Did you watch Oppenheimer's interview before this? They did an awesome job with the sound effects. There's a lot of attention to detail with this one. You can see the mushroom cloud in Oppenheimer's eyes when he said "I got that fissile material." The "split U like 2 and 3 from 5" is a major bar! U235 was the Uranium isotope used to cause the chain reaction in the atomic bomb. Split you like 2+3=5 is obvious. In the comics Thanos was obsessed with the personification of death (Lady Death). She didn't want any of that. He did the snap to win her favor. She "swiped left" on him & wanted Deadpool. Lol Nearly every line was a reference. Glad you finally watched it!

The interesting thing between these two is that Oppenheimer is famous for quoting the Hindu scripture with the line “Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of worlds.” Oppenheimer is a real guy who created a devastating weapon meant to cause death, and viewed himself with regret ad a metaphorical destroyer of worlds. Meanwhile, Thanos is a fictional character who was legitimately in love with Death, and used a devastating weapon to become a literal destroyer of worlds. So, a fake guy who really did it in his fake world, and a real guy who was afraid he’d metaphorically done it in the real world. These two were meant to be enemies, so they were perfect to oppose one another in this rap battle.

The fragment that struck Brandon would most likely have been noticed missing from the dummy rounds that made the gun look loaded on camera when they were swapped with blanks to fire it. This is my favorite of their works. I wasn't sure how they were going to handle Oppenheimer because he's such a quiet and reserved person when he speaks in the recordings we have of him. The famous recordings of Oppenheimer are all after the creation of the atomic bomb when he was haunted by the sheer scale of death he had enabled. They really blew me away with it, though, starting from that haunted man and giving such a strong twist on his famous "I am become death" reference.
Thanos started strong, but this quickly became one sided. Not as badly as Shakespear vs Dr. Seuss or Miley Cirus vs Joan of Ark, thankfully, but there was no coming back for Thanos. I would have liked to have seen the Thanos Copter be used against him rather than such a weak line from himself, but they really had to include it somehow.

Split you like 2 and 3 from 5 is an absolutely insane line.
Oppenheimer is the father of the atom bomb. The first bombs they created were fission bombs, which split atoms, releasing an extreme amount of energy. The type of atoms they split were Uranium 235. When he says he'll split you like 2 and 3 from 5, he is referencing splitting the atom, the isotope used (235), and even noting that 2 and 3 add up to 5. So the math of splitting 5 into 2 and 3 works out. This is one of the most clever lines ever.

Watching just the short "I am become death..." interview clip ahead of time as recommended in the comments, and then watching this; sells the diligence and dedication that was brought to this ERB. You mentioned the look in NicePeter's eyes at the beginning of the Oppenheimer verse, there's a reason for that. If you look at what pictures exist of him in the early 30s, you'll see a man with life behind his eyes. Then if you look at him in any pictures after the end of the war, he's got that 1000 yard stare, and he keeps it from 45 till his death in 67. Man spent 22 years haunted by the fact that he was directly responsible for the slaughter of 226k people, most of whom were civilians, in (talking instantly in Hiroshima and Nagasaki) literal seconds. I'd probably have some severe PTSD after that.

J did them late last week. He's falling down the ERB rabbit hole _hard_ and says he's looking to do all of 'em!

Thanos had a few jabs in there but Oppenheimer was dropping bars like atom bombs. Plus the efforts they put into perfecting the haunted look, mimicking the sound of the interview recording, mushroom cloud in the eyes. Oppenheimer is the winner hands down

If you have time check out the movie "Fat man and Little Boy" about the making of the first atomic bombs.

Thanos had a couple burns, but Oppenheimer went... Nuclear. (also that Fortnite line was a hilarious self-own)

Hated Thano's beat, and his bars are kinda weak.
Opp went for the throat time after time.
It does help if you know more of Oppenheimer's story but still... the iron man and butt chin had already nailed Thanos to the floor. Everything else Opp said was just there to rip parts off a dead body.
And seriously, that voice for Thanos might be the worst ERB ever did.... and Opp, they nailed.
Story is, Oppenheimer saw the test of the first atomic bomb and quotes the Hindu God Shiva (the Destroyer) "I have become Death. The destroyer of worlds."
It gets argued if he said that, but his hatred and guilt over the atomic bomb are legendary...

He recalled it in an interview, I don't think he actually said it during the test, IIRC he said, "I was reminded of the passage from the Bhagavad Gita..."
If you watch HISHE than you'll know both Thor and Thanos were incorrect...he should have gone for the arm...

Oppenheimer easily nuked the Mad Titan in this battle; especially in how NicePeter based his performance on film footage of the physicist reading that line of the Hindu holy book the Bhagavad Gita "Now I am become Death, Destroyer of Worlds". I suggest you watch "Robert Oppenheimer Reflects On The Trinity Atom Bomb Test" some time on RUclips, it's really haunting; he looks like he's just dead inside knowing what he has created.

This one was just too brutal for him to condone.
