    It's always good to have a friend with a metal shop... he has all the cool tools! Thanks for the video and effort. It is good knowledge to have as I plan my carry-all. Nicely done!

      Yeah, he’s done a bunch of cool projects for me. Definitely good to know people with those tools and skills if you don’t have them yourself
      I thought I was going to do one video on the carryall but with this modification I ended up doing three videos on it.

    This video was very timely. I noticed the carryall when I picked up a part at TSC. I had planned to buy one someday, so I went back to get one. Noticed they stocked the "wrong" ones. You saved me a lot of aggravation.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      Great. That’s why I posted a separate video just about modifying the frame.
      I was pretty aggravated when I brought it home and set up my cameras and I was going to build the wooden box on it, and my quick hitch would not fit

    I did the same thing with my landscape rake stand. Also used 1" steel pipe, and used a wall flange for the base. If it breaks again, it'll be easy to fix.

    I was going to get the carry all at TSC - until when looking at it, I realized that it was not Quick Hitch compatible. Looked around for others, and found that the King Kutter carry all is QH compatible. It cost just a little bit more, but is otherwise identical. There are plenty of dealers that carry this. I ended up getting one from my "local" (about 75 minutes away) Agri Supply. For the price difference (< $50), it was well worth it to have a QH compatible one - this would have saved you a bunch of work.
    A different consideration for making your carry-all would be to use an IBC tote frame. Just use some U-bolts to bolt the stuff you need to the frame. But you wouldn't be able to add the 2" hitch receiver to it then. By not closing off the end of the carry-all, this will end up giving you a rear fork lift (with a 1000# capacity), and it will weight a lot less than using all of that wood (plus considerably cheaper than buying wood at today's prices - I'm buying used IBC totes for $10 each).
    Your finished carry-all looks pretty nice. Very nice job on it, and well thought out (except for the wrong length bolts on the vertical part).

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      Hey thank you for watching the videos. I also found a quick hitch compatible version at the farm and home store after I’d already made mine.
      Some of the county line ones are even compatible just not all of them.
      I use IBC totes for firewood so I thought about using those as a manlift on the front would be pretty similar.
      Thanks for all the feedback

      @Wayne,
      Where are you located? I am always looking for more totes for firewood, $10.00 is a great price. Are they the 275 or 330 gallon size? Also, do you know what was in them originally? Thanks.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I wonder where he gets those two. Where I I meant people are selling the 275 gallon totes for $60-$70

      In my area they sell for anywhere from 50 to 150. I do get a few free from my work though, that helps out alot. Seems like everyone and their dog found out how useful they are and as usual it drove the price up. There should be a ton of them available now at planting time, but then there is the issue of chemical residue in the tanks themselves if you get used ibc's that had crop sprays in them. Not sure if they get returned and reused at the cooperatives. Something to check into. I did see a bunch of the frames at a coop last fall hauling corn in but no one around to ask if they were for sale. All we can do is keep our eyes open, they show up when you least expect it, usually driving by them after business hours.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад +1

      I was able to pick some up recently for $20 apiece because they had cut the plastic totes and might not be useful for most applications but those deals are hard to come by so I bought 10 of them

    Why not just shim the vertical supports with a 2 X 4? Quick hitch then connects perfectly.

  • @garny3766
    @garny3766 3 года назад +3

    I’ve modified a few of these. Some question/issues I see...
    1. Strapping vertical for spacing. Why not just use 2x4? Sandwich in with cross boarding or mesh or whatever.
    2. The rod on top is useless. That should of been reinforced with another piece of heavy angle to make a “tee iron” or a heavy piece of square tube. Your stress is going to be back and forth more so than upward on that pin. Especially when you have it loaded heavy or something on the new hitch.
    I just wish pallet fork mfg would incorporate my design for 3 point use. There would be no need for carry all’s anymore.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback.
      1. I only needed a quarter inch of spacing out for my quick hitch to fit in and that 2 inch bar stock is cheaper than a 2 x 4 and it’s permanent. Seems like a good solution to me and how it should’ve originally been made
      I’ve built a 2 x 12 box on top of this already at the time of this comment and it’s working well
      If you think the rod on top is useless you haven’t really thought it through
      The only way that the top rail can give where we remove the material is if the top bends and the tabs next to where we removed it are still welded solid
      The only way for it to fail is if that top bends and the top can’t bend now.
      I bought angle iron to go across the top of it the way you are describing, but decided it would actually be reinforced more with that scrap bar that we use and it allows more clearance and if we had put angle iron across it
      Thanks for watching and for giving your feedback

      You’re telling me the 7-8’ of 1/4” strap along with prepping and welding 10’ is cheaper than a 2x4? 🤦‍♂️ In all honesty you would have been better off to cut and weld on new ears for all 3 pin mounts like the one in the video I linked.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      I’m very open to suggestion. I’ve made several videos talking about some thing I learned from a comment and a change I was making because of user comments.
      In this scenario I wasn’t the one being criticized. I hired an experienced fabricator who made the decision on what to do and how to reinforce this and I think he did an excellent job.
      He also explained to me why he thought it was a good way to do it.
      There’s a large difference between giving me a suggestion and telling a guest on my channel that he doesn’t know what he’s doing
      It’s all in how you carry yourself that makes the difference between offering help and being rude

    • @RockhillfarmYT

      We built a second one of these carriers on the channel and the suggestion that Grant made about welding on all new ears is how we did that one.

    King Kutter Carry All, at Rural King, has it all correct!

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      The issue with the top hook seems to only happen on some of the county line versions.
      Rural king is a regional thing because I had never even heard of it until Mike Morgan mentioned it on his channel
      I’ve seen a lot of people mention the issue with the two lower pins having a very tight clearance but if you bought a little bit better carryall you might only need to attach the receiver

    I know this video is 18 months old, but TSC is STILL carrying this version knowing it doesn't work with a QH and the 1,000 lbs rating isn't real. There are lots of examples of these failing with half as much on them. I think the rating is all at the point closest to the tractor. Put the weight evenly on a platform so the center mass is two feet out and it WILL fail at less than 1,000 lbs. They just don't care about their customers

    or, hear me out.... You simply attach 2x6's with carriage bolts to the frame of the carry all, and attach your box to that. Spaces it out 1.5" so your quick hitch connects.... Took me all of 30 minutes without welding anything!
