Did you watch Oppenheimer's interview before this? They did an awesome job with the sound effects. There's a lot of attention to detail with this one. You can see the mushroom cloud in Oppenheimer's eyes when he said "I got that fissile material." The "split U like 2 and 3 from 5" is a major bar! U235 was the Uranium isotope used to cause the chain reaction in the atomic bomb. Split you like 2+3=5 is obvious. In the comics Thanos was obsessed with the personification of death (Lady Death). She didn't want any of that. He did the snap to win her favor. She "swiped left" on him & wanted Deadpool. Lol Nearly every line was a reference. Glad you finally watched it!
Hell, that split second shot after that “Terran who never learned to love his bomb.” Line. You can see the dispare in his expression and that little pipe shake.
The interesting thing between these two is that Oppenheimer is famous for quoting the Hindu scripture with the line “Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of worlds.” Oppenheimer is a real guy who created a devastating weapon meant to cause death, and viewed himself with regret ad a metaphorical destroyer of worlds. Meanwhile, Thanos is a fictional character who was legitimately in love with Death, and used a devastating weapon to become a literal destroyer of worlds. So, a fake guy who really did it in his fake world, and a real guy who was afraid he’d metaphorically done it in the real world. These two were meant to be enemies, so they were perfect to oppose one another in this rap battle.
I'm a fan of Thanos from way back when he and Gamora used to run around with Adam Warlock and Pip the troll. So I love the comic book references. I still give it to Oppenheimer. Savage bars + great delivery wins every time.
I think the bigger of a comic book fan you are, the worse thanos' loss becomes. Those were some DEEP cuts he was taking and they only got worse for those of us who got the references.
JAJ: Oppenheimer was the leader of the scientists who developed the A- Bomb . His look isn't tired; it's guilt over the A-bomb's destructive force. J.Robert Oppenhiemer by a nuke-slide!
I think he would eventually lose his status when he refused to help develop an H (Hydrogen) Bomb. If you get a chance look at what that thing did. It made the A Bomb look like a cheap firecracker.

Even though Thanos is one of my least favorite performances, this is my favorite ERB.. all because of Oppenheimer. Everything about his set is epic. The beat, the flow, the bombs, the visuals, the brilliant performance. This is power on another level.
This is my favorite of their works. I wasn't sure how they were going to handle Oppenheimer because he's such a quiet and reserved person when he speaks in the recordings we have of him. The famous recordings of Oppenheimer are all after the creation of the atomic bomb when he was haunted by the sheer scale of death he had enabled. They really blew me away with it, though, starting from that haunted man and giving such a strong twist on his famous "I am become death" reference. Thanos started strong, but this quickly became one sided. Not as badly as Shakespear vs Dr. Seuss or Miley Cirus vs Joan of Ark, thankfully, but there was no coming back for Thanos. I would have liked to have seen the Thanos Copter be used against him rather than such a weak line from himself, but they really had to include it somehow.
