This version is excellent, and was the template for all the bluegrass, country and pop versions of the song.Has some verses that seem to have gotten lost in the latter versions, like this tune, gives
a little more of the story and why he murdered his girl.

I just realized that the recording time of this song is very long for Victor records of the era.

Sounds like it plays too slow. Especially the fiddle.

      Here's my best effort:
I asked my love to take a walk
just to walk a little ways
And as we walked a while we talk
When shall be our wedding day
We walked beneath the whispering Pines
My heart was filled with love divine
And as we neared the Riverside
I asked her when she'd be my bride
Just only say that you'll be mine
In a little home we'll build so fine
Down beside where the waters flow
Down on the banks of the Ohio
Kind sir your bride I can never be
For another has declared for me
And as she drew her hand from mine
My heart was filled with sad repine
I drew my knife upon her breast
And in my arms she gently pressed
      Crying please don't murder me
For I'm not prepared to die
I took her by her golden curls
And I dragged her down to the riverside
And as I threw her into drown
I watched her as she floated down
I got home between 12 and one
      Thinking O what a deed I done
I murdered the girl that I loved so well
Because she would not be my bride
