Hey Greg, could you make a video about using the Apple watch without an iPhone? My parents use Android phones since forever, and it would be a huge change for them to use an iphone. I have heard that it is viable to just setup the apple watch once using an iPhone and then continue using it standalone. What would be the drawbacks and limitations of doing that? If it is possible and practical, many android users could buy the apple watch.
You really need a phone You could get a used iPhone 7 or even a 6 if you want and an Apple Watch The Apple Watch is more of an accessory but can totally be used even though you have a not great phone. The se is a good option but some features like Snapchat and Instagram and even web browsing are horrible. If you want to set up the watch with even an old iPhone se gen 1 and just use the watch that would work but there are some functions that still would require a phone later so you you would have to keep it in your possession. Also you could by a less expensive iPhone and connect multiple watches. Just look it up on apple or even Google it So you still have to have a phone but there are some good options. You just kinda have to remember that it’s still a watch and can’t do everything yet
I upgraded my series 1 to SE last month. Very satisfied with my choice. I don’t see the need to spend extra money for the blood oxygen & always on display features.
If you had sleep apnea you would use the 02 sensor. Even if you aren't using them I think it checks in the background and will alert you if a problem pops up
That always on sucks the power. I have proven that by putting my series 6 watch into cinema just tapping on the watch when I wanted to see the time. I can go 2 days on a charge in cinema mode.
The blood oxygen level is useful for people with asthma as a single use case. During asthma attacks, since your breathing is inhibited, your blood oxygen level will drop. So if you think you feel an attack coming on you could check your blood oxygen (also known as pulse oximeter), and even potentially notice when you blood oxygen is lower than normal so you could potentially use your rescue inhaler before the asthma attack fully sets in. Allowing you to recover better, faster. I myself have asthma, but the feature isn't super appealing to me because my asthma is under control. But I figured I would give you some info on it. P.S. A blood oxygen level of under 90 is typically considered to be something to pay attention too
