Andor Episode 8 features the return of Forest Whittaker as Saw Gererra, and numerous references to that OTHER George Lucas sci-fi movie, THX-1138. We're also introduced to a key Rogiube One character, Melshi, and lay the groundwork for the ISB to undo everything Luthen is trying to build.

#Andor #EasterEggs #SawGererra
We begin with Andor being “unjustly” detained. He may not have committed the crime they accused of-hut he is the one who starred up this hornets nest to begin weight, the whole prison storyline is brilliant because it shows Cassian that there are consequences to nly fighting for himself if he had joined the rebellion, instead of running off with his share, then we wouldn’t be in prison.
He’s being processed by shore troopers, the specialized troopers we first saw in Rogue one, and who were patrolling space miami beach last episode. Not only does cssian lose his freedom, but he lost all of his credits, which soome hotel worker will pronabboy find stashed above the snower. So it was all for nothing. And this is showing him that when you try to live life under the empire, you will always suffer, unless you are one of the elites. To underscore this, his time in prison is intercut with mon mothma’s party-but more on that in a bit.
As prisoners are being processed one of the planets mentioned is Belsarvis. This planet was briefly mentioned in the High republic novels, but in legends, in an ice planet featured in the old republic comics and the new jedi order novels.
As Cassian is being sent to prison, we cut to Syril in prison of his own-his office job.
ISB agents come through because apparently Syril’s been snooping around about Andor, even filing false inquiries, saying that he misappropriated fuel. We’re seeing a common theme here with Dedra, Syril, luthen, vel and Cinta: that none of them can let anything go. They are all obsessive with their missions, and they all want to tie up the same loose end: Cassian andor.
Whereas other people just want to sweep events under the rug-like dedra’s rival B;levin, who lied in his report to make the whole event on ferix look clean, so he could take credit for a job well done. [Syril complaining about the report].
Meanwhile Cassian is taken to an under state prison, much like fortress inquisitorius where the sith inquisitors take force sensitive people. Ironic that dedra ignites a search for Cassian, when he’s already in imperial custody.
She’s appealing to Wulf Yularen for funds. He was in the last episode, but we first saw him here in A New Hope, and throughout the clone wars series as a Republic commander. It's funny how in the 70s they casted a random English guy with a mustache to wear a white tunic, and now we’re still talking about that character.
So dedra has worked out that Chekov’s stolen starpath unit traces back to a rebel operative code named Axis. so named because Luthen is the center of many different rebel operations.
Seeing the ISS have to jockey for funding reminded me an awful lot of the Baltimore police in the show the Wire, and how they had to fight for funding for a wiretap [clip, I'll find]
In the prison we learn that Cassian and the other prisoners have to go barefoot, while the IMperials get these big, heavy boots. This has a practical use, with the electrified floor, but it’s also a status symbol. Having nice footwear is an indication of high status, while people going barefoot are seen as poor, or even primitive.
Lanhiss lothal easter egg
So we’re starting to get the feeling that the emperor’s PORD decree had nothing to do with A;dhani, and that the Empire actually just wanted more slave labor. The Sldhani heist was a convenient excuse for them to implement an order they al;ready had written up.
Then we cut back to Syril, in another type of cell, as he tries to stand up for himself [i didn;t deserve what happened.``] …And neither did Cassian. I like the extra detail they put into showing how prisoners in the empire are not even regarded as people. They’re given minimum instructions, and when he arrives he gets conflicting orders [stop move stop move]. - Кино

You forgot the headdress of senator amidala in attack of the clones.
@@ericnhero1007 How could ScreenCrush miss that one?
Why didn't the Empire use it's facial recognition on Andro, when he was arrested?
I think the pieces they were building were from TIE Fighter wings. Or some TIE variant.
Isn’t the “your mum’s “ spiky hands from the tales of the Jedi S1 E6 Resolve inquisitor hands? Look very similar. 😳
Every single actor in this show is incredible and Forest Whitaker just topped it off with that performance, nice to see Andy Serkis as a non cgi character for once
Andy serkis was terrifying
Did you see THE BATMAN
Yes this is by far my favorite thing Disney has done with Star Wars :) Acting, writing, story, it is all top notch stuff, and feels original and not just a rehash of things we have seen before, but something new.
