People should really look past this trailer and check the actual movie out. The actual film is so different than this trailer makes it seem. It's not so much about this white woman and all that she did, it's really way more about what these Sudanese boys went through, their story, what they go through once they come to the US. It sheds a new light on American culture from the perspective of foreigners. The film doesn't make the men seem weak or inferior, it makes them seem loving and beautiful and different! It's a pretty funny and touching film, honest. AND two of the main actors are former child soldiers, so it's pretty cool to see how far they've come!

i am from Africa actually Somalia and didn't see this movie as offensive, to the contrary it was touching and i remembered my own story as a young boy trying to escape for my life from the war with my family back in 1988.
i liked the movie very much

True story, I can confess to that. Many may thinks it's a propaganda but it's not. 16 years in America. I was brought here by the World's Relief Christians sponsored organization. And I am forever great for their sacrifice to bring me here as well as thousands of South Sudanese.
Thank you for telling our story

I just watched this movie. What touched me the most? The HONOR these young men and their sister had amongst them. I did not see this movie as "going to America is a great thing" - I saw the dignity, the truthfulness and yes, the honor of these young people. We should all learn a lesson from them.

These people in the movie went to my school. (not these specific people because they are just actors, but one of them who plays Paul, actually did go to my school here in Bloomington, Indiana). The two males were REAL refugees. I think no one has the place to judge this movie but the real refugees.
I feel that people are not grasping the idea of the movie. It's more than just about white people saving the day, it's about these teens journey to make a better life and not be in a situation of war. Ever since they came here, they led successful lives. Actor, rapper, and the girl holds track records that have not been beaten since.

joelercoaster The actual girl in real life. And I meant records at my school, not the country or something. I don't remember her name, but I can ask one of my teachers who had her in their class and get back to you on that, if you would like.

    • @joelercoaster

I'm a little confused because I typed in their real names like in the movie and nothing popped up at all except the actors who were playing the characters, so we're the characters specific names just made up for the movie or were there actual people that the story is based on named Jeremiah and such? Because I know the lost boys of Sudan is a true story but is this specific story depicted in the movie based on what happen to the real life Jeremiah paul and mamere if you know? Because there is no information anywhere about the "real life" Jeremiah paul mamere and abital only about the lost boys In general.

I watched the movie "The Good Lie" and it was actually an amazing film. The film wasn't necessarily based on a white savior. It was based on the lost boys story. The film doesn't make them seem weak or dum. Although, the trailor might give the lost boys the aspect of weakness, the actually film shows the struggle and the bravery that they had to face. The film also shows the general aspect of Americans. It shows the American's selfish character and how we take for granted the privileges that are freely given to us. Everyone is blowing this up into proportions. Both films "The Blind Side" and "The Good Lie" does not give the impression of a white savior. The film does not give that impression at all. It seems as if the stories behind both films are being thrown away and not given a second glance. You might look at the stories and see a white woman saving a black man once again. I look between the lines... between the crevices of the story. Do you know what I find there? I find that there is much more to the story itself. Both stories are about perseverance, pure faith, hope, love and honest redemption. I heed you to look deeper than the story itself or you will miss something great.

A great movie. One we could all learn from. The hardships those children endured and the sacrifices they made to reach America showed us what some will go through for a better life. A life some of us take for granted. Wonderful movie.

It's not hard to take it for granted when its the life we are use to. I appreciate my grandads sacrifice in a ww2 pow camp starved to near death and tortured. Its not different anywhere life can change in a day look at ukraine. We can't help everyone on the planet sometimes they need to help themselves and progress like European nations they have had a equal time to evolve.

LOVED "The Good Lie"! I went to a screening the other night and listened to Kuoth Wiel (she plays the sister of the Sudanese refugees in the film) talk about her personal story and about the making of this film. It opened my eyes to something I did not know a whole lot about. Every one should see this and learn what they can do to help out.

I think the trailer focuses more on Reese Witherspoon's role in the film than what the film is actually about. Although I enjoyed her role in this. Actually, when I first started watching this I wondered how in the world she would fit into a story like this, but everything fit perfectly together. I see this movie more as the sacrifices each of us are willing to take for the things that matter the most in our life, and sometimes it's someone other than our self. Very good movie !!

Why are there soo many racist comments on here? I saw the movie today and it was fantastic, never thought of it as "the white man" coming to save the "black man". Just people helping people, the refugees saved Reese witherspoons character just as much as she did them, if not more. Also, if you actually watched the movie and didn't just prematurely lash out at it, the refugees are portrayed as anything but weak or uncivilized. The movie is about family, at least that's what I got from it, and after watching it I really appreciate all the great things I have in my life. I recommend this movie to everyone it was really touching.

Instead of people doing something about their oppression they like to point the finger at other people maybe people should stop being lazy and get off their asses white people are some of the first slaves .I'm Asian and halfway my people in my Laos country are getting sold and highly trafficked especially the females but even a lot ofboys. Irish people over some of the first slaves everyone's been asleep so if anything I'll this country did was make light of one racial background story. My Theory is it's even a way to turn people against each other which is pretty much with the society has done. I plan on watching this movie tonight instead of judging a trailer and it looks very inspirational.instead of bitching and focusing on the negative people try actually doing something about it or don't bring more negative energy towards the subject by projecting it verbally and doing absolutely nothing. Namaste.

