Tbh I don't mind having a bunch of streams in my notifications. I'd rather know if creators I like are streaming and decide whether or not to watch based on the title&thumbnail than miss it altogether. And I do prefer having it all on RUclips, as I really don't use Twitch at all except on very rare occasions.

@@YamAlbat Bolero has the right of it Yam. As a YT content creator on YT, I myself am pretty much nixed out of getting twitch notifications half of the time bc chrome or edge is a pain as is and it's hard to get away from home base to watch on twitch or other platforms be it you or others. If you were on YT full time, I cannot say what the future would hold, but I would most definitely watch more of your content!

I’m so glad you made this video!! As a aspiring vtuber this is the question I’ve been asking myself for so long and this new twitch drama is making it harder. This summarizes all the points I needed so thanks!
For your question I think option one would be easier and less stressful. Instead of posting VODs after your done you could unlist them and put them in a playlist so that your subs don’t get notified and the YT algorithm isn’t confused.

I don't know how you have your youtube stream set up in OBS, but you can make a separate streaming profile for youtube and connect your youtube account like how you did with twitch and it will pop up your chat on it's own little dock just like the twitch one. You can also just use stream elements to get your youtube chat and alerts to show up nicely and use it as a browser source just like you would on twitch. You don't have to do all this pop up stuff anymore!! I hope this helps

Thank you for this video! I vote for Proposal 2~
In my opinion RUclips just needs to improve their API so we would have way more fun integrations for streaming. I currently stream on both RUclips and Twitch and I enjoy RUclips more for the quality of the video for viewers and the chat auto moderation is very strict too so I feel safer here.
3:45 - If you check "Enable DVR", and uncheck both "Enable auto-start" and "Enable auto-stop" in RUclips livestream window and your internet goes down, the stream will freeze instead of closing so you just need to hit start stream on OBS again selecting the ongoing broadcast and it should go back~ (Just make sure when you want to close the stream to hit "end stream" on the RUclips window too because if you end the stream only on OBS, it will freeze instead of ending)

otsuYam and arigatou for sharing your views and working hard on making a quick table with clear categories on what any aspiring streamer/Vtuber could consider!
oooh would Yam-sensei also considering looking at other platforms like Kick and... moi thinks it's Rumble? Despite negative press and all about Kick...?
There are some VRChat creators that moi knows have been streaming on Kick for various reasons (better revenue share, more lenient to VRChat streamers who sometimes accidentally show yabailewd stuff with their avvies, etc.)... 'hoping you could talk with some folks who have made the move like moxie / Alithara-sensei, locky_vr-sensei and SweetSamanthaVR-sensei and many others!
oh also 15:17 Hate raids are aplenty to trans folks on Twitch, but there are so many, many, many queer folks on there that have forged community on Twitch despite this?
It's interesting that queer/trans/enby/gender-nonconforming Vtubers seem to be not that plentiful on RUclips?
In terms of hateful/discriminatory comments, 'can attest to receiving a lot of transphobic comments on the YT section; same as with any trans/enby/GNC creator on RUclips?

Good idea to break it down by size. Recently, there has been another round of talk about Twitch streamers jumping to RUclips. Whether that is viable seems to depend on size. The prospect of starting over is probably too much for a small streamer to do because they likely will be starting from 0. A big channel can shed viewers on the switch and probably still be ok.