@@covertTJ he was a great Alfred
I wish he had been able to do more as Klaue in the MCU
I know they get paid for their work, but I love the willingness of some actors and actresses to reprise their roles even for minutes of screen time, no matter if it's live action or animation.
I literally felt deep dread and anxiety watching this episode. The incarceration scenes were so brutally dehumanizing, I knew instantly I would never be able to deal with anything like this for an extended period of time. So much of my history with Star Wars, I have been dealing with the evil of the Empire in the abstract or in somewhat cartoonish ways. This is something different. This strikes at the heart of what it would really be like living under an oppressive force of this magnitude. Magnificent show. Big ideas. Real human stakes. Just keeps getting better.
Yes! well said, it's a more grown up approach to showing the empire and how everyone is affected.
@@Jezee213 And I completely understand how some Star Wars fans may balk at such a painfully real approach to the subject matter. But for so many of us, this is what we have been waiting for. A truly grounded look at this universe. And there has never been a more timely place for it than now.
Same here. It really felt dehumanizing watching the empire crush people as its designed to do. The walking scene was the worst... pure dystopian nightmare fuel. Walking for no purpose, just keeping you from leisure.
You don’t have to stretch your imagination too far to know what it would be like to live under the thumb of an oppressive empire that devalues human life. Strip away all the sci-fi imagery and you’re left with the reality of our time, and of the not-too-distant past. This is the scariest part of this show, and what makes it great. It’s going back to the roots of using a fantastical story to show you reality. George Lucas did this with Episode IV, albeit in a very _lite_ fashion. It amazes me that we’re getting such a politicized show that’s not afraid to throw punches, especially from Disney.
I said nearly the exact same thing to my wife after watching this episode. Glad others are connecting with it in this way as well!
It literally feels like a book being brought to life on the screen. I love it.
I have been preaching this to whoever will listen to me. In essence, if you loved the Legends books, you'll love this series. Oh how I wish this is how all of the Star Wars shows were made. Just getting lost in an episode and before you know it, the credits roll and you have to wait a week to satisfy that itch.
except… it was never a book to begin with. Just great casting and screenwriting. Now if you said prestige movie being bright to the small screen, I can see your point… 🤔
It’s noticeable how a good script merges with an amazing production. Whereas nowadays it’s common to have scripts written to accommodate to a movie
@@ugoeze7360 I realize it's not based on a book, I was stating this show is like one of the Legends books come to life. Those stories were well written with dynamic characters.
@@terrancebragg327 agreed
The Empire has never seemed as scary as it has in this show. So good.
I feel like it was scary to me when I was a kid in the 80s...but as I got older not AS scary as real life. This show cranked it a few notches and grew up to meet me where I am now.
Funny that Dedra nicknames Luthen "Axis", when Asoka's code name was "Fulcrum".
They both were links between different cells of rebels
A balance point of the rebellion you might say
Fulcrum was also Kallus' code name. It seems to be just the name given someone in charge of multiple Rebel operations.
The empire is definitely striking back in this episode.....that was intense....I could feel the anxiety going through cassian state of mind another fantastic episode.
he is in such horrible situation
Andor is so so good, It's legit incredible, the writing, the acting, the production. Star Wars is winning me back :)
Forest Whitaker needs an Emmy for that performance. Gave me chills.
Absolutely loving this show. I do think that the ship shown was not a Z-95 but rather an x-wing. It has 4 lasers rather than 2. Keep him working hard Doug!
yeah I belive its xwing too
Yeah, it looks really similar to the one shown briefly in rouge one and the one that came in the Saw's Renegades expansion pack of the X-Wing miniature game
Love you Doug, but I think he's right.
4 lasers 4 nacelles, xwing for sure
You are correct
The Luthen ,and saw scene was outstanding i love that he named all the rebel fractions ,and that the only thing they have in common is hatred for the empire, probably explain why it all falls apart eventually after they defeat the empire.
Clearly some of these groups died out as well, the Humanist Cult sounds like it was to the right of the empire politically, so they probably just lost members as the empire got more extreme.
Just like any rebellion, the groups that make it up stay together for the war and squabble when its over.
not totally sure what Saw meant when he mentioned "human cultist" being a faction.
@@theawesomeman9821 Probably humans who don't want Aliens in their home worlds or sectors. Much like the people who oppose immigration in their countries.
