  • Minneapolis did most everything progressives wanted -- but the city still had racist cops, and violent riots after they killed George Floyd.

    ---
Minneapolis burned even though it adopted most every "progressive" idea: a $15 minimum wage, housing subsidies, mandatory paid leave, "green" targets, strong unions, and the most expensive school system in the state.
Did they at least reduce the racial income gap? Minneapolis’ black/white income disparity is about the biggest in the country.
That confuses the media. “Minneapolis had progressive policies, but its economy still left black families behind,” reads a headline in the Washington Post.
Instead of “but," the word should be: “therefore.”
Because as Minnesota Senate candidate Jason Lewis points out: "When you take away the incentive for work and savings and investment, you get less of it."
But Minneapolis politicians say they just need even more government. And even less free enterprise!
"Capitalism as we know it" must go!... says councilman Cam Gordon. In the video above, we debate.

      I’ve heard it said before:
Socialists don’t love the poor; they hate the rich. The poor just offer them a cloak of virtue with which to disguise their villainy.
‘For the greater good’ has always been the rallying cry of tyrants and the creed of thieves.

@@Nicholas_Terry It's two-fold actually. Socialists do care about the poor. They also hate the rich, or rather the incredible power that millions or billions of dollars grants a person. Our government is controlled by those people, and that's a huge threat to our democracy.
Socialists also want more control over their workplaces, but the norm is currently to agree to whatever conditions an employer demands so you can make enough money to get by. Where's my freedom to set my own destiny? Most people can't afford to start their own business. They're forced to work long hours without benefits to survive. The bourgeois who control these businesses are a part of that problem.

That argument is a canned response and the only 2 things you are correct about are the fact that the evil people are in power and that socialists hate the rich.
Socialists actions speak louder than their words. They can _say_ they love the poor until they’re blue in the face, but I have yet to meet one who will give up their wealth to a charity or volunteer their time to a shelter.
Socialists may _say_ they care, and are happy to give up other peoples’ money and time, but they will refuse to do it themselves. They’ll put their ‘virtue’ on display for the whole world and think that they are doing good, while they simultaneously turn their noses up at the idea of actually contributing to solving our problems.
They are hypocrites of the highest degree and socialism is the most evil idea that has ever existed, with a body count in the hundreds of millions and counting.

You have NEVER needed to start out with a lot of money to be successful. As a financial planner, I know plumbers, electricians and auto mechanics that slowly built up their business and became extremely wealthy. Nobody GAVE them anything. They EARNED their huge homes and their motorhomes and their boats. And with the technology we have today, it is easier than ever to be successful. Stop whining and learn something.

@@johnnynick3621 I was only trying to describe what socialists believe. Only some of my last comment was my own opinion. I hope you'll respect that my views have changed somewhat since last year.
My first problem is that the ultra wealthy have incredible power over me and the society I live it. If you have that kind of power in society, you should be elected. Anything else is unjust. Me learning a skill and starting my own business doesn't alleviate this problem at all.
The second problem is with regard worker-owner relations. People need to work to survive. Not everyone can be a business owner. There will always be people who are at the mercy of the people who control their workplaces. Unless they're in a good, non-corrupt union, they have no ability to bargain. If they don't like how they're treated, the only thing they can do is try to find another job. Eventually, they can work toward being a business owner themselves, but it doesn't make the exploitation they experience in the meantime justified.
I'd also like to say, this isn't about me. My pay is good, I have good skills, and the most exploitation I've experienced has been from a sketchy landlord I had for a year. I just want a better world. You can call that whining if you'd like, I guess.

I saw a cost of living graph. Said $33 an hour in California is same as making $13 an HR in Arkansas. So if you make less than $33 an hour in California you be better off getting a trailer in Arkansas and flipping burgers for min wage there.

Just curious alaska minimum wage is $10.50 or so no higher than 11$ but the cheapest housing is at least 1000$ the cheapest steak is 15$ for one the oil companies claim to spend billions on our economy yet there’s twenty craxkheads outside sleeping in the ditch ? Yet our minimum is $10.50

    • @SgtJoeSmith
      @SgtJoeSmith 3 года назад +3

@@gavinc2827 a lot of criminals go to Alaska to hide I know. The cost of getting food and supplies to Alaska is much greater causing higher costs. And probably not many companies want to have their home office in Alaska cause they fear they won't get enough qualified employees worth the pay cause no one wants to move there. I know the airport there is a big shipping transfer hub with Asia. And steak here in Arkansas is that much and 1 bed appts start at $500 but got a year wait list. Average 2 bed appt is $800. So Alaska despite the higher costs of getting stuff there is still on par with half the country as far as cost of living. As far as the crack heads in ditch. Some people hate money and hate nice things. They figure they can't take it with when they die so why bother working and buying it now. Lot of people here like that.

This simply isn't how reality works. Worth looking at is the Hawks and Doves studies. They prove that crime can never be eliminated, only minimized. accidents cannot be eliminated, only minimized. inequality cannot be eliminated, only minimized. So if want a job, the government should provide you one or mandate that somebody else gives you one - at what you consider a "livable wage", period. Doesn't matter if you have the skills, or the attitude or you miss work too often, or you just can't produce enough value to justify the wages so a company would lose money on you - you have an inviolable human right to a well paying job (but only if you want it, nobody should be required to work in order to get by - food, shelter, medical care, education, and soon high speed internet are also human rights of course, whether or not you decide to work for them).
