I use a teleprompter with my phone projecting the text onto the teleprompter glass. Even though it's only the difference of a couple of inches, having the phone beneath the camera draws your eye away from the lens in a way that tends to be noticeable to the viewer. Even though Teleprompters tend to be a bit of an investment, it definitely makes things seem a lot more natural, at least as far as eye placement goes. :)
