Drawing from Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation, it aims to return us to the scene of grand scale robot v robot clashing. It's had some big updates in the road to its release recently, so let's take a look and see where it's at!

    Thank you so so much for covering our game! We didnt expect you to actually spend money on us!
    You may be excited to know that your video is already a little obsolete! Since you recorded it we released a patch to the game that adds another scenario, where you can check out some of the features, like being able to freeze the entire map, and break it! You should be able to try that right now, we are planning on shipping updates to the build all the way up to release!

    Also - as Zade mentioned - we are currently doing Tier 5 patreon rewards to give the demo to people who really want to throw money in our direction, but if you are wondering if you should wait - you really should. We priced that to reduce the numbers of players since we want to make sure we get the game right. We are working hard on it and are planning on rolling out access to it wider over time.

      Hello Guys, Could you please do something about the Strategic icons? They come up too early, you cannot enjoy the graphics. Maybe add a "slider" to them in the Menu? 0% Zoom level - 25% Zoom level - 50% Zoom level - 75% Zoom level - 100% Zoom level - You just put a tick in the box which setting you want to use in game.
      A little feedback on the Patreon: I would recommend to make it visible, that you have to pay Tax on top of the subscription. This would have been my first Patreon contribution, managed to convince myself to pay the €100 then on check out there was another €20 or €25 slapped on top of it.
      Long time Patreon users might know this already, but as a first time user, this was an annoying shock that made me not to pay. Yet.
      Looking forward to play the game at some point!

      Mad respect for all this, good idea as well to make it so expensive. If everyone gets the game now, a lot of people would be disappointed and spread bad news or just not play it again. Better to keep us hyped than to let us down. (Obviously there are some people like me and the RUclipsr here who's name I forgot who can accept the fact that this is pre pre pre alpha and they could afford it though, which sadly I can not lol)
      But anyways, keep up the good work!

    I commend the folks at Enhearten for undertaking this massive project. The subgenre needs a new, standalone entry, and Sanctuary looks like it's shaping up to be a fantastic product, faithful to its roots while innovating with destructible terrain, weather controls, and, at last for the TA family, real factional asymmetry. I couldn't really justify the cost of immediate entry, so thanks for covering it again and giving us a look!

    Have they mentioned any where if it will get a campaign? The lack of one is one of the reasons I never got into planetary annihilation.

      If irrc, the campaign would mbe a kickstarter goal or something similar. The devs are definitely planning on it, its just a matter of wheter the kickstarter will be succesfull enough

      a scripted version of the galactic conquest with lore and a couple of cutscenes would have done wonders for the experience. also legion (second faction mod) still can't be used in galactic conquest which is a shame. the lack of other factions really hurts that game for me.

    The fact that it seems to run well even in an early state is very encouraging. The #1 thing large scale RTS games need to nail is performance and that's not something you can just do at the end of the project. Really happy to see the devs seem to know that.

    To be fair, I think them holding off on doing a Kickstarter is actually respectable. Having backed some that have promised that they will deliever in 12 months to then be over 2 years late and counting it maintains a better reputation to hold off.
    This looks awesome!

    This looks great, I wish Gamesworkshop would allow a new 40k RTS to get made. I'd love to get one in this style, as I doubt if Dawn of War comes back itll move far away from a more Company of Heroes style.

    I saw their booth at PAX Australia last year. It was neat, they had an art book you could flip through which looked amazing. Was great to chat a little bit with the people running the booth. Sadly I'm not able to attend the con again this year but I hope they are there again and get even more attention. They definitely deserve it!

    Man, I want a modern SupCom sooooo bad. I don't often pay for unfinished products on principle (I'm still waiting on my last Kickstarter product that I backed over 2 years ago, with no delivery in sight). But when this is done, and if it's decent, I will buy multiple copies for friends and family!

    It's nice you clearly state it's not meant to be played because i can't stress enough how wrong i was to take part to Planetary Annihilation Alpha/beta. What a frustration .... it probably isn't the same for everyone, but to me it clearly generated a negative perception about the game, even when finished, obviously because i had too much frustration during alpha/beta. I will never do the same mistake. I prefer to play the game when it's done. When Supcom was announced, we only got the trailer, sometimes the game was shown but in a very scripted way, the visual being completly polished. The beta was nearly like playing the final game. And it all makes the difference.