I personally prefer watching on twitch and have followed people I find on RUclips to their twitch channels, so I’m sure others will too. 3 channels seems like a lot, but you have diverse content that can be easily organized into those three channels so I think people would like to choose which of your content to be notified about! Great comparison video and analysis! As someone who is a livestreaming viewer on both platforms (non Vtubers as well), some things I'd like to mention from my own experience and what I know of the platforms:
-The mentioned 70/30 split on Twitch actually doesn't exist anymore, it is now 50/50 for everyone, even those who signed a 70/30 split contract in the past (assuming that contract has expired).- *UPDATE AS OF JUNE 15:* The 70/30 split appears to be back, but there are some oddly specific minimum requirements for it. Instead, some streamers (likely partners and possibly affliates) have brought it to the community's attention that the rate of minutes of ads per hour a streamer is required to run, meaning time non subs will not be able to watch the stream, has gone up significantly, appearing to range anywhere between 3 and 8 minutes of ads per hour these days. That can be a dealbreaker for some people who don't like running ads or taking away their viewers from their stream.
What I'd also like to say regarding RUclips's stream stream features: The community is working hard on that.
Twitch emote extensions like BTTV and 7TV almost all work on RUclips these days.
Truffle TV (prev. Mogul TV) is a RUclips livestreaming extension that was originally created when big streamer Ludwig moved to the platform, aiming to enhance the RUclips livestreaming experience, eventually moving on to become their own thing. They bring features including some known from Twitch, such as channel points, a battle pass, theater mode, (cross platform) raiding, etc to the platform. I will say: They have a creator waitlist and I am unsure if there are any minimum requirements and/or how long that might be especially for smaller creators. They've also only been around for about 1.5 years and still have their flaws, but have been rapidly expanding and improving in that time. The reason I specifically mention this extension is because it started off with Ludwig, who has a really good relationship with RUclips Gaming, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if Truffle TV does at some point get integrated into RUclips Livestreaming itself.
I have no intentions of coming off as a shill/sell-out by mentioning this, but personally I'd say these are reasons to include when considering what platform to choose, which is what the video is about.

  • @numbernumber25
    @numbernumber25 Год назад +5

I would go for a modified proposal 3. So the two changes would be having all streams be on Twitch, as well having the vods of vtuber design/cultural streams being on main youtube channel.
The main reason is that personally it really does not feel like it makes too much sense to have to split an audience especially since most audiences usually are sticking around for either all the streams, all the videos, or both. As different as it feels the character of vtuber is usually enjoyed with all of what they present, not just specifically gaming or singing as most times the viewer is there to watch the person entertain. Also as i had found out earlier from another person in the comment section that, the easiest way to manage the whole filling up subscription feed is to just have the vods be unlisted and added to a playlist on that channel.
The last thing to do is just find a place or medium that your viewers will be using a lot or someplace they will notice for your streaming schedule. I am not as familiar with twitch but if you are able set up a clear schedule for the week then it will save a lot of time. It does not really matter where but it needs to be somewhere your viewers check and somewhere everyone can see. If you are willing to go for it twitter may even be an option as some vtube streamers do use twitter to post their schedules of the week.

I really appreciate the video! Lots of great information. I really think the 3rd option is the best option. I am a bit biased, but, I really like the interactability and flow when it comes to streaming games on Twitch. You should still keep your home on RUclips! And you don't have to leave it, I have also debated doing multiple streams between Twitch and RUclips, I think it's a perfectly viable option if you plan it out correctly. I know Twitch (And youtube too) can be problematic at times, but I have found that you can steer the ship, and if you have a good team of mods, you can squash things pretty quick, at least in my very small experience...

This is something I've been considering for a while, but Twitch keeps making a larger consideration with each baffling and dumb decision they make in managing their platform.
Still, its a difficult decision to think through.
While I managed to reach Affiliate by achieving 3 average viewers for one month, I went back to 1-2 average immediately after accepting the offer. Having nearly 300 Twitch followers, compared to 58 YT subs, seems to hold no value as only 1% are there for my Twitch streams with any regularity.
I rarely receive raids, almost never have anyone to raid when I end stream on my current stream days, and I've only gotten a single payout in more than a year of streaming. And that was only because they lowered the threshold.
Overall, Twitch does very little for me, as a small creator. Especially with only enough time and energy to stream once and upload 3-5 videos per week.
So far the logic seems to add up such that, if most of the regulars I have would be willing to watch me on another platform, I wouldn't be losing much and could possibly stand to benefit long-term. Two of the regulars in my community have already said that they'd follow me to wherever I stream.
Plus my YT uploads and exported Twitch VoD trims, highlights, and clips already get more views than I've ever had on any live or VoD on Twitch.
I'm thinking that, if I were to deactivate Twitch Affiliate, I could multistream to either RUclips and Twitch or Twitch and Kick while integrating Ko-fi and StreamElements as the main forms of donation support. Which would mean no revenue split with the platforms for the few donations I do get.
Since I appeal to a wide age range of teenage to 44 years old, a chunk of my audience don't have money to donate anyway. So, ideally, growth to the point of being able to frequently get sponsorships would be best. So whatever course of action that would allow growth without abusing parasociality and/or asking for donations is the path I'd prefer to take.

