It's not dark in comparison to a ton of other things, but for Mario it's pretty dark to have Bowser very much take no prisoners.
Bowser literally went from trapping everyone in a castle to destroying a festival, freezing toads, blasting metoerites, lifting a castle up into space and taking over the galaxy. Bowser most likely has gotten these powers from capturing and absorbing the energy of power stars as well as star themselves.

People who prefer that the quality of the game itself goes first over everything else will prefer Galaxy 2. I USED to prefer Galaxy 2, but coming to appreciate narrative more and more pushed me towards the first game. Galaxy 2 will always be the better game, but Galaxy 1 will always be the better experience.
This story intro is one of the greatest in any Super Mario game, and even the soundtrack with Kamek blasting Mario into far outer space. I can't overlook the fact that Princess Peach just stands there doing absolutely nothing when her castle is going to get taken up out of the Mushroom Kingdom into space. While it's obvious she'd likely fail it's better to do something than doing nothing because you're literally the ruler of your own kingdom.🏰💫🤦🏻♂️
The intro is so intense. I love it. But, PEACH IS SUCH A PUSHOVER, STAND UP FOR YOUR KINGDOM. This is why Rosalina is my favorite, she is an independent space queen! That’s don’t need no man! She HELPS Mario. A true boss.

This was the first game I had ever owned. I had only seen Mario games at my friends place because for the longest time I wasn't even allowed to play video games. So when I saw this at like 8 years old with my only exposure being m64 and Mario party I thought this was the coolest thing ever. I mean it still is the coolest thing ever but man did it blow me away the first time.
I was watching Ed Edd n' Eddy's alien-themed special, The Eds Are Coming, and the opening mirrors this scene perfectly. In a nightmare sequence, giant robotic saws cut out the cul-de-sac before giant robot claws lift the entire neighborhood out of the ground and carry it off into space. Sarah is abducted along with it while Jimmy falls into an abyss in a similar manner to Peach and Mario. Interestingly, both the special and this game came out in 2007. I'm surprised that I was the only one who seemed to notice the similarities.

This story intro is one of the greatest in any Super Mario game, and even the soundtrack with Kamek blasting Mario into far outer space. I can't overlook the fact that Princess Peach just stands there doing absolutely nothing when her castle is going to get taken up out of the Mushroom Kingdom into space. While it's obvious she'd likely fail it's better to do something than doing nothing because you're literally the ruler of your own kingdom.🏰💫🤦🏻♂️

This was the first game I had ever owned. I had only seen Mario games at my friends place because for the longest time I wasn't even allowed to play video games. So when I saw this at like 8 years old with my only exposure being m64 and Mario party I thought this was the coolest thing ever.

I miss playing this game.... I never actually finished it.
I was watching Ed Edd n' Eddy's alien-themed special, The Eds Are Coming, and the opening mirrors this scene perfectly. In a nightmare sequence, giant robotic saws cut out the cul-de-sac before giant robot claws lift the entire neighborhood out of the ground and carry it off into space. Sarah is abducted along with it while Jimmy falls into an abyss in a similar manner to Peach and Mario. Interestingly, both the special and this game came out in 2007. I'm surprised that I was the only one who seemed to notice the similarities.