    I just realized that even though I do like Total Annihilation inspired games, I'm pretty disappointed that all of them look the same, since generally setting and aesthetics have always been pretty important to me. Like why can't we have a swarm of bugs supported by a streaming economy, just anything slightly weird will do at this point
    edit: it can even still be robots, just experiment with the design a bit. Maybe steal ideas from Warframe, idk. Also there was that one game with a race of weird sentient things that have evolved in space from inorganic matter

    This game has made me want a feature in steam. I want to add personal notes/comments to games. Wishlist or owned.
    I put this game on my wishlist when I first heard about it. Then after a while I went through my wishlist and did a clean up, and removed it because I can't remember where I heard it from or why it sounded cool.

    Oh my, another C&C / total anihilation, supreme commander or whatever clone with some minimal twist and probably not enough smart improvements and quality of life changes.
    I just hate that it resolves to spam even more units, on an even bigger map, and we are still not getting some cool automations, commands for units and soo on.
    What I care for is the amount of not burdensome mechanics, which are useful. Not a scale of battles or map size or looks. This is why the era of old Relic Entertaiment games was best and too bad almost nobody try to expand on it...

      @@volodymyr_budii Most what was showed here, were units smashing together. Holes in the ground, where you can see a sun, is just a nice gimmick, which looks cool, but in practice it is just a not traversable terrain.
      I am just allergic to games like it after Planetary Anihilation and seeing another titles which just adds gimmicks and new units, which in practice do the same, without expanding on controll mechanics, production automations, target priorities, area monitoring for artylery units, spread out patrols and fight avoidence for recon units, being able to make your own blue prints for buildings positions, so you can build production or defensive, or resource outpost in just 2 clicks....
      Large scale needs large improvements to controls, units scripts for behavior without player attention and soo on. Not another gimmick with Dyson sphere.

      @@zbigniew2628 It's true that the game philosophy is to make the controls so good you can manage larger armies, so you spend more time on strategy and less time clicking. You might be interested to know more about our formations then, where you can select some units and drag a line across the map to have them spread out along that line. Then you can assist the formation with factories and any new units will join the ranks of units in the formation. We also want to put in future orders, where you can select units that dont even exist yet and tell them what to do when they are finished. There are plans for area commands and engineers that automatically salvage wrecks, and perhaps even the ability to mark 'no fly zones' on the map where your units will automatically avoid during their orders. You are right, we need to add more cool controls and that will come - it is early days!
      Terrain shattering is not just a gimmick, its new gameplay, you can turn an open field into two chokepoints, or you can shatter defensively to close the door to your own base. The freeze mechanic is opens up to new gameplay we havent seen before ... if you lose navy you will surely try and freeze the map, but they will know that so will defend the control structure, all before the big naval fight even ends! In the campaign you will have to freeze lakes to move across, but that will also freeze other lakes, allowing unknown units to approach you.

      @@sanctuaryshatteredsun Good to know, that some devs understand importance of improved mechanics, not only looks ;)
      I quess I am just angry after homeworld 3 release.
      I hope you can do something like unit types priority to atack and a zone of fire for artylery units, which should be like expandable circle with a hotkey to cancel all orders like it to avoid some units being in idle for too long... Also being able to do custome units behavior changes or at least changing its details would be cools e.g. within unit type priority to atack there should be the area of search for a target outside range, so your units aim at chosen target outside range, by getting closer, rather than shooting at whatever is closer.
      I just would love to see some smart AI commands e.g. for indirect fire like aim at stacionary targets or try to predict units movement and aim there, but then add command / formation to move not in a straight line... But here there are my general complains due to Company of heroes 3...

    Idk my dudes this looks too good to be true. Like I want to believe but daaaamn unless they hyper optimize it this will lag at high unit count even on NASA super computer. But then again Dyson Sphere Project devs pulled off the Dark Fog combat update so maybe these guys are just as beastly? I wishlisted but I'll believe it when I see it.

    @Zade - would love for you to take a look at Dyson Sphere Program. It is technically a factory building game, but takes cues from planetary annihilation. However at the start of thee year, they added a massive combat update to the game and frankly Industrial Annihilation feels like a rip off of what DSP has already released.

    i got burned on the game M.O.R.E. after this i havent backed any digital KS. not sure i can here either,. tho i loved total annihilation. the first one that we play alot of LAN with. ill watch this game for sure.

    7:51 no matter the stage of development you always should give as much feedback as you have positive or negative... as that is how my TT game now in beta came to be.... and it seems these devs are polish first which is extremely rare and hated dev style that most devs stay clear from... But they seem to be making it work though charging $200 a month for a demo like this isn't great as it should be free on "it" or even steam not locked away behind a paywall star citizen would not dear make.