      That changes things.
The only multistream option is basically RUclips and Kick, then. Kick even encourages using Restream by linking to it on their stream setup page.

This is a great resource video; thanks for making it. As someone who is considering making content, here are my plans: livestream on Twitch, upload Vods to a vod and clip channel on YT, upload edited content to a channel like yours, and use YT Community tabs / Twitter for posting schedules and crosslinking. This is closest to proposal 3. YT seems to want disambiguation of content types for its algorithm, so separate channels may perform better / shield you from account problems if Vods have monetization problems (though for you, not an issue). Allow fans to support how they want and consume how they want; being torn isn't an issue. The real issue is time management; this is a lot of work.

If you upload vods from twitch to youtube you have to upload them as videos not as live content, so it muddies your channel if you plan to add clips or other videos. If it just clips and vods it not so much an issue but long video content + clips + vods doesn't look good. But if you stream on youtube you have a live section. Also I heard that video suggestion to viewers is based on what they watch if they watch your shorts they will be suggested your shorts, if they videos the get suggested your videos, if they watch live streams they be suggested your livestreams. I also noticed this as well in some of my own suggested content I watch. I think it even even happens with polls and community tabs too.

as a Twitch viewer i have some hindsight
    - the whole no-Simulcast rule is pretty much impossible to enforce, even big name Streamers get away with it (& is also why the walked it back)
    - Twitch emotes are site-wide so if you like to pay for emotes you get more bang for your buck
    - so technically there is a way to keep VODs for longer on Twitch, the highlight feature does allow you to save almost the entire VoD, still, uploading to a VoD channel is the better option
as for Hate Raids, Twitch has both a built-in shortcut for Shield Mode which sets restrictions to the absolute highest until turned back off, said mode is also customizable
and you can set the allowed size of a raid, so you don't get IronMouse dropping the entire 50k Famoly on mod team of 2
    - also on that front Twitch's automod lets you add Blacklist & whitelist phrases, not just words, but the entire phrase

For me the decision is between my fear of being hit with DMCA claims without being able to properly appeal them (as you can easily overlook that one part and mess up and due to how harsh violations are treated in my country - not to mention lawyers who make a living out of it to find the smallest infringement) and the discoverability RUclips offers. It´s such a tough trade off. Any advise?

I think proposal 1 is the best and proposal 3 is the worst.
I think the cons of proposal 1 are not that bad. Like, especially considering Vtuber fans culture on youtube (which are probably a great bunch in your audience) as you said are closer to holo/niji culture which means they/we have our page flooded with streams in between clips, etc. So even tho It can be annoying to have only streams in our sub feed, we are accustomed and it only would make a difference if like you are the only vtuber they followed imo. Also, i.e. when I see a stream recommendation of yours it also helps to remind if I left a video (maybe a longer one) at a certain point to continue to watch it later so I'd even say it's kind of benefitial.
The other point about your career being over if the platform goes bananas or something happens to your channel, imo you'll have that anywhere anyways, and if you have a dedicated fanbase I think it's rescueable (Idk if this word exists).
Now about proposal 2, I think it's not bad either, especially considering you are streaming for fun but at the same time I think dividing your audience doesn't make too much sense for me at least.
Proposal 3 however, I think the cons outweight the pros, you don't like twitch culture that much, you would have to build another community there too and is more difficult to manage as you said. Also you would be dividing more your audience than with proposal 2 so it makes even less sense for me.
That's my opinion, sorry if it's too long and ofc whatever decision you make I believe the most important thing is that it makes you the most confortable (or the least unconfortable).
    Great video as always!!

@@YamAlbat Of course! Also another thought I had, is that people who are a fan of you and not the content is going to be subbing to both channels anyhow, so I don't think the streaming on two different channels thing is an issue. The people only interested in your design/vtuber edited video content might pop into those main channel streams/vods to check it out and won't feel alienated, while your closer-knit community will absolutely appreciate also being notified for the gaming/chatting streams! It's a win-win imo!