@@theawesomeman9821 probably a KKK type group that hates the empire but is human superiority centric

We’ve known Vel and Centa are together for several episodes now. There was a line about them “sharing a sleeping bag” during the lead up to the heist on Aldhani.
oh I didn't get it thank for pointing out
I'm sure the galaxy will remember them as "roomates"
There was talk about her sharing a sleeping bag but i dont think they said with who until now.
@@princessjello the camera literally focused on Cinta and Vel together during that line....
This Episode gave me goosebumps all the way. The prison actually resembles the Holocaust alot, e.g. the shower scene which I found quite disturbing
Yea I felt uneasy the whole episode when they were like 30 shifts I was like I woulda freaked out and died by now
Correct. And the barbed wire is now a floor that can 'fry' you.
Also a prisoner saving themselves by mistreating fellow prisoners
@@FelonFitness Yes, Andy Serkis is a kind of 'Kapo' (concentration camp slang).
Yeah, except there were no wooden doors on Narkina 5. You might check the real Red Cross numbers from that event (roughly only 300,000 casualties, caused by disease and Allied bombing).
Just wanted to say... that there is no comparison with your videos and the other reaction/easter egg reviewers out there. You are far and away the best at what you do. Thank you for all your work. It's informative, entertaining and appreciated.
Did anyone else notice how the electrified floor temporarily disabled when the "prisoner with job" committed suicide at night? Also, the guard who was late due to having to help out another short handed floor explained himself rather thoroughly ... dialog that didn't further the plot at the time. I suspect these details will become relevant when Andor escapes.
I felt such empathy over the 'pin jam" because the characters were so invested in the task (which stops them thinking of their actual predicament). I was thinking "oh noo, they will definitely be last now"
Saw is basically space Colonel Kurtz, which makes him basically the greatest thing ever. This show takes us beyond romantic swashbuckling and into hard, painful, things that must be done in order to achieve a goal. They are giving more than their lives for this cause...they're giving their souls.
I never want this show to end.
that's how I feel each episode - don't end!
Agreed I don’t want it to end and it’s taking it’s time so perfectly, if only they had taken their time with Obi wan like this,
Enjoying every part of this. What a contrast to the Obi Wan series
Glad you mentioned Melshi, most other Star Wars channels miss that.
Any episode with Saw Gerrera is a good episode, he's such a compelling and radical character that really contrasts with the heroes we're used to
I think that's also what I like about Saw's character, by almost every account, he's not a hero. He's arguably a terrorist, and an absolute boogie man to most of the Empire that knows about him. I love that his character is a huge break from the traditional good vs evil dynamic, because in many ways, he's almost a greater evil fighting against the evil oppressors; he's a level of extreme that makes the good guys question what they're fighting for and how far they're willing to go to achieve their goals and at what cost?
@@adamluther5836 One man’s terrorist is another man’s hero. Most terror tactics were invented by every day people forced to become rebels against an oppressive government. In Saw’s case I think his fatal flaw is his perfectionist idealism - any ideologies which don’t perfectly align with his are lost, and not worth working with.
Collective action is the way ti liberation, ideals alone can only take us so far.
Cool seeing how andor ,and melshi met.
Whos melshi?
I’m a big Star Wars fan (born in 1977 so we’re the same age) you do the show justice in your breakdowns. I watch others and they are nowhere as detailed or exhaustive in the breakdowns. Thanks. I always wait for your review. I feel like you’re a fan.
Me too! 7-2-77
OMG. What have we done to deserve such great great acting?
Is it strange that I'm enjoying the Imperial investigative story more than anything else going on? The sets in this show are amazing and never fail to make me say "wow. And the shot choices for those beautiful practical sets are always perfect.
I love how Andor goes into such detail of the day-to-day minutiae: every day life under the Empire, more in depth character development, even the nuts and bolts of the criminal justice system. How is it that the Empire doesn’t know they have Cassian in their custody? They have his 3-D picture so you would assume they have his fingerprints from his previous detention, maybe his DNA. Wouldn’t that have created a match? Exactly how disorganized is the Imperial law enforcement system? (things lawyers think when they watch Andor)
I don't think that was a Z-95 outside Saw's base, those only have one canon and one engine on each wing. That looks like an actual X-Wing.
