"...70-80% of the time just staring at the plans..." Hear, hear! Me too. I began my RV-8 around the same time you did (still waiting on some backordered elevator bearings since December.) And after literally driving from AZ to Aurora, OR in December (Yes, December) to pick up my empennage, I am only now in the AZ heat beginning to cleco and rivet the horizontal stabilizer spars stuff. There is a definite mindset that doesn't come easy if you've never done this before nor spent your life as a metal worker. My first mistake? Match-drilling the wrong holes on one of the HS-00003.
Oh, man! Your comment is giving me flashbacks! I ended up mis-drilling HS-00003 after re-making the reinforcement angles TWICE. Cautionary tale here: ruclips.net/video/w6beqL59xuc/видео.html BTW, you'll probably be getting your bearings any day now. My HS/VS bearings came a couple weeks ago, and I was just notified that my wing kit bearings are on their way. Van's is getting caught up.
Hahaha! That’s awesome! Here’s where I’m at today: Emp done, wing stands finishes yesterday, building wing and tank cradles today. Start wings tomorrow.

Well I just stopped by and was really freaked out to see a picture of me in the background flying the RV8! I’m about a month behind you in my build.
