Thank you so much for this video! You were very thorough and showed every step without wasting time. I'm using ArcGIS Pro, but the process was essentially the same. You helped me so much!
Great video! I would just like to highlight the importance of reviewing your weighting system and final route for anyone conducting their own analysis. These require your judgement, expertise and review of various iterations to perform a quality analysis. Don't just expect the tool to give you the correct answer - important for any GIS analysis.
I am investigating the effects of newly constructed rural roads by constructing a least-cost path between villages and the nearest available road. Hence, I have to construct the least-cost paths between many points (the number of villages is 1584) and lines (nearest road). However, most of the tutorials are for only two points (one starting and one destination point). Do you have another video that discusses the implementation of the least-cost path between more than one starting and destination point?
Thanks a lot! Great tutorial in great pace. I usually never use the model builder, but it seems smooth. It would be nice with some more tutorials if you have time. =)
Thank you for this video can you please take road railway pipeline powering River stream all of this to choose best road because l don't know how deal with them
Nice tutorial, I wish there were more like it. I would like to know one thing: How can you set your path calculation so that is doesn't cross rivers (but perhaps it can cross bridges over rivers)?
hi Mr Berrecal i have a question about reclassifying of this tutorial and it is that in the reclassifying of the DEM slopes part of this video you selected the Quantile method and also 10 class so how the GIS make decision for getting new values for new classification and why you choose the Quantile method ? thanks
In the Least Cost Path method, is it possible to select a maximum slope of 10% for route design? Also, the path that he suggests should be close to the criteria of Road or Highway (for example, longitudinal slope, geometric and Curve design, etc. are suitable), not walking!
The tutorial is very nice. I followed every step, but the result is not getting to my destination.... It´s close, but not at the point.... any hints why this is happening?
Hola Luis, gracias por el tutorial. Una consulta: el destination y el origin deben ser rasters también? cambié los shapefiles que eran poligonos a rasters y corrí el modelo pero me sale ERROR 99999: The operation was attempted on an empty geometry. ERROR 010045: costpath: the number of from cells is 0. Cómo lo soluciono?
Hi! amazing! Question: Why in cost distance you use destination and in cost path you use origin? does it matter if you change them (origin in cost distance and in cost path destination) ???
really great tutorial. I know this video is very old so I am sure you wont respond, but I have a question If I were to use Toblers Hiker function in more accurately calculating the cost surface, where would this fit within the model? Would I simply add this when calculating the cost from the slope?
Hello! I followed the video, and I encountered the following error: 010045: COSTPATH: The number of FROM cells is 0. Description The input that identifies those cells from which the least-cost path is determined does not contain any valid values. If the input is a raster, it should consist of cells that have valid values (zero is a valid value), and the remaining cells must be assigned NoData. Please if there is any suggestions of how to solve it, it would be great. Thank you!
Hola Luis... tengo una consulta practicamente básica. Tengo en un mapa seleccionado unas areas dentro de una region. Quiero hacer un mapa con las areas contrarias dentro de la misma región. me explico?... cómo puedo hacer eso?
This video is soooooo helpful! I almost had it too, but there's something with my destination point that comes up with an error :,,,( Could it be because I'm using multiple DEMs? I tried combining them so I could just use one DEM but it that wasn't working either. The error coming up is: ERROR 010423: E:\Documents\USC\SSCI 581\Final Project\Data\SiteSutibility.idb\c_14 _1.img(Layer_1) does not have valid statistics as required by the operation. Failed to execute (Cost Distance). If you have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong I'd love to hear! This is as far as I got on my model www.pinterest.com/pin/160018592985898269/
Sarah Moreland I would try using DTED2 or some other kind of elevation data. Keep in mind though that with those elevation rasters, horizontal and vertical measurements aare in different units so you have to reproject them so they're both in meters. I like to use DTED2 and reproject it using Mercater. Once it's projected you continue with the slope step. When using raster datasets you can also use the "Mosaic Raster" tool to combine the files into one raster.
Hi, When i try and run the cost path i get "ERROR 010067: Error in executing grid expression. Failed to execute (Cost Distance)". Any guidance on where i might be going wrong?
sir, Please help,, as you have suggested through the link to change in " .hdr " file, but ".hdr" files are only in output result and there is no such thing " Xdem, Ydem" etc.
sir this video is very helpful but iam not able to add LANDUSE file even if i have one can u help me out i need to do my project with the help of this video plz reply me when you see my msg thanku
My Prof didn't teach me a single thing of this... You put it down perfectly! Thank you so much!
Thank you!!