I'm definitely overly biased towards youtube in this discussion as someone who just couldn't get into twitch despite trying to follow people there but can't say option 3 isn't a smart move, if I set my preferences aside it might even be your best bet.
HOWEVER I'm partial to option 1. There's a bunch of organization tricks you can do on your end that can streamline your feed and imo be a general quality of life improvement over the other two options. One of the most useful is vod playlists (you can always make the vods in a playlist unlisted if you're afraid your vods clog up our feed) and then there's title & thumbnail formatting so the audience can tell at a glance what the stream is generally about. You can try color coding thumbnails for example, or what I like most is the bracketed "stream type" before your stream title format which is almost what you're doing right now, you just need to decide on a fixed format and stick to it instead of the less cohesive titles you have right now.
My recommendation would be following this pattern (examples for both stand alone and series streams you do): "[Gaming Stream] To the highest highs and lowest lows! || Tears of the Kingdom Part 3" "[Gaming Stream] Let's check out my abandoned island! || Animal Crossing New Horizons" "[Design Talk] Reviewing Indie Vtuber Designs! || Vtuber Appreciation episode 5" (I think calling them episodes would be cute lol) "[Design Talk] Let's Discuss Vtuber Concepts"
The one [Drawing Stream] you did was already in this format, you could borrow the words [Vtuber Discussion] from your discord for zatsus like the talking about vtuber agencies stream, you could also do [Gaming Collab] and [Collab Stream] etc. You just need to find thematic cathegories that are always applicable and your audience might want to sort by. Then you can also make these cathegories into playlists (+ separate playlists of your serialized streams).
And almost forgot but about the second option, for you right now it's not very viable because of the revenue loss but I noticed there's a good point in time during your channel growth for stream/vod channel separation that doesn't make larger creators lose out on views. So moving all of your streams to a second channel in the future and having your highlights on your main channel in a playlist with links directing to the second channel could be something beneficial later down the line.

I'm just a viewer that lives on RUclips, that watched a lot of clipper content on RUclips (most of them come from Twitch streams). Basically only on Twitch or RUclips live when timezones match for certain events, which a lot of the time don't. Lots of those who I watch are in the US or Japan. And I'm in Europe. From what I have studied, it is mandatory to seperate your content between channels to keep the algorithm happy. It takes your overall viewer interaction, so when it is split it looks like viewers are falling off to the Bot.
Thus it throttles your channel growth

Great video. I guess some of the decisions have been reversed (or publicly backpedal-ed on) and I think the 70/30 split for partners is universally changing to 50/50 unless I'm mistaken.
Tough decision to make though. Option 1 is good for not rocking the boat and also I don't think your streaming frequency is enough to flood subscription boxes. Option 3 seems optimal but requires considerably more effort. I do think there's room for more 'niche' vtubers on Twitch if you set boundaries & expectations early on. I know a lot of chill, cozy streamers with mostly lovely communities there but they're not vtubers so I'm not sure if it's THAT different as a vtuber. Either way, good luck with whichever path you choose!

I think proposal 2 makes the most sense. If you had an editor or any employees to help you, I would say proposal 3. I think just having that separation while you're still under 10k subs on RUclips would be a smart move. The RUclips algorithm is brutal, so having different types of content on the same channel is rough, especially when your livestreams and videos are on completely different topics. I don't know if this was intentional, but I see you more as an educational channel, even when you're talking about other Vtuber designs in a video-essay format. Anything that is purely gaming would probably not make much sense on this channel. I also agree with you that the Twitch audience might not be meshing as well with your content, especially as a more educational Vtuber. People come to RUclips for educational content, but Twitch is known for being more of an entertainment-based platform. You should take my opinion with a grain of salt, but if I was in your shoes, I would abandon Twitch all together, and maybe convert some RUclips Shorts into informative TikTok videos, instead.

Not sure if it has changed but last I checked RUclips shorts are better in their own separate channel from long format videos.
Shorts have their own video retention algorithm and long format usually means lower views. So the algorithm sees lower views when you post long format videos and stops promoting your short format videos.
Keeping them separate means that your short format videos get to be promoted by the algorithm based on the usually high view count on shorts. Issue is, it gets harder to mix both audiences later on, if you want to pull from shorts. Also, managing two channels.
I reiterate that this might be different now. So it might be a good idea to check.

    Im confused about some things...
A: on-platform monetization barely matters if you are small, because thats the stage where you mainly want to get new reach/viewers. And even with affiliate you wont make a lot of money, so why not default to donations first, without having to stream exclusively on Twitch?
B: The set up for RUclips is ba no means that complicated. If you stream only on RUclips OBS' integrated stream setup automates a lot and you dont even have to go on youtube for that anymore, because you can set up everything down to the thumbnail in OBS. And even when you are using something like Restream, there is no copying of Stream URLs or the Pop-out chat. I dont know what you are doing, but it seems it might be worth to take second look at the software you are using. OBS Settings - Streaming - Services - choose RUclips RTMP and just log into your account.
C: One important point especially for small streamer is again multistreaming. Depending on what Twitch is going to do in the future, it will be a choice between just Twitch and ALL other platforms all together.
D: RUclipss technical side is far superior to Twitchs. You can use way higher bitrates, have support for h.265 encoding and as it seems YT will be WAY faster with implementing AV1 encoding, what might be a BIG argument for the future in favor of YT.
Just a few points i wanted to mention.

    • @YamAlbat

C: Multistreaming/Simulcasting is now completely prohibited between RUclips and Twitch

I would say 2. You already tried Twitch and if the audience there made you more uncomfortable then you probably should not go there. Even if option 3 is better since your on more platforms. If you start dreading interacting with your audience, you could easily start dreading streaming too. But ultimately the choice is yours since you know yourself best.
I would also like to point out, even if it is off topic. For some Vtubers that do Merch and/or art commissions, do not discount Social Media platforms.
Sure ones like Twitter limit how much you can say and do but that is short form content. You could get a completely separate audience there to direct to merch, commissions or sites like Patreon.
I know Tumblr is not everyone's favorite but you can do longer written content there that people will read. I see every now and then people posting how they like seeing long post on Tumblr
TL:DR While not viable for streaming, social media sites can be a way of reaching new audiences with short form and some written long form content. Good if you have merch or a donation site.
I just do not want people to think their only avenue of income is from streaming I guess. You can do what you love while still possibly making an income

Proposal 3 100% since sadly on youtube streams can ruin your viewer retention and watch ratio and i've seen it devastate a channel firsthand. If it was a question of "would viewers enjoy seeing their feeds flooded with vods" i'm sure most of them wouldn't mind at all! This problem is entirely on youtubes end sadly. Again, it would be building from scratch on twitch but it would be good to diversify I suppose?

  • @dirzz
    @dirzz 5 месяцев назад +1

RUclips is for videos, Twitch is for streams. Every creator definitely should consider having both platforms. Asmongold is the best example of the self-contained channel system - All of the content comes from twitch and gets categorized into 3 YT channels:
    1) main one for the best content which includes sizeable (~10-40min) edited parts of the streams on certain most popular topics and lightly edited gaming VODs with the most hype games, basically a channel for content that is potentially the most popular.
    2) clipping channel for clips/highlights
    3) gaming channel exclusively for gaming/streaming VODs.
There's also a blogging channel for pure "video essay" type of content that is separate from the main brand (ZackRawwr).
There's multiple similar examples of successful content creators with the same kind of setup. Basically the whole of Vshojo, other creators like "GOT Games", CDawgVA, Pokimane and so forth. And honestly for the western streamers twitch is the main platform, the reason why it's not that popular in other countries is because they often have similar popular local alternative (bilibili, nikodouga, etc) - that's why the biggest agencies like Nijisanji or Hololive barely dip their toes into twitch streaming, although that's changing little by little.
    Love the content btw.

This is only my opinion from my personal experience as a viewer but i think third option would be overthinking it... I personally think proporsal one of having everything on your first channel would make your channel more robust and varied, where you have a bit of everything besides your main focus on videos, because if you only build an audience Only with character design videos how would the other two channels grow with no base audience? Even if the viewers here came for one thing they can simply wait for a new video, while others will become interested in your livestreams AND videos. (Which is how i personally become interested in Vtubers in the first place in here, even having one or two videos/shorts showcasing their model or their presentation or talking about anything will hook me more than having to scroll through a stream archive)
For example, I'm more of a video watcher and I'm not much interested in games, but the YT mobile app separates videos from streams so I really don't mind seeing the streams or being notified of them, because if a stream Does interest me I'm going to join it or watch it later. I think a lot of authors/video makers/streamers forget the audience can... Choose? What to watch without the need to be redirected to another channel exclusive to one type of content or another. I know why its done and it may make some think the main channel is "cluttered" but isn't that the reason playlists exist in the first place? To organise the type of things the creator does?)

