This video was shot in the heart of the Thar desert, in the ancient town of Jaisalmer inside the Artists Colony (KALAKAR Colony neighbohood).
We invite you to walk with us in a journey to see the musician's homes close and watch their never-ending creativity and musical talent that is passed on from father to children for hundreds of years. This colony houses traditional musicians and story tellers that settle in Jaisalmer after a former nomadic life.Those were nomadic musicians settled in the artist colony (kalakar in Rajasthani ) after modernity caught up with their life-style.
The very old tradition of Rajasthani Folk Music and story telling was not only for entertainment, but their mission was also to spread the news and educate in the vast knowledge that was necessary to survive in the very difficult environment of the Thar desert. In modern times there is a great danger of this culture to vanish. We hope with our videos to encourage more people to hire them to perform to help them cope with modern times and survive as artists musicians.
