      There are companies (Alien Ears) that will take custom IEMs and remold them to your ears. They just take the guts out of the old ones and put them in your new ones.

    My buddies band used these professionally and they loved them. They got them mainly for noise isolation and to increase focus. The drummer would play his custom tracks through an ipod and wouldn't even hear the band but be dead on with the tracks. Its a very great way to be precise without having to break concentration cause your battling mic feedback in some junk monitor in a hole in the wall venue... Ultimate ears insure quality regardless of venue set ups... Plus you increase stage presence. Some good stuff! Great review... I don't even own a pair myself.. I was just a merch guy / tech support.

    I have a more basic version, the 6 series, I already think they are perfect sounding, can´t imagine what the capitol version sounds like... I don´t know if this is a negative point but more of a warning when getting the ear impressions made. I got them made directly at UE at a stand in SXSW and they were taking the impressions for free. Something they did ask me that you local audiologist may not ask you is if you sing. It is very important to notice this because as the foam hardens, you need to move your mouth up and down. When you sing, your canal opens up more and in a different direction, so it is important to note this if you plan to sing as well, as the mold will be slightly different this way.

    I'm a musician and I switched to in ears 10 yrs ago, I'll never go back. Live, I can have a custom mix in my ears. I don't need a lot of bass, and I just like snare, kick & hats from the drums and vocals. They will save your hearing from outrageous stage volumes. But I use mine for use with my iPOD as well. $1k is not too high a price for custom in ears.

  • @alflud
    @alflud 10 лет назад +6

    It must be some experience. I'd pay it if I had it to spare. They'd be well worth it. People just don't get it when you say "the sound is delivered right to your ear" and "sound isolation". That's a big deal pulling that off.

  • @pgo301
    @pgo301 4 года назад

    I wouldn't exactly be critical of these at all, they are pricey for sure, but I love the idea of them. You DON'T need to turn up the volume super high to get the impact of the music or media. That's the whole thing about these types of products, they're specialized to give you the listener the whole audio spectrum of sound. It's NOT about volume on these. By the way, I spent over $12,000 on separate components in 1980 on the Pioneer SPEC 1 and SPEC 4 analog amp and pre-amp among other add ons. I still have all of them.

    I assume you already have regular monitors as apposed to in ears, cause you're probably better off spending $1000 on reference monitors and room treatment than in ear monitors. If you are performing live though, that a different story

    • @FixedHDD
      @FixedHDD 10 лет назад +12

      Trevor Lowe Geez, I have to agree with SPL. These In-Ears are only used on stage or by the musician in the studio listening to what he is playing. Mixing down audio with any kind of headphones as a reference is a complete nono. Heck even when you're listening to music on your portable MP3/FLAC Player these don't sound natural because every frequency in the audible spectrum is as loud as the others. But with a little bit of EQing you will get an eargasm. With that in mind my toenails rolled up while Logans Fruity Loops session, hehe ;-)

    • @SPL-6
      @SPL-6 10 лет назад +5

      It's not really a sound reproduction or a frequency response issue, the problem is with the stereo imaging. It's extremely hard if not close to impossible to get an accurate picture of the sound stage with headphones since each ear only hears one channel as opposed to near field monitors where each ear picks up both the left and right channels. There are some plugins that are supposed to fix this, but the technology is simply not there yet!

  • @CPTSwoopty

    Can you do an update on this product? Do you still use them? has the quality of the sound diminished? Are they still comfortable to wear? etc......

    • @mroleg904
      @mroleg904 9 лет назад

      +Cpt Swoopty (Captain Swoopty) Hey i'm monitor sound engineer in a band and my lead singer uses UIE so what can i say is im totaly pissed off how they bring high frequencies.I always got to cut off highs from 2k to make my guy happy. Also we get cable problems very often so we bought bunch of extra cables to change quickly. I would never get this ones for myself. I like shure 535 - cheaper and not personalized so before a show monitor guy always can check them in his years to be sure all the drivers are working.

    • @frostiimoon
      @frostiimoon 8 лет назад

      +Alex Ragby you could get some custom sleeves for the shures. Just slip the sleeves off when they are needed to be tested

  • @adrianblackwell29
    @adrianblackwell29 10 лет назад

    I have a pair of Shure SE535's with Sensaphonic ear molds. Shure's don't come with custom molds, but they recommend Sensaphonic who do the same process you've shown. The SE535's are $500, the molds are an extra $150. But the investment is absolutely worth it, Shure's are great out of the box, but with the ear molds, all you hear is the music. If you have a good DAC and a nice amp, listen to well mastered music and it's like hearing it all over again. Also, amazing for gaming.
    Downside, if something suddenly plays much louder on your pc, like a system notification sound, you can't simply yank these out, so it can really hurt your eardrums.

  • @allenlark
    @allenlark 2 года назад

    if you can’t afford them, i hear etymotic makes the next best thing. the er phones (er2se, er3se, er4sr) are designed to be flat response at different price points and the xr variants add a touch of warmth or bass boost

  • @NightMareOSU
    @NightMareOSU 8 лет назад

    If you can't afford to spend this much on a pair of iems, but still want to "re-experience" your music then the Fiio EX1 is a great entry/mid-range iem for around $70 that is hands down the highest rated and praised iem for $100 and under. They lack a little bit of noise isolation, but the ROI is the insanely good soundstage that competes easily with iems in the $400+ range. Believe me! They're relatively balanced, extremely clear and bass is clean and tight (not boomy or bloomy). You will not be disappointed!