Okay, finally finished the video. Let me give my two cents. I have a couple of things to say, but let say that i think proposal 1 is the best option.
Now, why do i think that? Because your audience isn't very big. That isn't to say you're a small creator, just that at the moment, I don't believe you have enough foundation to really grow the second channel relatively fast. This can be seen by the number of views the "gaming" channel has.
Like you said, people are beings of habit. We also follow the path of least resistance. This means that the more clicks we have to make to watch something, the less likely we are to do it. If i have to click on another channel to watch your live streams... in all likelihood, I'm just not gonna watch it. Keeping Everything on one channel where you have all your subscribers already is the best option.
You mentioned flooding your subs with VODs they don't want to watch. I believe this is a bad take. You don't really know what your subs want to watch. Since RUclips is new to live streaming, RUclips's audience will also be new to it. Most people probably have never even seen a live stream. But given that you are a Vtuber, and this medium mostly got popular because of the hololive live streamers, seeing a stream pop up live on their subscription tab wont be an issue for them. In fact, the more you go live, the higher the chance that they will want to see what you are doing.
You are correct in saying that your live streams have nothing to do with your video content... but that doesn't matter. The normal viewer has a million different things on their sub tab. From woodwork to DIY to ASMR to well.. you name it. You will just be one of many things on their sub tab.
And honestly? I hardly ever go to my sub tab. I know its there, but i almost never use it.
The algorithm. Who really knows whats going on with that thing? If your videos do good, then your live streams might also benefit from that. I don't believe your streams will be a detriment to your videos.
You mentioned earlier in the video that RUclips doesn't care about live streaming and so it wont be coming out with new features for it any time soon. But this is wrong. RUclips has been doing a lot of work on the RUclips streaming side. Just in the last tear they have added:
-[‘Go Live Together']. able to bring another person into your live stream through a link.
-[Live rings]. the red rings that show up when you go live
    -[Cross-channel live redirects]. raids
-[Uninterrupted split screen viewing]. instead of chat overlaying on top of the video, it now splits the screen into two parts. this is mainly for mobile.
-[Live Q&A]. able to ask your chat about something and have it separated from the normal chat.
And there have been many more. But these are just from this last year. RUclips is working hard to improve their live streaming.
To end things off, keeping everything short and sweet is the best option in general. Like you said, RUclips retention isn't great. Making things easier for viewers is really the best option.
You can still stream on twitch if you really want to. Nothing is stopping you from doing that. You probably don't even need to upload the VODs to the "gaming" channel either unless you really wanted to.
You will continue to be able to monetize your streams and continue producing the content you make without diluting your viewer base. I hope this is the option you go with. RUclips streaming is growing, it would be nice to see more streamers grow with it.

You're extra dependant on VoD, make a lot of videos, so if I had to vote, I'd say to have two RUclips accounts, one for streams/clip and one for videos.

Thank you spidyy. I really haven't used Twitch's features to their full potential before!

You can do all those alerts on RUclips too. Of course RUclips has no channel point system as of this point.

Why not both? Yeah twitch doesn't allow it, but screw them, They're not going to go after you unless you get big, so just stream everywhere.

for you straight up want to do proposal 1 or 2. 2 has an advantage of not conflicting content but both are still on youtube so as long as you promote it well you will be able to create subs that sub to both. 1 you already have the subs but any channel bans could be really bad, but as live streams are separate the mix content is not an issue. but 2 can be more benefit vs the risks of lost on the main. 3 is not great because twitch viewers and youtube don't mix well, its harder to move people from youtube to twitch but much easier to move people from twitch to youtube. The biggest advantage have to do with community with other streamers they can feed and grow each other, included stuff like the sub emotes beings able to be uses on any twitch stream, where member emotes can only used for the streamer themselves. You know the vtuber Obake PAM I see her stream on both twitch and youtube at the same time but have like 200viewer of youtube but only 20 on twitch, so there is demising returns to using both. I going to stop my rant here with a conclusion
Twitch viewers are more likely to follow streamers on other platforms youtube, twitter, discord so on. Where youtube viewers may do that are like things being all in one place more(two channels is ok as still same platform), video's, livestream, shorts, community posts, polls, these all help your community gather even where your not online, even youtube comments allows the community to talk with each other.