      1)If you pay for Tier 5 patreon even once, you have the demo forever
      2)The reason for such huge cost is to have very few people play it. Devs do not want to open up the game for bug public yet, but if you REALLY want to try it and can't wait, there is an option.
      Public demo will be open and free when ready, which it isn't yet.

      Yeah feedback is very important, and negative feedback is even more important actually! The whole point is to make the game as best we can be and for that we want to know what is wrong with it :>
      I just wanted to clarify that the tier is 100 euros, and the benefit is a onetime purchase i.e. you keep the steam key if you cancel, and thats totally fine! We did it this way so we only get a couple of dozen testers to try out the game without us picking them, so we can be sure if the demo is going along the right track or not, but keeping numbers low. We figured that patreon was a good way to do this since we give people the chance to support the game at the same time, and all of our existing patreons were asking for the demo access, so this is how we are doing it : >
      We are planning on rolling out access wider and more affordably over time so this really is just a way for people who really want to throw money at us for some reason to get a chance to do so. Its definitely not for everyone and most people should wait - we are working hard on the game and will make it available wider when its ready for it!

    The units' movement is floatty, I found it hard to make it natrual, most of the supreme commander's mods didn't get it right.

    As a long-time fan of Supreme Commander, I feel like one of the only SupCom fans who is not excited by this game. I like the lore and story side of things, the campaings and memorable characters, and so far what we've got is... lackluster. Like, the world building is just... missing something.
    It doesn't help that I don't like most of the unit designs, especially the green UEF replacement.

      I am also a long time Supreme Commander fan. Been there since vanilla SupCom.
      Sanctuary hasn't convinced me so far. But I'll give it a chance for sure.
      A commander that can turn into an experimental with upgrades is something that sounds like a nice innovation.
      The terrain seems to need a lot of work though. Looks very bland to me.
      Explosions look good on the other hand.
      Unit design is a bit hit or miss to me so far. The Sanctuary Cybran faction looks good.

      1)It was said that with right upgrades and chassis change commander can be low-T4 strength level
      2)T5(End gamer) Titan units( like the one from Chosen seen in the trailer) require the usage of commander to be built or work.

      We haven't done any worldbuilding that you can see yet. The demo will land with a sample campaign mission that will do some of that - it's hard to jam heaps into one mission but we will try!

    Really looks quite a lot like SupComm, but is it a spring game? I thought i played most of the modern TA likes and spinoffs. I'm a fan of BAR myself, but I'd like to see a middle ground between this in BAR with more polish.

    I'm curious does the engine support multi-threading? The worst part about Supcom FA is that it has all the projectile simulations on one thread. How many threads have you seen it use?

      The game simulation is very likely deterministic and would therefor be single threaded. Physics, networking, sound, AI, graphics, these are things which can be offloaded because it's not so important that all players (or threads) agree on when exactly they happened. Synchronising large amounts of data between threads is often slower than just running a single thread and you run into edge case issues where the engine errors out because it loses sync, or player inputs aren't registered, or you see something happen and then it immediately undoes itself etc. I expect they'll find the nice compromise between performance and consistency.

      Hello t_rev, the sim and rendering parts of the code are completely multithreaded. What isn't is the "game" code. All game code runs on Lua as a mod. Even the vanilla game is a mod! We want modding support out of the box!

      Yes, we support multi-threading. When we started the project that was one of the our main goals ... to reduce different forms of latency: cpu latency like you are talking about and network latency. If you play the performance demo and look at your cpu core usage in task manager, you will see your cores get a workout.

    is it me or that in most strategy games, defensive turrets are too weak to take down enemies, 1 defensive turret should easily be able to take down multiple units , but in all rts games thats far from the truth, you defensive line is destroyed way too easily in a very small duration

      People love action, and defenses being too good at defending, together with reclaime mechanics would make attacking too hard and inefficient, which creates stale gameplay of who can just eco up better.

    I'm not a fan of these grand-scale RTS's. Most of the time you're so zoomed out that you're just looking at icons moving around a map. I much prefer the likes of Starcraft or Company of Heroes.

    So far the unit animations, and unit dead animations in Supreme Commander are still the best looking.The big spider dead animatons is so good to this day.
    Sanctuary so far have average looking unit animations.I want more robots , instead of tanks.