  • @sorwis
    @sorwis 10 лет назад +2

    CIEMs are cool and all but I'm always really skeptical about audio products without seeing any measurements. Do UE give you the frequency response graph or measurement sheets for these products? Measuring something that is custom made is tough but they must do it for at least the QC testing at the factory.

    i'd give these 3 weeks before i'd break them lol, and the fact that i can see the tiny wires inside makes me shiver at how delicate they would be, and for that amount of money, i'd expect kevlar reinforced wires inside and out tbh

    I enjoy my bass emphasised earbuds. I don't even always listen to electro or dubstep. I find that a lot of different genres (Scottish, pop, basically everything) has so much of a more filling sound when the bass is clear but emphasised.

  • @akadanielmaia

    Ok these are way more precise though doesn't MP3 compress the song not allowing you to hear a big part of the song still?

    • @TheWargod56
      @TheWargod56 10 лет назад +7

      That's why you download your music at as high bitrate (or lossless) format, 320Kb/s MP3 is quite common and is adequate, but WAV, or FLAC are a lot better.

    • @aljowen
      @aljowen 10 лет назад +1

      He is producing music inside fl studio. Therefore he is hearing the actual sound before it has even been put inside an audio file. So he will be hearing the sound as accurately as is possible provided that his audio interface is just as good.

    • @akadanielmaia
      @akadanielmaia 10 лет назад

      I know, IJS that if buy one of these to listen to music I would still not be able to hear the actual song because the MP3 compresses it, unfortunately.

    They look like the once I use at work, difference is:
    Mine are 1/3 - 1/4 the price.
    Has a filter for isolation that can be removed, and you can plug in your iem's of choice.
    Made of silicon, not plastic (if I understood this right about this one's)
    Forgot how the isolation is without the filters.
    One con that logan might not have encountered yet is, it can get sweaty after awhile.

    I see a lot of complaints about how expensive these monitors are and I personally believe that they are an amazing investment. I see many videos and pictures of high end pc gaming setups with precision mice, keyboards, custom liquid cooling and 4k monitors and it makes me cringe when they use a pair of logitech gaming headsets or shitty proprietary speakers. Spending large amounts of money on high performance products (clothing, appliances, electronics) should not exclude audio. People listen to music a lot and investing in high end audio will greatly pay off in the long run, whether or not you use them for professionally or casually.

      @wawaweewarice5302 10 лет назад

      ***** like Gabriel said, they aren't for the average person. If $200 headphones will work for the average person with their lossy mp3 files, then great. But audiophiles, producers, musicians, and artists actually have a purpose in these. $1000 is not overkill and actually pretty cheap for a high end custom, especially from the likes of ultimate ears who charge more for their higher end customs. There are some other great alternatives such as the noble k10, JH Roxanne, JH 13 pro, westones etc. But for those who don't need/want customs in ears, the $300 etymotic er4pt/r is perfect. Some of the worlds most accurate iems, very flat, transparent and isolating

    as neutral as they might be, just for listening music (As my music production abilities don't go over "playing around") I like actually having studio monitors as in physical speaker. Idk the way sounds moves in a room and not having something on/in my ear just feels more natural to me.

      Studio monitor speakers will have a bigger soundstage and it will react with the room making it seem more natural to you. Although they wont be as transparent.

      ElitePotato8 not many producers or sound engineers I know of use IEM's, they use studio monitors in a well designed studio which won't give a false representation of any frequencies. IEM's are good, but well placed monitors even in an untreated room, in my opinion, are much better.
      (this is coming from a someone who has been learning how to produce, mix, master for the last couple of years and has experimented with many different sound options, including IEM's)

    I'm kinda surprised the fit was actually good. The audiologist is supposed to give you a bite block to reduce jaw movement so the impressions are accurate.

    wouldn't really consider these a long term investment as over time you will probably need new molds made for them as your ear grows, the acoustic changes over time.

      I looked it up, but apparently after sixteen your ear canals grow slower, and it should take a year or two before you need new molds. Doesn't sound too bad to me, but it's all subjective in what you want in life.

    • @tommydadogz
      @tommydadogz 10 лет назад

      Seth Higby yeah that's true, from personal experience you still need new molds every year or 2, the change isn't that noticeable as you get used to it, but if you measure the amount of sound that leaks over the 2 years, its off by a lot.
      Since those drivers are molded in the mold, wonder if you can change the mold without buying a new set?

      tommydadog There seems to be third party combanies that do that, but I'm not sure if JH does it. I couldn't find anything about it on their site. So hopefully it won't be an extra fifteen-hundred dollars a year to keep these things up to date.

    You will need an Headphone Amp with low Impendance out to drive those correctly. I got the UE900s which are amazing for the cost of 400 Bucks but someday I save up some money to get my first costum UE IEMs.
