I am from the States, but still enjoyed it, I was about that age in the late 60s early 70s so I could really relate to the era. thanks again for the effort really appreciate it.

    This shakes my memory..
In 1976, aged 11 I broke my leg racing in Portsmouth Schoolboy Scramble Club.. because I was lucky enough to do this..
My Dad for whatever reason, afforded me & 2 older brothers to race ' Every Other Sunday '
It had lasted 2.5 years for me, starting approx @ 1973, & 4 years for my brothers...
I was no good.. but what excitement...
    Thanks Dad...

Not Bulbarrow but Winterborne Stickland, in the fields of my grandad’s farm.
Great memories - thank you for uploading this!

I was born in Blandford and my parents retired and built a house in Stickland. It was my Dad that told me about the schoolboy scrabbling. He loved the fact that most of the bikes were hand made by resourceful fathers, although sadly they ultimately lost out to factory built machines

Scrabbling? Didn't see any triple word scores.

Thank you Steve. Wonderful film. That lad who’s so keen he wears his helmet and goggles to the meeting. The elastic starting gate. The huge jumps possibly getting 6inches off the ground. Wearing two pairs of jeans for protection. Think I started racing in75. But regularly rode this track.
    Happy days.

Are you related to Don Rickman. I remember that was a name from that time

It does not take long to see who had what it takes to go flat out..

Fantastic to see how it all used to be.......how far it has come! but maybe not for the better or good of the sport, this was real grass roots stuff, cobbled up bikes have to be way more fun?

    • @stevehaskett100
      @stevehaskett100  3 года назад +1

Indeed. That was what struck me when filming it all those years ago. Once the factory bike manufacturers took it on, the home made ones never stood a chance. Shame really.

@@stevehaskett100 It is but I still make "home made bikes" and I love doing them, street scramblers mainly, long live the cobbled up bike.

I really enjoyed the video. I'm guessing that it is silent footage and sound was added. Good job.

@banner4141 Do you mean The smell of churned mud & damp grass, on a sunny day, with a side order of 2 Stroke Oil and Petrol Exhaust Fumes.. maybe adding a light rain shower just for extremity..
All mixed together, Shaken & Not Stirred...
Is that what you mean?.. is it really?...
I don't know what you are talking about... 😀