Yeah.... That was just a straight-up X-Wing lmao (albeit, an older model)
it is a t-65 partisan xwing note the 4 blasters z-95 only has 2, first seen outside saw's base in rouge one
Came here to say just this....honestly would make more sense if it were a Z-95
@@lagia5 also the exposed droid port, Z-95 has a dome behind the cockpit. Plus the engine nacelles are wrong for a Z-95. All this is 3-4 years before Phoenix squadron stole the first x-wings in Rebels.
Yeah, this seems to break continuity, since the rebels didn't get their hands on X-Wings until 1BBY when Incom was nationalized and the engineering staff defected with prototypes and plans for the new fighter
In the shop there was also the Naboo headdress that Padme wears in the Phantom Menance + Clone Wars
Saw that, too. Weird that there was a freeze frame on it and they still didn't mention it! :)
I'm kinda annoyed by this to be honest. it feel like it design for content creator who look for easter egg
LOVED watching Stellan Skarsgard and Forest Whitaker in that scene together. What a meal. I could watch a whole episode of those two characters just talking.
I love how we are seeing the events that turn Andor into the rebel we see in Rogue one. The fact he is a reluctant hero makes it even better.
Christopher Fairbank, played Mantinburgh in the Fifth Element, he was the doctor who stood outside the reviving tank. In Andor, he is the guy who jams the machine piece on table five.
Syril vs Dedra. The reason Syril smiles at the end is because Dedra tells him exactly what to do. She wants him to initiate another inquiry so that it comes to the attention her superiors. Initially, it may seem she has abandoned him, but no, she wants him to continue on this path, but cannot say it openly, so she tells him what will happen if he continues on this path, which is he will speak to someone above her, which is what they both want, and thats why he smiles because he realizes she wants him to push on.
Andor isn’t just my favorite Star Wars show, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite shows period.
Totally agreed
This episode reminds me of the Bridge Over the River Kwai and how the prisoners get invested in building the bridge, taking pride in it until they actually try to stop the rescuers.
This show just gets better and better! Anybody else get THX-1138 vibes from the Imperial prison? Awesome...
In SWTOR [Legnds] Belsavis held a Republic prison in which henius Xenophic experiments were done on non-human aliens . A remark by Sith Empire scientist was something like " I had some experiments like these in plan but the higher ups didn't have the stomach for them ".
Also, Dread Masters were also imprisoned there.
I believe that the Z95 headhunter mentioned in this review is actually a black and charcoal colored X-Wing. I watched that scene to confirm that it is indeed an X-Wing. The four laser canons are clearly visible as the shot pans to the right.
i noticed that as well.
also z95 dont have droid ports, and lastly two tubes is known for flying a partisan xwing. that same xwing can be seen in rouge one. its paint job marks it as a Cavern Angel
wow the acting is on point in this episode highlighted by the scene between Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen) and Forest Whitaker (Saw) reminds me of that final meet up between Pacino and DeNiro in HEAT
Seeing Melshi meet Andor, Saw back in all His glory, the THX 1138 aesthetic, the Shore Troopers again, Storm Troopers actually being menacing, Syrial meeting Dedra, Andy Serkis, various planetary locales, & more Mon Mothma. Highlights of the episode!
Actually, the $$ hidden above the shower will be there for quite awhile. Unless there's a mechanical issue with the shower that requires an engineer to fix (who might find it), the regular housekeepers won't be cleaning up there lol
His blaster and the manifesto are in there, too.
When Cassian was looking around the prison all bug-eyed, he was noticing (among several other things) that the guard population is staggeringly outnumbered by the prisoner population, and that some of the prisoners have some sign language worked out. I'm thinking this is going to be more of an uprising than an escape.
What a great episode. The acting is fantastic, with Forrest Whittaker’s scene a real stand out.
In Luthen’s shop, next to the Temple Guard helmet, it looked like the Naboo Queen’s headpiece Padme wore to travel to Naboo with Anakin in Attack of the Clones.
Also, Bail Organa secretly established his Rebellion 14 years before this season of Andor, and has secretly been leading it the entire time. Ahsoka also joined Organa's Rebellion, taking command of Organa's spy network very soon after the Clone War ended, within 2 or 3 years. That information that Dedra Meero found about exclusive Imperial property being stolen and distributed to rebel cells throughout the galaxy is what Organa has been doing for years, refitting small ships and freighters to make them combat capable with the military weapons that they were appropriating from the Empire. You can see evidence of Organa's Rebellion in the 2nd episode of Star Wars Rebels, which is concurrent with the first season of Andor. Dedra mistakenly thought the stolen Starpath Unit was part of a Rebel effort. It was only Cassian. But her HUGE mistake lead her to very correct info. Nobody knows what "Rebels" or "Rebellion" is. Apparently, the common man on the street thinks rebel attacks are made by various, unrelated people who just happen to hate the Empire. That's why Karn's mom called them "Rabble." Meero might possibly be the first person to correctly recognize that among the many independent rebel cells is also a network of Rebel Cells working in coordination with each other, the one that Bail Organa secretly leads.
