- The former owners of a home on Vancouver's west side have continued living in it despite selling it for nearly $4 million last June. Last week, they won a court case that will prevent the new owners from evicting them for at least a little while longer.

What a nightmare for the buyers. Sellers clearly have zero class.
You forgot, the buyer withheld $100k from the seller…
@@wc4109 yes that they would get once they moved out. Those were the terms of the PSA, along with how long they could stay.
The legal system is Canada is a very expensive and not funny joke.
Try the states lol
Lol idiots rented the house they bought to the sellers...stupid move.
What’s ridiculous is $3.9 million for that
That is messed up. Squatting after you sell. Actually a smart move but definitely a evil loophole
Buyers held back $100k so the sellers are refusing to move
A rental agreement is not squatting, does your brain even function?
@@theehans the agreement has expired
@@Observer168 the buyers held back $100 000 out of the purchase price so they didnt pay for the house and broke the sales agreement .
Your clients are squatters. Move out and then get your 100k back. Christ.
Canadian justice system is a joke. Go reclaim your home by force. Worse case scenario, you’ll do 2 weeks in jail.
So we have rich squatters now. No sympathy for the sellers. They are 100% taking advantage of the buyers and BC’s joke of a residential tenancy board. Hope the purchasers get lots of money in damages from them.
Squatters rights are human rights in a liberal democracy Canada.
The buyer still owes them 100k. They won’t move out unless it’s released
The owner signed the contract for them to stay, legally it's still their right to stay.
@@theehans they are staying past the date on the contract
@@Observer168 they havent been paid for the house , they are still owed $100 000 , the buyer did not pay the agreed upon price . .
Brilliant! This is the new way to survive high cost of living in Canada. If you are smart, the Canadian government has created ways for you to live rent free.
Resell it. Or pay the local leg breakers a couple k
Hire a soprano
It’s not clear who’s right or wrong here… Some said the sellers are squatting, but the buyer kept $100k of the sale price… Now if the buyer agree to pay the remaining $100k (minus rent), would the seller agree to leave? Then we’ll know better…
3,8 milion for that wow what a joke
3.9
I live in Vancouver. You're either stinking rich or rent poor. Guess which one I am.
Tenant / Landlord rights need to change.
Scammers! Especially the Sellers Attorney!
The new owners should have given the seller their 100,000 back and it would be done.. Ignoring the request didn’t serve them..
I think the attorney said sellers weren't paying rent, that is why the buyers are refusing to give back the 100k. Either way, sellers are the scammer.
Real estate agents and lawyers should of never given the bulk until they moved out.
They did deal without lawyers. Maybe no reel estate agent either.
Wow talk about getting screwed
What a nightmare.
Fluck that you'd be gone from my home that I bought and paid for that you sold I'd make living there a living hell
They are no longer sellers, they are squatters.
They dont owe them the $100k, that money was part of the purchase amount. There are many legal ways to get them out!
Thats insane! They got their $3.9 million and they are living there. Than i would charge them market rent!!!
Sellers and buyers are in a Mexican standoff and the lawyers plus realtors get richer 🎉What a wonderful world.
Why didn’t the ‘offer to sell’ hold the sellers accountable?
Joke of a legal system and joke of a lawyer representing the sellers dude should be embarrassed of his craft.
The solution is in the contract, possession to be at close of escrow or latest 3 days after settlement.
Well, that escalated quickly
So I'm guessing that if the same thing happened to the seller's attorney he would be okay with it ? what a joke !
Give back the $100k. Can't blame the sellers
At what point do the buyers acknowledge the role they played in the tomfoolery. This is the fault of the buyers b/c when the sellers requested to remain in the home beyond the closing date (Which is NOT uncommon), it became a landlord/tenant a matter, all of this could have been avoided had they specified the
terms in writing.(Surprised their realtor did not suggest that).
3.9 for that WOW 🤦♂
Landlord tenant issue…..I think not….nobody will buy a house with this crap going on!!!
That is certainly an underhanded move
May the squatters be repaid in kind
Charge homesellers more money
Both are being cheap in these cases. LOL. One side sold the house and the other side bought the house for 3.8M, meaning they aren't lack of money.
What a gong show!
Is the seller Trudeau?
They can’t afford rent in Vancouver 🤣🤣
This isn't anything new. Renters/Tenants have full rights to their legal place of residents.
Both parties are rich. I’ll concede the sellers are rich trash. But anyway this story incites zero empathy in me.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Real estate investing is risky business.
what a nightmare
Seller is a crook, buyer a bleeding heart, u get what u pay for.😆
How have the lawyers helped in any way?
That's crazy
I wonder who are those rich squatters. Anyone knows?
wonder what nationalities are they from
Wow, easy money huh...
Homeowners taking advantage of sellers, who takes advantage of buyers, whose the previous are now squatters? Thats too funny!! 😂
hahaha how dumb do you have to be to side with the old couple (buyers) from penticton. They kept 100k as damage deposit and never gave it back now they have squatters to deal with and will probably eventually have to return the 100k. who the hell keeps 100k as damage deposit and doesn’t return it. no surprise they made some enemies. should have returned the money
Yup, pay what’s owed
You realize that a damage deposit is for... damage? How are the buyers supposed to assess if there are damages to deduct from unless the sellers move out as agreed? It's exactly like how any rental works anywhere; you do a walk-through after the tenant (seller in this case) has moved out.
@@philisdaman99 You realize there’s limits for damage deposit right? It’s equivalent to half a months rent no matter the size of the property. Keeping 100k for damage is ridiculous. The buyers probably kept such a large amount of money hostage in order to deter them from squatting but the sellers are probably worried they might have to sue and attempt to collect if they leave. These lawyers are a bunch of jerk offs who are just wasting time and collecting legal fees. the 100k should be placed in escrow with a neutral third party such as an escrow company or lawyer and paid to the original sellers once they move out on an agreed upon date.
@@philisdaman99yes, a damage deposit is normally half months rent. Keeping 100k is ridiculous
@@prabjotplays it's not a rental agreement that was signed; it was a purchase of a property and the limit you refer to does not apply on a property transaction. In situations like this where the possession is a long ways out, it is not uncommon for these amounts to be large because you don't know if something major will fail that far out like a boiler or a roof or something significant.
I suspect there is more to this transaction than reported as these types of deposits are usually kept in trust by a notary. That being said, the sellers have to move out if they ever want that money released and they didn't do so... that is on them.
The most likely scenario at the moment is that the sellers have seen an opportunity to live rent/mortgage-free and are taking advantage of it.
Homeowners taking advantage of home buyers, who takes advantage of sellers who are now squatters? That's too funny! 😂
Buyer still owes them 100k that was held back
Well ... that is messed up both millionaires just won't settle lol.
Sick
hahahahaha im going to keep doing this when i rent...ill just refuse to pay always
scammer
Bet the sellers last name is Singh...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Criminal this is sickening
Pay the 100,000$ deposit back, simple
