@watsimp1773difference between making a monster that has multiple outs and potentally can be beat over, even if it's obnoxious to do, vs a combo, that if not stopped *in standby*, will nearly auto lose you the game. On top of that, EEV can just be in the opening hand (like in the video) so Lab does not even have to overextend, they can just flip it.

To answer your question at the end of this video and carry on the discussion - I don't think it's either of the options. It's not a necessary evil, nor is it too toxic - It is simply a symptom of a game that's been pushed to its absolute breaking point.
Consider that the reaction to this footage has been the same as the reaction to similar tournie coverage that we've seen blow up over the last two formats. First, we had Tear 0 format, where we had footage of the absolute mess of chain link 10 turn 0 bullshit. After that, we had footage of Kashtira zone lock turboing the fuck out of a guy and denying him the ability to play. Konami has since SLAUGHTERED Tear, and curbed down Kashtira while also stopping the zone lock turbo line of play by banning Diablosis.
My point in bringing up this is that even though the community called for action over what we were seeing, even when Konami DID take action, it didn't change ANYTHING, it simply passed it along down the line. Because no individual issue with any ONE specific card is the problem with this game. We already KNOW what the real problem with the game is, and that's massive powercreep pushing the game to be absolutely out of fucking control, and it's going to STAY out of control, because yugioh players are little babies that are utterly terrified of any kind of change despite constantly demanding it because the current format is ALWAYS ASS CHEEKS due to the aforementioned issues.
it sucks to see, because the way I figure, Konami isn't ever going to change this unless one of two things happen - either we have a mass exodus of players that sends a very clear signal to sort this mess of a game out OR the community says fuck you, and bands together to play the game in a more balanced fashion - A community made and driven format that Konami basically can't ignore due to it's sheer size, popularity, and most importantly, potential profit. I don't have much faith that either of things will happen, but I hope it does. Seeing them kind of support Edison like it's a real format does get me excited, so who knows?

    • @PhyYuGiOh
      @PhyYuGiOh  Год назад +2

Idk it's things like this that make playing Yu-Gi-Oh! on a competitive level frustrating, because there isn't any counterplay to what just happens. You just have to accept it.
Better players don't win all the time, I won a match vs. Shuping Xu because I topdecked into a double evenly matched, and then Eradicator'd him for 5 spells as well. Did I build my deck better? No. Did I play better? No. Did I win? Yes.
This game has great potential but its sometimes moments like this that just make Yu-Gi-Oh! unfun for everyone involved.

It's a fair card. Nobody is clamoring for triple tactics talent to be banned, yet it's literally pot of greed, delinquent duo, and change of heart in one card. The card is a risky play and might have a very low payoff. Yes, it can ERADICATE your opponent if you pull it off right and their hand is vulnerable but its not consistent at all. Absolutely, it shouldn't be banned. Even limited would be ridiculous.

Back then it was harder to get the requirements to activate eev. Nowadays it's much easier to fulfill that condition. Appointer got limited then banned and that only rips 1 card from you hand plus the hand knowledge you get. Now imagine with eev its even worse you get hand knowledge and post side you will know what your opponent will have card type, potentially ripping 2 cards minimum from your opponents hand. With there being so many great spells in the game It need to get hit asap. Your not gonna tell its a fair card. Just my opinion.

Playing Kashtira, a deck that many can call the BEST deck of the format, makes you the "one to beat", that's your waness. As a Labrynth Player, i think it goes Both ways.
I dont particularly see it as an scenario to BUILD AROUND unless your deck solely relies on said Strategy.
    Such as only spell/trap.
As proposed, had it not been ONLY spells, the result would had been very different, but is it too bad?
    Id say not really.
Card is not a Nesesary evil PER SE.
But its not the worst offender as of late.
See... I like cool combos and Interactions.
But i draw the line at the TEAMSAMX mentality of the
"This Board is unbreakable and sets like 20 negates + towers."
Theres absolutely no way all decks can play through that.
And drawing the out is one in a million.
Its hella hard to deal with fields like that.
    Skill issue maybe.
But to THAT i say, if youre gonna cry wolf for EEV resolving after DOING FULL COMBO TO NOT LET THE OTHER PLAYER PLAY... Thats very childish.
The Yugitubers are very vocal acainst Floodgate decks and Strategies because it doesnt allow their combos...
But its okay for them to do so.
"because they are proving a point"
After doing the clasic Teamsam pro gamer move.
Labbing is cool, i do enjoy, that can serve as a way to see potential threats, and yet they let them run its course for SCENARIOS LIKE THE ONE IN THE VID to happen.
Middle ground in my opinion is...
I think EEV should go, get it Banned.
    Give us an alternative then.
And the problem with alternatives, is that Those tend to BE EXTREMELY FAIR while others are running at Full force with no stop.
    That is Yugioh saddly.
Sometimes you cant choose who to play against.
I dont like Pulling a War Tank against Kids fighting with Sticks.
Every now and then i dust off my Ice barriers, and My Lavals to remember when simple Deck builds were Fun.
Its not like i dont understand competitive, in fact, because i do, i can see The problem that a card like EEV posses.
Just that i also think that they should Bann it along with hits to SOME OTHER CARDS that clearly are running Rampart.

This... The very reason why I don't to play any floodgate in Lab is because I don't want to be hit by it, is a game of two after all
Haven't watched Kash player previous matches, but I read in another comment that he made 9 zone lock PLUS fragrance on a Rikka player... Maybe that's why the crowd cheered for EEV resolving
Lingering floodgates shouldn't exist, period; cards like that (and Maxx C) where created on a different period where those conditions where hard to fullfil, but nowadays Traptrick + Lubellion, Arianna or Magician souls can do the trick
Balanced cards like Evenly match (Devastating aftermath, yet still fair), Nib and Talents are a rare sight, and Konami only has eyes for cash cows the majority of the year... They made a preemptive hit to EEV on MD cause this happened on a big event, with some luck this gets banned
Till then, we better pray for Lady to not getting hit, cause obviously she's the problem

LADY while she is a Culprit, she isnt exactly the problem.
      Maybe im biased.
But ive played a lot of it, and she has been outed way too much for my liking, because of interactions.
I dont play Viruses on my decks, matter of fact i play
      Fair Labrynths.
A more Pure Approach to it.
(no Virus, No continuous Traps, no counter cards.
Just Normal traps, of which i believe more than Half are archetype related)
So i think im not exactly in a position to say that Shes fair.
But she is a Boss monster on a deck that Doesnt inherently Sets Negates, but rather, likes to set Interruptions which may be seen as such.
      "Not negating"
Ive seen generic boss monsters being used and abuse till no end with greater power that that of Lady.
Only problem right now is that She enables Virus.
So... Id rather let Virus Go, than Getting a COOL boss monster go.

Just for curiosity sake, do you run an odd trap that isn't seen often but at least remains on your side cause is the trusty one? Or the funny tech that worked once?

If anything like all cards in the card pool. It’s unexpected. Frankly no one was thinking about EEV. Opportunity just turned out like this. This is the same game where once upon a time Blue-Eyes of all decks was meta. So frankly speaking seeing this happen shows that in Yugioh anything could happen. Both players were good sports and while we all want to win if you can’t enjoy the game regardless of win or lose, is it really worth it in the end? Now if we see a deck running around with all the different virus traps. That would be funny to see. Plus lots in the community were sick of kashtira. So call this ironic justice for last format.

Chain Called by, Gravedigger, Chain Hole (Normal traps, so can be set by Lady) or the Solemn Strike opponent used Cosmic on
Floodgates like Cactus bouncer are a thing, but Konami gives a damn about it cause it's bad, and rarely used, but imagine if someone tops with it, cause opponent didn't prepared Extra for it or didn't draw the out
EEV is worst cause not only is a lingering effect, but last for 3 turns, more than enough to finish the game... And sure, opponent could just Unicorn and go back to business, (Wouldn't be drawn, only added, so wouldn't pop the field), but didn't happened, so eyes are now over that card

@@Alessandro-rn8tp nope because combo decks also use it so it doesn't do anything to stop combo decks. If anything combo decks gain more momentum from it than rogue decks just because of the power level

I hate how the crowd claps and the commentators are so excited. That kind of yugioh deserves 0 applause and 0 excitement, it was actually a pathetic demonstration of one of konamis many, many mistakes. Literally took 0 skill to flip EEV, dinky boy didn't deserve to be the champ. Dinks skill consisted of this the entire tournament: FLIP FLOODGATE. Wow, I'm just so impressed.
    Fix your game konami...

To be "fair", Kashtira is way more hated with their in-build of banish face-down, from deck, field or extra zone, and don't forget the good old zone lock + Macro... Who doesn't love Macro? (Just overlook that rare Methaphys player)... that could explain why the cheer happened
But another explanation is that the game is being played as Konami intended, or why so many negation and floodgates still exists and are encouraged?
Fk floodgates, literally are the non spormanship representation of this game, as that opponent will do anything is needed to win

Are you under the impression that combo players just deserve to have their hyperconsistency be mandated by Konami? You know there's a risk to having your deck rely on so many spells to be consistent, right? It's called a trade-off.
