- 🇬🇧 What’s it like going to a metal detecting rally in the UK? 🤔 Well, I found out this weekend at Rodney Cook Memorial rally 2024, on land occupied by ancient people from Neolithic through Bronze Age, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval history. It was my first ‘weekender’ and I had a blast!
What a pleasure to meet a number of you subscribers there (thank you for the welcome!)
I also finally met (in person) some of the online detectorist personalities and characters that I’ve been getting to know this past 18 months since I took up metal detecting. Including @DiggerDanMetalDetecting who’s vids on RUclips initially inspired me to start out as a beginner detectorist.
What a great bunch of people you all are! Thanks to all of you who showed me your wonderful historical finds.
Hope you enjoy coming along to the rally in this little video 😊 and look forward to meeting more of you at Detectival where I’ll be attending as part of Team LP Metal Detecting next weekend!
IN THE COMMENTS: What other rallies should I be looking at? Let me know the best ones around the UK (or… overseas!)

A bit about me:
Not your average bloke in camo..
Hello! I’m Ellie, English female detectorist, beachcomber, mudlark and artist. 🇬🇧 Follow my searching journey metal detecting the UK countryside and shoreline, as I learn about British history through objects.
Have I found any treasure? Well - in my first year of detecting I have collected Roman artefacts, old gold, hammered coins and medieval finds. But the REAL treasure is in the stories each object tells about people and places. Sometimes it’s the mystery objects that I love best - cracking the code of time with plenty of help from my team of trusty subscribers!
Miss D.
Lovely video, you captured the essence of RCM perfectly. I was glad to be in the Sassy's photo.
My wife is a member of the sassy searcher's, a brilliant friendly helpful group of ladies.👍
That kids 1828 George IV half sovereign coin is an amazing find and will fetch a hefty price in that near mint condition.
Great video Ellie, so many happy detectorists and all for a brilliant cause, hope you had a wonderful time 😁
Thank you I did 😊😊
Glad you found a girl to go around with as its better with company. Looks like you had a really good time and thanks for sharing it with us. Keep gpong Ellie.

@@miss_detectorist That would be great slightly more than a hop unfortunately as i live right in the south. I will have to find out what the regulations are about taking a detecteur on a plane But will def come back

Looks a brilliant adventure ill have to get my self to one of these digs🎉🎉❤
Definitely - I went there alone but ended up with new friends! Can’t knock that can you.
Hi from Australia Ellie! Just found your channel and subscribed straight away! So few of us female detectorists! Loved your video! Looking forward to more of your adventures!
Hooray! So glad you found my channel, welcome!
I know it had to be so much fun. And to meet the folks you watch.
And you're right Miss Ellie. Have fun. Because although we might live long lives things slow down eventually. Hugs. Looking forward to your many finds.
Thanks Don - it’s great to be reminded to grab life and enjoy!
It looked like a well attended event. I hope that you took advantage of the detectors who were using the same detector as you were, and compaired the settings that they use.
Yes lots of chats but tbh many people were struggling for signals this weekend!
You are just so sweet Ellie so happy you are having a great time. Wish you all the best luck in your searching
Thank you! 😊
Love your videos!
That is very kind thank you for watching them!
RUclips famous 😎 You were my find of the weekend Ellie! ❤