      We are trying to keep the game 'realistic' and the commanders are a reflection of that. Once we get commander chassis and upgrades they will get far more interesting, don't worry, these are the baseline commanders, and our plans for upgrades are much more substantial and visually different than in other games. The animations are in early stages (in fact everything is in early stages), they will get better!

    a game like this should cost at least 500 dollars...with loot boxes for 50...this is an amazing game and it deserves to cost a lot of money...people will find a way to pay for it...miss out on rent or a car payment and suck it up...they will be happy
    it should also be online only and require a really fast internet and the best pc money can buy to just play it...i think it would be amazing

    WTF... i just started re playing SUP COM FA a few weeks ago and find this. Oh yes please bring it. And FYI SupCom 2 was a POS dumbing everything down for casual users. Thats fine but make that a play mode while keeping the OG intact which they didn't but i digress. The mods are fantastic for FA so just stick w/ that.

    Tempting to support. Playing an RTS online nowadays just isn't fun though. People are too good, the fog of war makes whoever scouts and does the best rush win. I'd like to see no fog of war unless it's late game by destroying satellites. Because I play to build an army not counter a rush, not sure about everyone else. I probably just suck but if they can make playing online fun for all skill levels they've got something special

      I can't imagine such an RatS without fog of war - especially since the core feature of one of the factions here is stealth from radar, and trying to find out what your enemy is doing is the key element of "strategy".
      Though it down mean that this issue doesn't have other possible ways of fixing it.

One of which was my brother and I vs 1 person and we still got spanked. Maybe the main issue is playing vs the AI and story mode are waay different than playing a person

    200$ to bugtest a game(people used to be paid for it not the opposite), it just guaranteed that even if the game is not garbage, the monetisation will, lost all interest at the price tag, i know it will lower, but if they dare do this kind of shit already, this will only get more scummy.
    I know at least 3 free supcom like that do more than this, and look as good.
    ANd the "it's alpha so i wont complain" well you could complain about the balls they have to charge for this at least.Even bar dont charge you...

      This high cost was specifically set to have extremely low amount of people to gain access to pre-alpha. They didn't release out tier 5 patreon to make people have to pay for demo, they added demo to tier 5 patreon so you get something in case if you are t5 patreon, or give you an option to play the game if you literaly cannot wait and for some reason ready to spend over 100 dollars.
      In their discord server devs themselves said, that this option isn't meant for many people, and that if you can wait, you should wait until open demo with kickstar, but in case if you have no will to wait, or really want to support devs, option is right there. They stated that they don't plan/want to have over a dozen or 2 of people that can access it.

      I just wanted to confirm that its 100 euros for tier 5, and we did this partly because our existing patreon supporters were asking for demo access, so this is our way of giving it right now :> We honestly got more people than expected already for some reason! And yeah youre right it will lower because well personally for me 100 euros is too high for a game too! This is if someone really wants to throw money in our direction for some reason to help us out with the development costs. The demo is the most valuable thing we can give out, so thats what we are giving out for it!

      Unique abilities and chassis for commanders (Like EDA starter chassis is hover, Guard has 5 legs and will be able to move omnidirectionally, maybe even over some hills and slopes, Chosen comes with a shield by default).
      General features:
      Assist and assault drones that partially replace the game mechanic of tactical missiles and defenses against the. They can be launched from a special building/unit, and have to be shot down by special anti-drone weapons( though, it could always change)
      New 5th tier (though not really, T5 are expensive endgamers, and in supcom they were still labeled as experimentals/T4), that is gonna have only 2 units per faction - the sphere shatterer and Titan unit. Titan unit is basicaly super expensive unit that is supposed to end games, and for that reason, you need to put inside of it your commander during/after construction for it to work, so you either win with it, or die trying.
      For navy, I have heard something about some ships being able to break ice and still operate when everything is frozen.
      Aircraft carriers may be able to work as a land factory when frozen in ice
      Bridges over terrain, that could be destroyed and repaired, and units could move under them too.
      Huge collapsible buildings and city maps.
      Faction specific features:
      Chosen T3 assault bot will have 3 layers of shields that work independently
      Chosen T2 power generator can be directly upgraded to T3
      Chosen air transports were said to be able to drop units on move
      Chosen get land T3 scout, idk what it will be doing though.
      Chosen will get T4 mobile shield generators.
      Chosen will have assist drones that could in some way boost shields.
      EDA gets a T4 Harvester/Mobile factory with a giant shredder in front, that kills and reclaimes everything in its path
      EDA Units have second line of HP - armor, that can be cheaply repaired by special buildings/units. While all units comes with it from a factory by default, you can also put this armor on any building to give them additional HP.
      All EDA shields provide stealth to units under them.
      EDA air factory by default works as air staging building too.
      EDA gunships don't hover - they fly around their target in circle like AC-130. It isn't that important, but a neat feature.
      EDA gets a cluster nuke - in its final stage it splits into multiple weaker warheads to cover bigger area( Shooting it down requires same amount of charges as other nukes).
      For commander ability, EDA will get an EMP blast, no info on what other 2 factions get yet.
      EDA will have assist drones that could repair armor.
      Guard units get regeneration on all of their units. If they are i range of Transmitter( we know of a building, most likely be a mobile version too and different levels of strength of it), they get a boost to regeneration, vision and radar.
      Guard will get plenty of advanced intel tools and such, though, I have no specific info.
      Guard T2/T3 factories could produce multiple units of lover tier than the factory at the same time.
      Guard nuke is a strong lazer, that is reflected by 2 mirror satellites. When above the target, it starts out with small damage over huge area, but focuses down with time into a smaller point and melts everything here.
      Guard T3 battleship could submerge how Seraphim destroyer in supcom.
      These are all things I know so far, but there are definitely more to be added, since we saw barely anything from air yet, and almost nothing from navy.

