  • Mistakes were made and I ended up landing off by a lot.
In this video I analyze what happened, what I did and why.
I hope it might be useful to new skydivers when facing a similar situation.
IMPORTANT it's not clear from the video, but I realized there were suitable landing areas immediately after spotting my DZ. I didn't start to look for one when I was at 1000ft.
In the video I talk about choosing a landing area when I get at that altitude because I needed to be close enough to draw the overlay maps.
I should have explained that better, but it wasn't easy the way the video is structured.
    I hope it makes sense.
    This was my jump 472.

Great video to help all jumpers realize most incidents and accidents are a result of a combination of things. More great videos to help spread the word on wise decisions under canopy please.

Thanks Ronnie. I am not planning to land off again 😅, but I'll see what material I can put together in the future.

Awesome break down of the situation, I wish there were more videos like this that analyze the situation after the fact.

Thanks and yeah, I wish the same! We have plenty of cool videos because people obviously prefer to share and to watch cool stuff, but more "learning material" could be very useful.

Yeah, especially because I am not used at landing off and I never landed this far before! Luckily it wasn't too bad in the end. Blue skies!

imo the more dangerous situation here is that you could have fallen on one of the deploying canopies

    Thanks for sharing.
Would you have gained some more meters if you would have flown with full brakes?

Probably yes, but if you look at the frame with all the colored "bad areas" that would have made no difference (for the landing) as I was too low anyway.

Nah, nothing that bad, but I am sure I will have more interesting stories to share when I start to work with students. 😄

Thanks and no because nobody was home... His sister lives next door and came to check on me, but she was extremely friendly and supportive.

Why did you wait so long to decide a plan b landing area?

    • @LetsgoSkydive
      @LetsgoSkydive  2 года назад

I identified the area where I landed immediately after I spotted my DZ, but it was hard to show that in the video as I needed to get closer enough to draw the overlay colors over the different areas as I did.
Maybe I'll clarify that in the video description as well.