I was so hyped when I saw Andy Serkis in the episode. He is one of my favourite, if not my favourite actor. The goat Serkis is CRIMINALLY underrated.
It’s also similar to the “company store” concept of Appalachian mines. A “free” person has a house, food, clothing, and resources available from the store. You work for a wage just short of paying off the debt to the store for using any of those things. The jobs of the town are all connected to the company and therefore not only does no one escape that cycle, it gets carried over multiple generations
There's an episode of the clone wars where Obi-Wan says "if more planets chose to stand up for themselves this war would have been over long ago!" I've always wondered why other planets under the Republic don't help the clones fight the separatives.
Just like on earth, people won’t rebel until things get really bad. If you can keep the people just slightly comfortable they won’t rebel. They might complain and protest, but they’ll only get violent as a last resort. It’s why Luthen welcomes the pain and suffering that the Empire is creating. Without it, not enough systems will join. It’s also what Leia was talking about when she said “the more you tighten your grip Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”
I couldn't help but notice that Saw Gererra's eye color changes as the timeline progresses. Seems as if his eye color became darker and darker as he grew progressively darker inside and more extreme. Changing from aquamarine (Clone Wars/Bad Batch) to chartreuse (Rebels) to dark brown (Andor/Rogue One).
Always amazed at how you get these out so fast! It seems as if other RUclipsrs (whom shall not be named) wait until you drop your content and then scramble to utilize or outright copy it. Tough scene! Happy to have the "your mom" joke back. Making us wait for it makes it all the more sweet when it arrives! By the way, those gloves look like something The Witches of Dathomir used. A.K.A. Your Mom!
Saw Gerrera is the Colonel Kurtz of this series. That couple minutes of Saw makes this series maybe the best product of disney star wars.
I love that the series is longer and with more episodes. It makes it more fun to rewatch later on!
I don't think we haver ever seen the Star Wars Universe so... raw. A New Hope shows the good guys blowing up the bad guy's super weapon, but now we know how much sweat, pain, blood, misery and death precede that moment.
This is the story and acting I have wanted since playing Dark Forces. We are missing some alien races in this andor series tho. But all in all an incredibly great show. This is top notch in every category.
I was always scared of Vader, The emporer..etc - but 'The Empire' we usually see ships and ground troops in context of battle with rebels or our heroes swinging light sabres .. so the regular people in the empire - the average "redshirts" never felt intimidating. This show peeled back the layers and OMG.. they are Terrifying when you get to into those deeper layers and see from the viewpoint of Ordinary people.. Horror movie levels of scary. This show is 'Chefs kiss'
@@serwinzzalot9989 stop with the alien races thing. In fact in the prison they were separated by home planet which everyone over looks. Will you PC people ever be happy? Space Miami was littered with aliens. By the way. The audience is human.
Great video as usual. One minor correction that is just an X-Wing in the Saw Gerrera scene. Z95's are always depicted as having a bubble cockpit more like the A-Wing's and has only two wings that don't split and feature a single cannon at each end, neither of which match the fighter seen in the show.
I recall someone saying how bad Saw looks for his age. Every time I see him it's exactly what I think. Then I'm reminded that he's been fighting a guerilla war for the last like 20 years and his aged look is a testament to his skills on the battlefield and his survival ability, god damn I love Saw Gerrera
So good, this episode and your breakdown. I appreciate the real and historical references you make because those are the same things that come to mind for me when I watch Star Wars, too. One small thing I noticed in this episode was how Mon Mothma's clothes are getting more revealing as the series progresses. In episode 4, she's all bundled up and now she doesn't even wear outerwear, as if to suggest her identity as a rebel becoming more exposed? I loved seeing the men in the prison watching out for each other, kind of like the way the people on Ferrix watch out for each other.
Always great breakdowns! Keep up the good work! One thing though- That's an X-wing (you can see the 2 port side laser cannons top and bottom) with the s-foils closed and not a Z-95...
Spiked hands at 12:58 seen in tales of Jedi episode 3 with dooku and mace windu. The locals wore them.
That Forest Whitaker damn, chills. This show is getting very interesting.
In one scene they mentioned looking to see if the tunnel under the hotel was still accessible. Later, Bix is being held in that hotel... kinda makes you think that earlier mention might come up later.
Chekhov's Sewer Line.
He'll find his credits, cause that briefcase also contains the manifesto book that the young rebel bequeathed to Andor, and he needs to read that to go fully rebel.
Something neat I noticed is that when it does the 30 shift flash-forward, Cassian's prison statement counter doesn't change.
Had a thought after the Tales of the Jedi video reminded me.
Luthen is "Axis" and Ahsoka is "Fulcrum."
Both parts of a lever which helps to change the amount of Force needed to move things around.
I liked your prison analysis, but I think you missed a few. There is Luthen's prison of his admitted cowardice; there is the prison that Mon Mothma and the elites are in, perhaps the proverbial gilded cage; there is the prison that Syril is in where he is alive, but not living (except for the little sartorial rebellion he engages in with all his efforts to tailor his wardrobe); and there is, possibly, whatever prison(s) Vel and Cinta are in.
What did you think of the episode?
Ok
We need more sequels easter eggs and less prequels notes.
Loved it!
9/ 10 really entertaining solid story driven episode. Andy Serkis is brilliant as is forest Whitaker.
I did
I love how we’re constantly seeing that Starkiller armor in this show about the birth of the rebellion. That seems very intentional to me.
The music in the episode was so Blade Runner. It was amazing.
Just want to say I very much enjoy your summaries and Easter eggs. Probably my favorite channel concerning this topic.
timestamp 12:51 looking at the items in the shop, left and behind the temple guard mask is Padme's semi-circle headdress from Attack of the Clones.
Cinta and Vel were established as a couple in like episode 3 or 4 when Cassian was looking at Cinta and someone said she already had a bunk mate. She was coming out of Vel's sleeping area. And they had certain meaningful glances from time to time.
Forest Whitaker deserves an oscar just for that scene
You missed a small, or large, detail about Saw Guerrera. He wasn't trying to destroy Geonosians. That episode occurs about 3 years after this season of Andor. And Mon Mothma sent him to Geonosis to find out why there are no Geonosians there on the planet anymore. There just happened to be a single Geonosian still alive on the planet alone with an egg, and it mistakenly thought Guerrera's team was there to kill him, so he killed all of them except Guerrera, who was then stuck on the planet for 2 days. When he was rescued by Ezra Bridger and Kanan, they all discovered that the Empire deliberately exterminated all life on the planet to cover up all knowledge of the Death Star's construction by leaving cannisters of some kind of green gas. I'm pretty sure that this is why Saw Guerrera is seen 2 years later, in Rogue One, using a breathing mask to live, because he was stuck on Geonosis near that gas. Geonosis is a toxic planet now. And there is some possibility that the Separatist ship, probably Rebels against the Empire that come from former Separatist planets, that crashed on Kenari might have been carrying that same green gas
Good catch.
It kinda sucks that we get great Star Wars this late in the game. This show is fantastic and gorgeous. If all Star Wars was this good I would be all in like I was when i was a kid. Bravo to Gilroy and the others that created this.
Would've been even better if they kept the EU intact.
Better late than never. I would love for the Gilroys to take on Jyn Erso and maybe we then see more of Saw - Forest Whitaker.
A couple of things. New (I think) to Luthen’s shop this episode is Padme’s headdress from Episode 2 when she went into hiding with Anakin, I think that the job Luthen discussed with Saw is where Saw will end up with the injuries we see in Rogue One, and when the prisoner steps onto the floor in the prison Cassian notices that there’s a period when the red light comes on but the floor is not active and resets. I think that will play a roll in his escape.
It was so good. How is Andor so damn good? Best Star Wars I've seen yet. Amazing!
The acting, the directing and the writing of this show is so good.
A bit on the grimm side, the pacing is slow and not much events per episode, but everytime the performances and the ambiance emmerses me as a viewer into the story and i love it.
Will this be the first Star Wars series that gets Emmy nominations for writing, directing or acting?
