I'm practicing for the brazilian any% tournament, but instead of doing it fast I have my own goals...

Just curious why did you do B-side of Mirror Temple? Is it required or something?
It's slightly faster than the A side! Even when you collect the tape and start 5B from scratch, you still gain some time. Also, I'm just used to it because of that.
I don't know anything about this game: when he's talking about going 5A or 5E at the start, is that in reference to a specific frame? I know that in SMB1 people use hex to talk about certain frames. If so, holy shit that's crazy how optimized this run is. Either way, major congrats!
Think they're referring to the stages 5A or 5B in the game? I know 5B is the faster level in normal any% but I'm gonna leave this for now and someone who actually knows this category can respond better :)

5A and 5B are different stages. At 16:21 he collects a tape which unlocks the so called b-side. Doing b-side instead of the normal a-side can save up to 20 seconds in a normal any% and I'd estimate about 5 seconds in a deathless run because there is one important skip in that level that requires dying. Hope this helps.

Grub's answer above is correct. It's usually much faster to do 5B instead of 5A, but since I'm not doing an essential skip, it's only slightly faster, but a bit harder.
This run is not optimized at all! The fastest runs are about 26 minutes long, they're a lot more impressive than this.

This is so cool I was wondering recently about the risk/reward of speedrunning while going for no deaths as a priority
It is actually a very interesting thing. Honestly, a deathless category for running could be intriguing. The safest strategies practiced to perfection would be different than the speediest strats.
@@Rickfernello How long do you think it will take, for there to be a deathless wr in regular any%?
@@salmon4402 it will never happen; a few speed strats require intentional deaths to be taken, such as the bubs drop.
If you discount these intentional deaths, it's possible that this has already happened before, but it's very difficult to check something like that.

@@blacknole5034 If you ever played a game that requires WASD, the adaptation will be easy. I also used exclusively the controller before I switched to this method.

Why did you do 5B? Edit: I didn’t know you can skip the A side
When you get a tape and complete a B side, you don't have to finish the A side; for the case or 5B, it's slightly faster. Usually it's a lot faster if you do certain speed strats, but for the sake of playing safe, it's just out of a matter of habit and being a tiny bit faster.
