Very clear explanation. Thank you from a leather-booter.

I have a well used pair of Black Diamond Seeker boots that are coming near the end of their life. I am excited at the idea of updating my setup to Scarpa TX pro or Crispi Evo boots but living in Edmonton, Alberta I cant try any on. I have low volume feet with high arches and a narrow heel. I do more backcountry skiing than resort (usually just with my kids) and ski at an intermediate tele level but am starting to charge harder on fatter skis, hence why curious about upgrading from 3 buckle Seekers to a 4 buckle boot. Also I read the Crispi baffle is stiff - better for hard icy Eastern skiing vs Rockies & Roger's pass powder? Do you know how Crispi boots fit vs Scarpa?

I am coming from the new maestrale XT boot. I ha e never telemarked, but I am 6'1" 200-210lb heavy charging skier.
Which boot would be better for me? The tech inserts won't matter as I plan on buying the scarpa ntn freeride binding.
I want to highlight that I have never telemarked in what decision you think I should make.
    Thank you for the video

How do the Scarpas compare to the BD Pushes in terms of stiffness?

Would love to see an NTN offering from Scarpa that is more closely related to a T2/T3. The TX Pro is pretty nice however

TheCaptainA lower cuff and softer then?

@@FreeheelLife My wish list in this order, for a more tour focused boot would be:
      1) Lighter
      2) Softer
      3) Lower cuff (or even keep the cuff higher but really let it pivot easily in walk/tour mode)
... when compared to the TX Pro.
Hoping you guys will do an on snow Lynx review!

Yes, no tech toe inserts is a pretty big 'unfortunately' when it comes to the TX Comps! I'm a big fan of the Outlaw X, and I don't even own tech bindings. But, the Lynx has my eye, and I've certainly enjoyed being able to try out the Meidjo with my TX Pros. After all the R&D that is going into the bellows for Scarpa's next generation of boots, I certainly hope they don't make this mistake again. Soft, hard, short, or tall, tech toe inserts should be on all future NTN models. Leather boot tech toes? Why not? Lock in and out with your pole or your lurk!

Agree on adding to tech toes as a standard moving forward Robert. Thx!

Any word from SIA on inserts in the Comp?

Are the bellows different stiffness as well as the cuffs?

    • @FreeheelLife
      @FreeheelLife  6 лет назад

Great question. To our knowledge there is only one stiffness rating for the entire boot. With that said in our testing between the two boots, the TX Pro is significantly softer than the TX Comp.

@@FreeheelLife You mean that your testers felt that the bellows on the tx comp were significantly stiffer? Sorry, but your answer didn't clarify about the bellows specifically.

I've been using TX Comps for a few years now. As to flex, while the Comp has a higher stiffness rating than the Pro, I'd say that the stiffness of the bellows breaks down rapidly (on the order of 20 days or so) while the stiffness of the boot remains stable. Not surprising, given the cycles the bellows go through. At the end of 20 days or so, the Comp bellows weren't much stiffer than my old Tx 3 buckle NTN boots, though of course the Comp is higher, stiffer and gives better control.
The other aspect of the Scarpas, is that (on a non-tech NTN type binding) the top surface of the boot under the toe piece of the Freedom binding, at least, gets destroyed. This affects the degree to which the toe is held firmly. For this reason, I'm thinking tech toe NTN is going to be the future - for me at least. Crispi's on order and either Lynx or Meidjo for me.

Yeah, crispi has solved the bellow issue. I quit skiing scarpa years ago.

I’m sold on Scarpa’s. The Crispi boots just crush toes and the Scott’s flex is wrong. I’ve come from many boots but my last 75mm boots were T1 race, that I’d had stiffened. I went straight to TX Pro (Gold) and love them. Got them when the only NTN was binding was the Freeride, great binding but touring on this is a killer and the Freedom isn’t much better. I’m very taken with the PIN bindings out there, so not having tech toes is a really big issues. I’m 6’6” and 17st, so the TX Pro is not up to the job. I wish Scarpa would sort this out.
