  • Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced plans to build four new temples located in Harare, Zimbabwe; Quito, Ecuador; Belém, Brazil; and Lima, Peru (the Church’s second temple in that city). The announcement came during his remarks at the Sunday morning session of the Church’s 186th annual general conference.
Earlier this month, the Church reached the milestone of 150 operating temples with the dedication of the Provo City Center Temple on March 20, 2016. The four temples announced Sunday will increase the total number of new temples announced or under construction to 27. An additional four existing temples are being renovated.
    Harare, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is home to approximately 14.2 million people and over 26,000 members of the Church. The temple planned for Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital and most populous city, will be the first in the country. The Church has three operating temples in Africa (Aba, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; and Johannesburg, South Africa), one under construction (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo) and three more announced (Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Durban, South Africa; and Harare, Zimbabwe). The closest temple to Harare is in Johannesburg, a 13-hour drive.
    Quito, Ecuador
Ecuador is home to approximately 15.8 million people and more than 230,000 members of the Church. The temple in Quito, Ecuador’s capital and second most populous city, will be the country’s second Mormon temple. Ecuador’s first temple, in Guayaquil, was dedicated in 1999.
    Belém, Brazil
Nearly 1.3 million of Brazil’s 204 million people are members of the Church. Six operating temples (Campinas, Curitiba, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife and São Paulo) currently dot the country. Another temple is under construction in Fortaleza, and two others are announced for Rio de Janeiro and now Belém.
    Lima, Peru
Peru is home to approximately 30 million people and 557,000 members of the Church. The country has two operating temples (Lima and Trujillo) and two temples that have been announced (Arequipa and the new temple announced in Lima). The first temple in Lima was dedicated in 1986.
Update (April 22, 2016): The new temple in Peru will be officially named the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple.
    About Temples
Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the “house of the Lord,” the most sacred places on earth. Unlike meetinghouses, where Sabbath worship and weekly activities take place, temples are open throughout the week and closed on Sundays.
Temple attendance strengthens Latter-day Saints in their efforts to follow Jesus Christ. In the temple, sacred ceremonies connect families forever and explain God’s plan for His children.

The stone cut out of the mountain without hands, is filling the earth right now with eternal hope, which comes because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and his church being restored to the earth again! Temples are again on the earth today, and are increasing in number! God bless you whoever you are and wherever you may live in the world!

Why does an announcer step in and interrupt the prophet? Why don't they let the prophet speak for himself?! I can't imagine interrupting the prophet. Is it true that dementia has set in?

Because there are so many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Are foreign Temples built more beautiful because of wanting to impress? Because modern Temples here in USA tend to be mundane(almost a laundry mat look)?

I wonder why Jesus would rather spend millions (or billions) of dollars to help dead people instead of living needy children?

because the gospel of Christ was never said to be about providing people with earthly needs but providing them eternal salvation, after this life. Easy enough question really.

Nate Porter of course they didn't and don't and you don't have the first clue how one obtains salvation. But I can see you tried to switch from one bad argument to another once you failed. Keep on trolling.

Nate Porter you tell me, since you seem to have already passed judgement on them as not as worthy or useful as other uses of money. Surely you know the doctrine and can support every accusation you've made. You can go to the LDS websites if you'd like some help learning the beliefs to try to make your argument based on actual beliefs. I have no interest in your arguments that proclaim you don;t agree with their beliefs, because that's not what you've been arguing. Stay consistent to your original argument, and make your case, if you can't do that and are forced to constantly chnage your argument, then you have nothing.

    • @matthewhunter6421

Nate Porter I never denied that they didn't deny the priesthood to blacks, but it did not deny them salvation, this is where you clearly have no idea what you're talking about and continue to make false assumptions, and poor arguments based on false assumptions. And there you were, pretending you knew something. I suggest you read up some more, and maybe come back tomorrow. Here is hint to help you, the original topic you pretended to know something about, is closely related to this other subject you pretended to know something about, and therein lies the answer. Can you solve the mystery? we will see, tomorrow, dun dun duuuun!

Nate Porter I didn't refuse to answer, I pointed you to the information. Do your own research. Don't be lazy. You made the false statements, inform yourself, that's your obligation. How else are you supposed to learn how to not make ignorant comments? Me giving you the answer won't teach you that, but learning to educate yourself will. If you can't even begin to make an informed statement, what's the point of debate? it's just someone who knows something arguing with someone who wouldn't recognize the truth because they never bothered to inform themselves. Are you not capable of a simple google search? Why do you think I told you to wait until tomorrow? It wasn't so you could chime in early in ignorance again. it was to allow you time to educate yourself.
