Gala from Berlin (2004)
A joyful celebration welcoming the New Year, this Gala from Berlin presents the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, in Carl Orff's famous Carmina Burana, an intensely dramatic cantata that remains one of the most widely performed works from the twentieth century. With an exceptional vocal line-up -- soprano Sally Matthews, tenor Lawrence Brownlee and baritone Christian Gerhaher -- this is an energetic and thrilling performance. Beethoven's Leonore No. 3 overture and Handel's supreme 'Hallelujah' Chorus are also included.
Have heard this so many times in my life and first time to watch a performance with the audience sitting down., It is usual that the audience stand for this piece.
The conductor is in total control. Wonderful.
Dirigent...Simon Rattle, absolutely wonderful🎀
Hallelujah :)
Simon Rattle, un genio de la direccion.
Gorgeous! Thanks for uploading!
Glad you enjoyed it! Our pleasure! :)
The Best Performance Ever ❤❤
Glad to have this group perform one of my favourite classical works of art, Messiah, by one of my favourite classical composers, George Frederick Handel. Especially the "Hallelujah" chorus, when the whole audience stood up and after the song, the audience appaluded. He was also a deeply religious person who was well-known to compose this oratorio about Jesus.
The ability of the man to conduct with his eyebrows is magnificent!
I would love to hear Russell Watson, Aled Jones, Alfie Boe, Michael Ball, Vincent Niclo, Andrea Bocelli, Mario Frangoulis, Katherine Jenkins, Laura Wright, Sarah Brightman, Hayley Westenra, Charlotte Church, Carmen Monarcha, Andre Rieu, Carla Maffioletti, Kimmy Skota, Mairead Nesbitt, Orla Fallon, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Simon Rattle, Diane Bish, Mirusia Louwerse, Anna Majchrzak, Ellen Williams, London Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Celtic Woman team, Songs Of Praise team and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra will be singing the song The Hallelujah Chorus. #HallelujahChorus #RussellWatson #AledJones #AlfieBoe #MichaelBall #VincentNiclo #AndreaBocelli #MarioFrangoulis #KatherineJenkins #LauraWright #SarahBrightman #HayleyWestenra #CharlotteChurch #CarmenMonarcha #AndreRieu #CarlaMaffioletti #KimmySkota #MaireadNesbitt #OrlaFallon #MeavNiMhaolchatha #ChloeAgnew #LisaKelly #SimonRattle #DianeBish #MirusiaLouwerse #AnnaMajchrzak #EllenWilliams #LondonSymphonyOrchestra #SingaporeSymphonyOrchestra #BerlinPhilharmonicOrchestra #CelticWoman #SongsOfPraise #RTENationalSymphonyOrchestra

It's one of my favourites as seen on BBC's Songs Of Praise (#SongsOfPraise) and NPO 2 and EO's Nederland Zingt. (#NederlandZingt)
Fantastica esecuzione.
For me this is the best version ever
This is very wonderful hallelujah. 🙌 🙏🎼⛪
Yes it is! Thank you for listening! :)
JESUS BLESS YOU!
Lovely performance!
Hallelujh !
Sir Simon rattle good scouser ❤❤❤
Comparing to other choirs bringing this Handel'Messiah, this is the best one..
Very famous song
I am sorry, this is not a song at all. This is a sacred sung choral work...not everything vocal is a song.
Let God judge those by the same standard that they judge His praise being offered here.
Would they stand?
❤❤
I’m surprised the audience wasn’t standing.
Me too, they got up the day before yesterday in Warsaw, Poland
May be the audiences think it's not necessary to honor and respect The Lord Almighty
From what I understand, the King stood up because the music was so good! Nothing to do with the religion. The Messiah was first performed at Easter and not Christmas. I think this particular performance was the Hallelujah chorus on its own and not a performance of the Messiah, so people remained seated@@joshwintour
The German audience didn’t know to stand up!
Very true! in the UK not only does the chorus stand, but also all the audience!! reason? when the King heard it for the first time he shot to his feel believing he was in the presence of God. Therefore if the King stands, every else has to do the same!

This is one of the best renditions I've heard. That conductor is awesome. I would love to see a video of just him during this.
Question...What happened to the sound @2:41?
Tradition calls for the audience to stand when the chorus is sung ! Why is this tradition not observed at this performance? It's been a tradition since 23 Mar 1743
That doesn't exist.
When performed in a complete performance of Messiah. This was an encore after Carmina Burana.
And here in the US, too. Although not universally. @user-ey6tw9nc5i
This should be Jesus Christ national anthem.🙏🫡
Not even Jesus Christ wants to hear this again
?
The cymbal and the triangle are not on the original score. They caught unnecessary attention and diminishes the music power.
It enhances the power
This is an arrangement by Sir Eugene Goossens.
Yes, completely correct.... they did nothing to enhance the musicality and genius of this famous chorus.
@@Antoineduval159i like the Goossens chart much more than all the others for some reason. Love all the trombones and French horns! I think it enhances the power!