      there is actually an interview somewhere where Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander creator says that one of the reasons SupCom 2 failed was because their publisher wanted a console release and they spent a lot of time figuring out controls instead of actually making the game

Anyone who plays console understands this; the control scheme can be basic. Hold A for area paint, tap for single unit, double tap for all of one type etc. The control scheme for SupCom2 wasn't bad, I liked it in all honesty I just wanted bigger armies and more space.

      2)Sanctuary is only 0.024 AU in radius. Living on the inside is impossible, and making a huge 1 AU sphere/ring is just really bad.
      Besides, Living on the inside defeats the main purpose of the Dyson Sphere, which is to gather energy. Every bit of space used to live on the inside is a waste of space that could have been filled with solar panels instead.

Not that I've done the maths, but it does feel like a bigger sphere where the inside surface has a narrow equatorial band being habitable areas, and all the rest being solar collectors would be a higher % of area collecting solar energy than a tiny sphere with a bunch of holes in it.
      The bigger problem is that what is in essence a hollow artificial planet with a 0.024 AU radius would have absurdly high gravity, even if it's just tinfoil thick. A traditional Dyson sphere would spin to give you centrifugal gravity in a thin band around the equator.
      Though I suppose if you have the material science to build a Dyson sphere at all, you could spin it fast enough that the gravity differential would end up around 1g. But that again only really works around the equator.

From scraps of lore we have so far, Sanctuary has no/almost no rotation, and to keep "afloat " it uses bunch of accelerator rings( or whatever name they have), which basicaly spin at orbit velocity and provide a "foundation", that the surface layer could push off of using magnets.
      But anyway, trying to perfectly explain a Dyson Sphere is futile. Solid Dyson Sphere could never work - no possible material has enough rigidity and strength to keep it all together, being it either a spinning Dyson Sphere or solid one. Dyson swarm is only realistic design.

      @@volodymyr_budii you're thinking of the inverse square law, and that's true if your solar panel is a fixed size. If however you completely surround a star, then you capture 100% of its output, regardless of how big the radius of your sphere is.
      The gravity of the sun, sure. But the Dyson sphere itself also has mass.
      But yes, no material we can even theoretically conceive of has the strength to make a solid Dyson sphere or ring world out of. And for a Dyson swarm, being closer to the star is beneficial, since it only covers a fraction of the arcs around the star. But if you're trying to live on Dyson swarm satellites, you don't have any gravity, you're just in orbit. You'd have to pair that concept with something like O'Niel cylinders to make it habitable. Or handwavy sci-fi artificial gravity I suppose, since you're collecting vast amounts of energy anyway.

    Will be interesting to see, how Sanctuary: Shattered Sun and Beyond All Reason will fare. So far, it seems Beyond All Reason is further along in the development.

      BAR and Sanctuary are quite different in gameplay from each other, so they shouldn't have high competition for playerbase between each other.
      BAR is much closer to TA, while Sanctuary is closer to supcom FAF, which works quite differently.

      It isn't out yet, it is still in pre-alpha. We will get public demo with kickstarter soonish this year and full release likely in 2025