@@RichCamachoFamily the Mandalorian got a ton of Emmy nominations, the last season got like 15 i think !
Loving Andor! Renewing my faith 🙏
In my early twenties I worked at a medical device factory in a clean room 6 days a week. The Empires factory prison scenes gave me chills...the daily loss of hope in that scenario is spot on. : )
There is so much to comment on this episode, I'm glad you break it down. I thought it was one of the best episodes so far, and love how the Gilroys are stretching the boundaries of the Star Wars universe. The work prison in this was truly visionary and dystopian. And the subtle looks that Mon Mothma's husband gives her are great little touches. Speaking of light a light touch, what about the small tears in Andors eyes? And the conversation between Lucian and Saul Gerrara (sp?) was masterful. I even stopped to write some of it down. "Oppression breeds rebellion".
Thanks for the breakdown as always Ryan ,and Doug stay safe 🖖🏽😊.
i thought the prisoners on Andor's floor were building the base for Droideca's. Death Star components makes sense too.
In the first stills, I thought they were arms or legs for KX security droids. Irony.
In my head canon, they are making greebles.
Wow tbis breakdown was just incredible!! Thank you. I was kinda lost and this helped a lot! Lost lost lost!
Respect to Emergency Awesome @7:02. Screencrush and Emergency Awesome are my Go-To for breakdowns, thank you.
There is a "Greeble service" sign in Aurebesh at 41:53 of the episode - "greeble" is a term made up by folks at ILM referring to the piping and other detail-work on the outside of Star Wars ships
I pointed out to my wife that they were making greebles. Then had to explain what a greeble was. Edited to add that I do not read Aurebesh. I just recognized them from watching Adam Savage's RUclips videos.
One small detail that you didn't mention was during the transition of Cassian's first day to several days later and his sentence hasn't been reduced at all which echos what his cellmate said about not having hope for release.
it reduced by 30 on the screen if you watch it again
I can see myself, years from now. On vacation on a cold rainy day watching Stars Wars. Here's what I would watch. Andor, Rogue one, 4, 5, 6, Mandalorian. That's it. I'm good with that.
Andy Serkis is the Sersi of this universe comes back greater than before
Vel is Mon Mothma's daughter. I feel like they planted the seeds for it this episode.
They took time to point out that Mon and her husband were in a very early traditional marriage at 15 years old, and then a couple scenes later Cinta is teasing Vel for being a rich girl running away from her family.
I think Mon's daughter is not her oldest child and Vel, her oldest child, doesn't know that Mon is a rebel sympathiser and probably ran away for her mother's ties to the senate.
I like your theory about Vel. But her character could still work if she does turn out to be a senators daughter. It builds all the different motivations and backstories of why people joined the Rebellion.
Another theory I've seen floating around is that Dedra Meero is Andor's lost sister.
@@daudimasinde6280 no. That wouldn't even make any sense.
@@KingShibe You mind sharing why?
@@daudimasinde6280 nothing about her looks Kenari
He lost his money, but I’m going to be so upset if he didn’t secure Nemik’s manifesto!
You missed Queen Amidala headdress next to the Temple guard helmet. And also an alternative Starkiller helmet in the back room
Forest Whitaker’s portrait of Saw is perfect. He commands respect but is so flawed and a boarder line psychopath set in his ways. Knowing the full story of Saw you will know why.
What are they building? Which parts for the death star?
Could be the frame? Add all those parts together and you get a biiiiig sphere?
Yeah definitely the framework
Who cares it gets destroyed twice
Could the guy that was communicating with other inmates through hand signals be Ezra’s father? All of this is taking place during season 1-2 of Rebels, and Ezra’s parents did die in a planned prison escape when they stayed back to help others. Not to mention there’s a striking resemblance, and with the show Ashoka on the way, it would make sense to tie in Rebels with Andor this way.
oooo i like it
Seeing Saw made me jump up and down like a little kid. Easily one of my top favorite characters of all time.
Centa said her cover story was she was a wealthy girl running from her problems to which Vel responded that's a low blow. Gives a bit more backstory to Vel.
Amen for you illustrating all the parallels to human history. We forget too easy.
Great breakdown as always Ryan. Looking forward to your take on Tales of the Jedi
This show starts slow- but it’s one of the best Star Wars shows ever! Whoever wrote this - I want more please
"These two are f.....ing I'm sure of it" had me dead. 100% true
