4:00 Decorative furniture is a tiny bit functional, it adds one or two points to the Mind (opinion of the station) and Soul (peace of mind or how evil one is). It's a tiny bonus seeing as the need stats start off at 10,000 and tick down but it's a nice bonus. The neat thing is that statistics and how they're affected are found via .txt files in the game's installation and Lindsay Fleay wrote a guide on his (now archived) Real-Time Strategic Carnage website that details everything and how it affects the aliens under Normal Sandbox/Multiplayer settings.
Cool video. Underrated game. I am surprised you didn't mention Syndicate when introducing Bullfrog! That is yet another classic of theirs. I feel like this unusual title was overlooked despite its high quality. Perhaps other games were more popular but I really liked this one and it's nice to see someone else giving it some attention. I really loved the terraforming and the camera perspective, it was unique
Thanks for the comment bro. I mentioned 3 Bullfrog games more related to startopia as style and genre. Syndicate is quite different, right? Startopia is indeed too much overlooked and it's a shame! I hope you'll enjoy my other content as well.
That's curious. Maybe there were different demos, 'cuz mine comprehended only the first mission in the enginneering deck. Maybe i missed something due to language barrier (i was 10/11 with super limited knowledge of english), or your's was indeed another one.

I remember playing the heck out of this in middle school. The demo specifically.
I remember spending a lot of time fiddling about on the biodeck.

This game gives me nostalgia. A shame the supposedly spiritual successor wasn't that good. Great video!
You mean Spacebase Startopia?
Damn I even forgot that existed...