CsFF4U you were once a immigrant in this country, and wouldn't be here unless you came over just like everyone else's ancestors have arrived here....... Be your own person and serve for yourself with respect for others and what they have gone through to get where they are, I think maybe you are focused on others succeeding with the opportunity this country has gave them instead of just focusin on bettering your life and working hard until you have reached those goals...... We are all one..... Don't stop Believing

This film took over ten years to get made but in the end received very narrow distribution and promotion. By incredibly good fortune I live in a city (Ottawa, Canada) where this film played for 5 weeks in the cinema. I saw it SIX times. The screenwriter, Margaret Nagle, stuck with this project the whole time . The Canadian director Philippe Falardeau did an excellent job of executing a nearly impossible narrative into a film that could be seen by a wide audience. Is it perfect? No. Is it brilliant? Yes!

I did. I watch a lot of films. She has never been good to me. Walk The Line, she's overrated. Legally Blonde, she's annoying. Mud, she's blank. Her other comedies, she's so bad and has zero chemistry with anyone she shares. To me, she's a horrible actress. +pepjrp +pepjrp I know your trying to argue with everyone and be the number one target in the comment section but, this story only talks about the Lost Boys of Sudan. The Sudanese are not the only one's suffering with civil wars and terrorist attacks. The story is very inspiring. Also, some say that another white person saves the day. What happens if it was an Asian or a Hispanic or even an African American that was sent to help them. Then this would be whole different story about a white person saving the day. But not all white people are like this. I'm a Colombian-American and from experience I see a lot of racism in this country. A LOT. But back to the point you don't have to be attacking everyone with your messages about the movie. Also this is for +Yasmeen Nasr who is from Sudan. I know how you feel about these types of movie. The "Americans" don't know the real story. But not all Americans, but just most of them. The people around the world think that Colombians are carrying drugs and that's incorrect not all Colombians are like that. So whoever is reading this should just think about your heritage and think about who you really are. Thank you for your time.

This movie shows just how strong the Sudan orphans were during a time of crisis. The Americans did not save them, they saved themselves. Also this movie is defiantly underrated .

  • @jaredoverswept
    @jaredoverswept 10 лет назад +4

I'm white, and I seriously think nothing about the race part of a movie like this when I see it. It could be any race helping any race, and I still would feel the same. I don't get on some, "Oh, the white man is so great" high horse when I see a movie like this, I get happy with seeing the good side of humanity, regardless of skin color. However, when I see a movie like Glory Road, or a movie about slavery, I get mad at the white man, and start to hate my own skin for something I had nothing to do with.
So, when a white person is happy that a character, who just happens to be white, helped someone, who just happens to be black, we are racist and full of ourselves?
    Makes no sense.

Stop hating. This movie is only showing the reality of the world we live in. The same countries who engineer wars are the ones who give visas. But even so there are still great souls among us who are truly good and help each other. Clearly this trailer only makes the movie seem very racist. But there's a beautiful story being told in this film. We should all learn from the people who survived these events. I'm grateful for this movie.

There is an amazing documentary that actually focuses on the lives of the refugees, called "God Grew Tired of Us." There are actually several. I hate these BS movies that degrade the personal triumphs of it subjects to appeal to the masses. There is a much more amazing story to be told.

I watched this actual movie and I cried and impressed so many times watching this. And now I see this trailer and feel sorry because it focuses too much on the white woman and guy. Yes they were great too but what I really shocked and impressed was the way the Sudanese refugees lived in Africa and America. Sometimes we, living in advanced countries think that helping them is the best and might focus on only what we do for them. However I really believe that telling their real situations and focusing on the fact is really important. I wondered, what if the movie’s trailer was more focusing on them? Did so many people pay attention to it? I mean, I want more people to post attention not only to or things but also the real. I want people to watch it not for the satisfaction of the fact that we had helped them. I want many people to watch it even if the movie didn’t have any white helpers. I’m not an English native speaker and not really good at writing in English so I do wish my opinion is clear to everyone and can be meaningful.

Wow I would thought that people would see this as a movie very relevant considering the number of Sudanese that have been displaced or murdered due to war. Or perhaps people enjoy knowing that guns are being put in the hands of children less than 10 years old, or sons are forced to rape their mothers, and then butcher the rest of their family. This is not about whites rescuing blacks, this is about mere children who grow up in a country where they risked death or make it to this country. Some of the lost boys have even received an education here in the states and are returning to their home country to help in the medical, technical, teaching and other areas. I've made several trips to Sudan over the years and attend church with some of those boys who are now grown men. You may like to actually wait and hear their perspective on having their story told. RW is just the draw, the real story is about these men. By the way if you have ever worked with refugees they always ask what is snow like.
