front of me who had turned up expecting the ballads just like Todd says in this interview. I've been there since 1973 and the music isstill amazing

GREAT interviewer here. I had not heard of Mark Powell before, but he is very pleasant to watch, and knows exactly what questions to ask.

(Dis)honourable mention for the Edinburgh gig of the State UK tour at 18.20 -- I believe the actual quote from the stage was "F*&%ing Windows 8 - piece of sh*t!!" lol.
The "little ditty" referred to, played by Jesse, was 'Lucky Guy' (always good for a sing-a-long).

This is worth the listen. Todd does warn his fans that 'State' is not a 1970s traditional show. I saw him at the HOBs in Houston. I liked the show... but if you are wanting to hear 'A Wizard A True Star' or 'Todd' you might reconsider.

Saw Todd (with Utopia) on the RA Tour in the UK in 1974/5? Myself and five friends bumped into him in a pub in the afternoon before the gig, and he downed endless pints of Guinness, and was very friendly, approachable and keen to hear what we thought of the RA album and of course Utopia (live)....I still have the T-Shirt ;O)

I did not get to see him perform earlier in his career, but made up for it in these later years, in Utopia, Ethel, Ringo All Star and other performances such as The Winery in NYC and other recordings available here and on other internet media. He is a consummate performer, sounds better than ever both vocally and instrumentally, and keeps creating interesting work like his latest offering, 'STATE'. I am still learning his whole body of work. It is a listening endeavor I never tire of.

Great interview that went into overdrive in the last section with his analysis of the industry. I'm convinced by his service subscription model theory!

What a great interview. I wish they would have touched on his guitar talent. At one time in the early 70's, he was thought of by a lot of us as the best American rock guitarist along side Frank Zappa, Duane Allman and Hendrix when Hendrix was alive.

New artist should fix your gaze on Todd Rundgren he is a wealth of information I live in Ohio he used to fill our arenas. I followed this guy for more than 30 years.

    • @bluestate69

I was going to say the same thing. Unlike other "rock stars", when you watch, and listen to an interview with Rundgren, you actually learn something about art, music, the industry, and life.

Once again Northeast Ohio, (a Huge fan base for Todd) is mentioned for selling out arenas(Richfield) as well as the clubs(agora). We would come to see him read the phone book. Why this man is not in the Hall of Fame yet is unbelievable.

For me listening to Todd ....some times it works, other times it doesn't BUT listening to State songs such as Imagination,Ping me,Something from nothing and Sir reality are as good as anything new EVER written.

Cherry Red picks some real interesting interviews! TODDS another artist I feel interesting since a kid liked him and the bands he's produced like Sparks !Etc,No world order was a great experiment and few seemed to be attracted to it I felt it excellent! Critics put it down as usual!Last work of Todd's I bought was Liars! The kind of artists I like best are the ones that can change the most so thats why I still appreciate Todd !

the man has a spark that few have at his age. the younger gen - well nuf said, none that I can see will ever have the staying power, unless someone else does it for them. Lady Gaga in 40 years ~ ugh! no offense LG but it is a one trick pony (including but no limiting Jusitn, Miley, Katy, JZ etc...)

  • @leisyislander326
    @leisyislander326 11 лет назад

Relax.... he was only making an attempt to credit Tony Bennett. Some of you Todd fans are too uptight and protective to the point where it's off-putting.