Brilliant weekend for you dear, and it didn't even rain, nice finds also, thank you for posting this nice video.🙂
It didn’t rain 😂 but I think it could have done with a little sprinkle 😊
So pleased but never doubted it that you would have a fantastic time. Hope to bump into you at Detectival. Safe journey from SW. 😊
Can you confirm i was the first official recipient of the Miss Detectorist cargo strap and engraved disc 😁 nice to meet you on friday morning.
I can confirm that apart from the one I have on my car keys, you are the first recipient of the Miss D special gift! Thank you so much for coming to say hello 😊 hope you had a great time!!
@miss_detectorist 😆 thanks, it's now attached to my chest harness, I didn't find much all weekend either but nice to be out swinging with like minded people, enjoy detectival and good luck 👍
I didnt see you there but me and 3 others from LP was there also me, tidy and the dark knight. I was hanging out with the duke's of Derbyshire, the southern sercher, Suffolk searcher and ben shires it was a great weekend and i certainly made a few firends as well hope to see you at detectival
Glad you had a great time! - replenishing energy for the next one now!
@@miss_detectorist yeah hopefully looks liek you had a great weekend and i feel like its more about the people than the digging as well
I really struggled for finds all weekend but tbh enjoyed it so much anyway
Me too really strange how few signals - I can’t help but think the dryness of the cultivated ground combined with so many other detectors nearby? I don’t know the land should be full of stuff! Glad you had fun though!
@@miss_detectorist yea was very dry I bet if you went back after the winter when the ground is wet it would be alive with finds
Thank you for showing this lovely video of the Rcm rally Ellie
I’m glad to share it with anyone who’d like to see 😊
Haha, just seen myself in the background at 1:05 just before the guy & his son with the gold coin. I'd of happily spoken to you if I'd seen you. 👍
Hello! I hope you had a wonderful time at the event! 😊
@miss_detectorist Hi Ellie, I certainly did. It was my 3rd RCM Rally so it was great to meet up with friends from all over and make new aquaintances with our campsite neighbours. Hope you enjoyed it.
Enjoy your videos. My wife in I metal detect in the USA. We were on a British Isles cruise in July. We toured a lot of the English countryside, its beautiful. We kept saying, I wish we had our detectors. Keep up the good work.
What a lovely trip! Next time be sure to bring your kit and join a dig! I follow the history digger on insta - he just made a trip to the U.K. for detecting and found some fabulous things!
Thanks for vid
Looks like you had a great time !
Hi Ellie, it looked so much fun, glad you had a blast and met some lovely people! As you said about Dan being someone you learnt from about the hobbie and got you into detecting, you are the one who gave me the confidence to start, I can't stop now 😂 ❤
That makes me smile, I’m so happy you’re enjoying it!
Great times. Would love to attend eventually. Thanks for sharing!!!
@@relicrat thank you for watching 😊
I'm going to Gary's RCM no frills weekender next month and looking forward to it.Well done to Beth for her 17 th C silver thimble.Glad you enjoyed your weekend detecting experience, looking forward to your next outing.
17th century wow! Thanks Edward for the ID! Enjoy the no frills weekender, I must say I was tempted to go to it too!
Let’s goooooo Ellie 💥💥💥💥 yep yep yep 🤩🤩🇬🇧🇺🇸
Great little video, thanks for sharing you experience at RCM. Just a little info on the button, most,if not all buttons, with what looks like a straight line of rope under the family crest are livery buttons, so easy to distinguish between them and military types. Just an easy way to remember. Good luck searching,🤗👍
Aha! That’s a great little rule. Next question - is that a rope?!
@@miss_detectorist There is a proper name for it but it escapes me at the minute, I’ll see if I can find it and get back to you, if you find it meantime, let me know.🤔😊
🥳 shame I didn't bump into you love your energy cu at detectival maybe👍🥳🏴🏴🍻
For sure!
Very worthwhile event and looks like they bend over backwards to make it welcoming and enjoyable 👍🇨🇦
They really did - very impressive set up 😊
Well done Ellie, lots of people said not a lot found, I was a bit sceptical on their comments though, hopefully bump into you next weekend at Detectival 🤞 love you videos 😊
Yes really hope to meet you at Detectival! It was a tough gig for finds - but there were a few great things to see, and everyone was very keen to share what they’d found which I always really enjoy as I learn so much chatting with people.
Lovely to see you had so much fun. I think the dry weather and cultivated land is a challenging combination for getting clear signals - I’ve had similar experiences this month.
I think you’re so right! One dear old detectorist (who found the Henry VIII groat) said in these conditions it’s really important to slowwwwww right down to catch the signals
@@miss_detectorist so hard to do that though when you see people plucking such amazing finds! The FOMO is real!!
Nice to see you had fun Ellie 😊
Such fun! Thanks for watching 😊
Good video
@@lancemcilwainoutcastmetald5398 thanks glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to make it to RCM or Detectival one of these days.
Do it! Such a great experience.
I will see you, next week. Traveling from Norway. So some new faces.
I look forward to it! Do come and say hello!
Safe travels
Great fun video. Maybe see you at Detectival!
I’ll be there!
Great video thank you for sharing. It looks like thousands of people there did you not get under one? Another feet?
No - there were so many fields! Loads of space (too much if anything!)
Did you see the Scottish detectorist?
Great video 👍
I didn’t no! Was he there too?
@@miss_detectorist yes he was there with the Spanish detectorist and one other 👍
never take yor find and walk away" always rescan after find out. crack on great stuff. yor day will come.
@@gobstoppa1633 I usually do, happened today actually! Found a WW2 cap badge, then boom straight again in the same spot, 1703 French silver coin!
Hello. A first.👊🏻😉
Wish could have gone but only seem to find out about them after tickets are sold out
There are still tickets to the RCM no frills weekender in October. In any case I’d recommend signing up to their online mailing list, that way next year you’ll get good warning of ticket release!
@@miss_detectorist sold out last i looked.

Schamberger Lodge
Blimmin hard work wasn’t it!?!
It really was! The sheer scale of the site combined with dry conditions - weird lack of signals - BUT I did see some great finds (from others!) and I made wonderful fun new friends. Would I do it all again? Yes absolutely! Loved it.
@@miss_detectorist hi Ellie 👋
We are the same and the social side of things is what makes a fantastic weekend even better.
See you at Detectorvil