Glad to find a proper explanation video for this!

Worked great! First time I ran it, my data was in the wrong format. But once I got my data to match yours, smooth as butter. Thanks!
Very very valuable tutorial. I am sure if we apply this on most toads built in the seventies we will change them.
Fantastic How to Video!! Thanks for preparing & upload, It is indeed a great help for GIS professionals.
it s amazing, u gave me new perspective for ArcGis, thank u. Greetings from İstanbul
Thank you so much!!

How to add source and destination point to a file....
Sir Can you please share the least_cost_path_tutorial folder....
Sorry Sushma. My mac died on me and I've lost a lot of data. I'm in the process of restoring if I get the data you're interested I'll contact you
Luis Berrocal
Thank you so much sir.....
Thanks for this video. You were very clear and deliberate, so I could easily see what I was doing wrong before. My grades thank you. :)

I have a complex problem with Euclidean Distance. How can I measure the distance in Km/M or feet instead of degree?
In the Least Cost Path method, is it possible to select a maximum slope of 10% for route design?
Also, the path that he suggests should be close to the criteria of Road or Highway (for example, longitudinal slope, geometric and Curve design, etc. are suitable), not walking!
I believe you can add a slope criteria.
Superb, thanks for sharing

Hi! amazing! Question: Why in cost distance you use destination and in cost path you use origin? does it matter if you change them (origin in cost distance and in cost path destination) ???
the premise is to see whether cost increase or decrease as you move a distance towards a destination point.
Thank you for the help! Nicely done.
Thank you for making this video! It helped me a lot. :)
I'm doing a least cost path of a road over a large distance that crosses many rivers, is there a way to denote the places where overpasses should go?
Why is that you used quantile instead of natural breaks for the reclassify of the slope?
Thank you for the video. Would you consider providing the source data so that viewers could perform the processes as they watch the video?
Yes. Thats a great idea!! The problem is I don't think I have the data. I will look for it. Thanks for the comment
Hi! How about the Origin is Polyline shapefile and multi points Destination? Is it possible?
thank you for your tutorial Luis!:)

Angel explicame un poco mas. No entiendo que quieres decir áreas contrarias.
Thank You! Very Helpful.

Muy bueno muchas gracia! Pura vida
great Tutorial Thank you ,
Any video on how to iterate across several origins please?
No, sorry.
This might be a dumb question but, how do you create a land use layer? I have googled this and nothing has shown up.
Good questions. How to install arcmap on Mac
As far as I know you can't. I'm using a virtual machine inside my mac.
@@LuisCBerrocal thank you for response, I better to get a windows lol.
Hi, When i try and run the cost path i get "ERROR 010067: Error in executing grid expression. Failed to execute (Cost Distance)".
Any guidance on where i might be going wrong?
Take a look at this link support.esri.com/fr/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/36717 it might help you out
dear lima how did you solve this erorr becouse i faced the same erorr
thank you, sir, I am facing the same problem, I wish this link will be helpful to me.
sir, Please help,, as you have suggested through the link to change in " .hdr " file, but ".hdr" files are only in output result and there is no such thing " Xdem, Ydem" etc.
I think you have to use NoData for water, i think this acts as a barrier. ;)
Hi,
How are you running ArcGIS on a Mac? I thought I'd have to do a bootcamp, which if I'm remember correctly, isn't reversible?
I did this and at the end I got an error with the algebra
anybody have a clue what went wrong?
Thank yoooouuu...!! Cool... Could you share the hires version for me? :)
sir this video is very helpful but iam not able to add LANDUSE file even if i have one can u help me out
