I dived into wires when it first appeared probably 15 to 20 years ago. It was full of rooms in Japan with nobody there. No info for setting up at the time and a guy from the US helped me out. So this video is great thanks. And perhaps I might get a contact when I get back into it.

I saw the USB audio card next to the radio and watched to the end, hoping you might have some answers to my issue. I'm trying to use the ftm-500 portable HRI direct mode. This allows you to connect to both the Digital and Analog rooms using the Wires-X software and the radio. I plug the audio cables in, but since I have a speaker and a mic cable... and I think the audio comes through the PC for analog, I'm confused about the signal out and how to configure it correctly. So far, I hear no audio for analog channels. Are there Wires-X app settings to configure? Do I need to tell the mic to output to my speakers in the Windows audio settings. Have you had this work? This is the mode where you press both GM+DX and Power at startup.

Hi! Thanks for the video! I also have an FT5D and an FTM500 that I just acquired, but I'm very new to Fusion. I have a couple questions. With a dummy load connected to the FTM500, how is it that the FT5D can use it as an access point to Wires-x? I'm having trouble understanding how the FTM500 could hear the FT5D if it was, for example, outside in the garden? Is it just working in your video because you're literally right on top of the FTM500 with your FTD5R? And if so, would you then connect the FTM500 to an antenna, and use a simplex connection between the two, if you wanted to connect from some greater distance away?

The reason for dummy load is to do with power output rules when the 500 is in access mode , the dummy load acts almost like a bad rubber duck .

North TX... Yes, use an antenna with the 500 to use it with a handheld or other mobile radio.

Hi Andreas, when you talk in DIRECT mode, where do you specify what frequency you want to transmit/receive on? Or can you only talk in a room? And when you talk via the FT5, how does that communicate with the FTM-500? Is it blue tooth? Thanks. Paul. M7PTH

Hi Andreas, thanks for your reply. I'm new to the hobby and struggling a bit with WiRES-X. With an FTM-300DE, connected to WiRES-X on the PC via the SCU cable, no HRI-200 box, no antenna, can I transmit/receive on a frequency of my choice? Or do I have to connect to a room?

if you were using the FT5D connecting to the FTM500, do you have any range on the FT5D like walk around the neighborhood or are you just able to use it around the house?

Hi You could walk about 50 yards more if line of sight is good .

@@HamTechRadioScannerDronesdoes it limit the power output in RF mode then?

Is only the SCU-20 cable enough to receive SSTV images, or do I need the entire SCU-58 set?

The SCU-58 cable set consists of a SCU-20 cable and a Y-Audio/Data cable. I wonder if only the SCU-20 cable is enough to receive SSTV?@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones
