Sonic and The Hedgehogs but Sonic Lost his Sneakers

  • I have updated Sonic and The Hedgehogs.
    The latest version can be found on this link:

    The latest update includes the following:
    FIXES:
    - Fix the Animation glitch that would occur when quickstepping while running backwards.
    - Fix Ragdoll not stopping when not moving.
    - Fix SuperRing Monitors.
    - Fix Bonking.
    - Fix Bouncing on Foes interaction.
    - Bounce Impact Sound will now play more reliably.
    - Fire now has sound.
    - Daynight cycle lighting fixed.
    NEW:
    - The Rate that the Style Gauge depletes now depends on how many thresholds it has passed.
    - New Sounds will play to indicate when the Style Gauge has crossed over specific thresholds.
    - Sonic will now flash red when the Style Gauge has been filled to 300%.
    - Getting defeated without continuing now makes Sonic Lose his Shoes, thereby making him unable to build up his Style Gauge.
    - Performing Air Tricks without wearing shoes will instead play the laughing Eggman Spring Sound.
    - Added Objectives to Wuhu Island.
    - Implement NPC Dialogue Interaction that can trigger Objectives and one that allows Sonic to Buy Shoes.
    - Sonic can now more reliably air dash after mid-air attacks.
    - Implement Secret Double Jump.
    - SpindashLaunching foes no longer inflict damage.
    - Bounce height off foes and breakables is now determined by the number of times a Bounce Attack has happened recently.

      Yeah, no - I won't be modelling Sonic's bare feet in any future update.

      @@evilbritishguy3581 Thankfully. But canonically the Sonic characters have no toes whatsoever(Example:Big The Cat)

    This mechanic seems... incredibly punishing, in my opinion. Slip up and die once, without the ability to continue? Good luck getting back to normal.
    Also, I don't particularly like the red flashing at maximum gauge. It works for Metal Sonic, but regular Sonic? Nope. Maybe a lighter, cooler blue would work better.

      I should probably clarify - if you choose to continue, you can resume play immediately without losing the shoes but doing so will make Sonic lose a life.
      Only if the player chooses not to continue or is unable to because they have no lives left will Sonic wake up without his shoes.
      While I agree this mechanic does feel punishing, I like to think it also lets me raise the stakes by establishing a slightly more severe consequence for failure than simply letting the player respawn.
      As for Sonic flashing red, I may add an option to enable/disable it. The idea there is that it's looking to invoke the same effect that was applied to Sonic in Sonic Rush at Max Gauge.

      @@evilbritishguy3581 Let me list off the issues I experienced.
      I had to manually set the camera's sensitivity to even move it, changing the FoV actually just split the camera in two, the manner in which the spindash is activated makes it hard to chain it into a wallrun, the tutorial doesn't do a particularly good job of teaching the player anything, the title screen music and sound effects are unaffected by the relevant settings (which, mind you, are sliders with their valid points set to incredibly strange values), and I somehow managed to simultaneously accidentally activate some sort of developer freecam mode while also teleporting Sonic to an unknown location where I couldn't move around at all.
      And that was all within about 5 minutes.

      "I had to manually set the camera's sensitivity to even move it" - my best guess is that when the game in installed on a fresh machine, the player prefs default the camera sensitivity to 0. Looking to fix this in a future Update.
      "Changing the FOV actually splits the camera in two" - the 'Depth' slider is responsible for enabling a split screen steroscopic camera but this underneath the FOV slider. I suspect this may have been activated by mistake.
      "spindash is difficult to chain into a wall run" - The Best way to achieve a wall run is to ensure the run button is held while colliding with a wall in mid-air. So, immediately after releasing the run button to make Sonic Spindash, Hold the Run button again and this should ensure you can better chain the spindash into a wall run. Takes practice but is definitely doable.
      "the tutorial doesn't do a particular good job of teaching the player anything" - the tutorial level contains a series of onscreen button prompts and subtitled voiceover that tell you what to press in order to progress through the tutorial. Optional Question Marks can be activated to also explain additional optional mechanics. This comment may require some elaboration in order to be properly addressed.
      "the title screen music and sound effects are unaffected by the relevant settings (which, mind you, are sliders with their valid points set to incredibly strange values)" - I'll need to investigate further and see if this can be fixed in a future update.
      "I somehow managed to simultaneously accidentally activate some sort of developer freecam mode while also teleporting Sonic to an unknown location where I couldn't move around at all." - I suspect what happened was the replay system had been activated accidentally where you can pause, record, rewind or fast forward a recording of Sonic. I'll add an option to menu so only when the replay system is enabled by the player will they be able to use it deliberately.
