How can modern jazz not be popular when it sounds this good?.I am putting together a 90th Birthday Concert for 2021. I would give anything to sound and play as good as Hank Jones in his 90th year!.
You know, he has two giant jazz brothers in Elvin and Thad. It is a an American tragedy that this family has not been featured on any media outlet, including PBS. This is one of our royal musical families. They are all gone now. Sigh, I know....Katy Perry...................but hey, she will still be a part of the musical lexicon 100 years from now.
Truly one of the all time legendary masters of piano... understated but speaks volumes of innovative mastery.. and of course rock solid all star rhythm section with Kilson and Mraz
I love the way George and Billy realise that Hank (who must have been about 90 at the time of this recording) has lost a beat in the bass solo and they seamlessly adjust to it rather than embarrass him.
Estoy acostumbrado a las sonoridades fuertes y veloces de los pianistas de afrocuban-jazz pero amo la sutileza y el arte de este estilo jazzístico de Hank Jones. El acompañamiento de la batería y bajo son irremplazables
A mentor of mine once stated, "Chopin was to European classical music what Hank Jones was to African American classical music". I hear it Selim! ThanQ!
This video is truly inspiring to me. a Hank Jones was truly one of the all time greats. This version of the Horace Silver Classic is right on the money. Thanks Hank for all your great work over the years.
SMOKIN Swing Billy Kilsons Drumming is mesmerizing Intricate Colors and shades Great Tempo Articulation Dynamics Creativity And After Just listening to him with Will Bouvare Piano Richard Bono Bass and Billy Drums Doing Brubecks Take 5 Which just Lifted me off my chair .This Young Man is Tremendous I myself a Pro Drummer over 50 Years When I hear Pure Genuine Raw Talent Not Sterilized or Cookie Cutter I Take Notice 5 Times NOTICE
This is a very cool version of the original Horace Silver 1960 "Horace Scope" album one, in which Blue Mitchell was playing trumpet. Elvin Jones is considered as one of the all-time greatest drummers.
Truly beautiful, but there is no doubt oscar peterson's version of this is just out of this world, not to say that this version is lesser in terms of musicality!
Everyone has their own music taste. I'm not a grammar nazi, but just my two cents, eleveter-> elevator, are they ever listen->have they ever listened. Hope I'm not offending you. Anyway thank you for the comment.
RIP Hank Jones and George Mraz you'll be missed, but NEVER underappreciated.

One of the most tasteful pianists of all time.
Well said Charles.
美しく、繊細で豊かで、心地よく染み渡る音楽。

Kilson and Mraz were a wonderful platform for Mr jones...
The great tribute to the Baroness...

Hank is great and so was Nica
Such full voicings. And great recording quality.

Great musicians GIVE rather than take...
We still need Hank....(what a musical drum chorus by Billy)...hooray for the trio!
Kilson is wonderfully inventive...
I love Hank Jones!
Amo el Jazz! Genios Hank Jones y George Mars. Los solos, son fantásticos, soberbios.

+岡健二 Written by Horace Silver.
Meraviglia!
亡きハンク・ジョーズに捧ぐ。東京公演の後、来日の後亡くなったのは痛恨の極み。
👀
Absolute class
Superb. this man says so much in one chorus. The change in feel at 2:40 or so--tasty!
The change in feel is part of the form, but indeed tasty

tapping the edges of his cymbals straight on with the side of his stick, getting a kind of chimelike effect. Cool stuff.
