In this video I give a history of the magiquarium tank and unbox / review the kit. I compare it to the Ocean Zoo and give some tips on raising brine shrimp to adulthood.

I’m always happy to contribute to your content however possible. It’s nice that my collection is being utilized in some fashion other than taking up space in my home. And I certainly appreciate the quality of your work and the exposure you bring to the Sea-Monkey brand and to life’s little aquatic miracles of nature in general.
Out of all the new packaging art that will be coming out later in 2023, I’m the most excited to see the upcoming MagiQuarium product for sale. It’s the most in-line with the direction I think the packaging should take in general - more emphasis on the logo and the fanciful characters and less “little elements” watering down what should be the focus.

Totally agree with the direction you’re taking the packaging. The fanciful illustrations are core to the brand and they’re what makes these products so fun. Can’t wait to see it when it eventually comes out 🙌

Hey Mr Machin, sorry to bother you like this. I'm a security officer at a casino in the states, I noticed a while back that the casino has a few amazing live sea monkeys slot machines and I've been wondering for a long while now if you did the artwork for those machines? 14:25 adding the 3d printed lids to your shop is a great idea, there seems to be so much potential for modding these existing tank designs as well. I thought the modded volcano zoos you and others have shared are very neat too
I’ll probably make 3D lids for the Ocean Zoo & Ocean Volcano. Might do one for the Mars/Magic Castle too if people want it

Don't feel bad about you opening them, you're allowing all of us to experience opening them with you, and we wouldn't have that experience without videos like this. It's not just about how we couldn't because of the prices of some of these as you mentioned, the main reason is theres a limited amount that have been produced, and there's just not enough of them left for us all to open one. So you're helping us, your viewers, by providing us with opening experiences like this.
I've just got my first sea monkey kit 2 weeks ago. after years of wanting them an your channel was the very first channel I came to. I got all the info from you an also provided my sea monkeys with all the accessories from the list you provided I truly appreciate all the info an ideas you have given I don't think I could of gotten this far with my sea monkeys with out it. I absolutely love my little sea monkeys. I can't wait to really expand their environment in the future.

the glow in the dark sticker is a really cool idea, a sticker fully covering one side would be fun i think even if it sacrifices some visibility in the daytime
Thank you so much for the new vids. My first sea monkey colony is now 5 days old, and they're because of you. Also, love the 3d printed lids idea, would buy for sure. On that topic though, sea monkeys should release tanks with built in oxygenators or heaters even. Anyway thanks!

This is the tank that got me back into sea monkeys. I can't remember what I was looking for on Amazon when I came accross it, but I am a sucker for glow in the dark and the memory of wanting sea monkeys as a kid made me buy it. Sadly, I don't think I got some good eggs because after over a week only one sea monkey hatched. But that was what brought me to this channel so I guess it's all good. I did not realize the lid came apart in three sections.

Roughly 5 years ago I started getting really interested in spiders, which led to arachnids in general, which led to invertebrates etc. Now here I am raising sea monkeys for the first time since I was 8.

@@pico-cosmos they actually really do. Super low maintinence and very interesting creatures to observe. Not that we can keep too many of the more aesthetically interesting ones here in Aus or NZ, but I've come to really love a lot of our natives anyway.
My most favorite tank of all sea monkeys! That or the mars but magiquarium is a "just enough mix" of novelty and usefullness

I'd definitely love a lid that allows for accessories. Had to cut out part of the side of my Ocean Zoo tank's lid to ensure the USB cable could get through without getting caught on other animals in the house, and it's only enough for a heater - no air pump for these little guys.
I've never even seen a MagiQuarium before this and I kind of love them. Something about the eerie glow combined with the gracefulness of the sea monkeys just... works.
The lids I’m making will have a few notches to accommodate for cables & airlines :)

A lot of these tanks'd be so much better served if they were just a tiny bit bigger. Maybe one day...
An intriguing concept. I really wonder how the company comes up with the different ideas for the tanks, because they seem so varied and different from one another. I really like the look of the mountain in the first edition, I think that design for the glow in the dark was the best!
Different toy companies have licensed the brand over the years. Exploratoy were my favourite, their tanks were all so interesting
I do like the darker blue color of this tank!
Great video John, I always enjoy them. What do you all think if the company that makes these offered a build your own kit option. Offer four different bases, with different textured bottoms and then four different lids, with lights or openings to feed your Sea Monkeys. Then when you choose what you want from their site they ship it to you and you do a little DIY assembly at home. IDK I think it would be cool.
It's definitely a great idea. Tod has drawn up concept illustrations for this sorta thing and pitched it to the brand.. they haven't done anything with it though :/

Thanks for sharing! I remember seeing the magiquarium ads in the early 2000s after several kits I used in the 90s, but I never ended up getting one.
Idea: raise lots of tiny sea monkeys in a massive aquarium. Just go for an obviously big size difference in terms of the fish and the aquarium
I think it would be super cool if they made sets with air pumps and heaters included! Like a deluxe kit or something!
I love that idea! Problem is Dragon-I is more of a toy company than a pet company, so I doubt we’ll see anything like that sadly 😭

Love these tank. Agree the 1 with the sticker on the back seem more effective. Cracks me up that the instruction mentions children several times when adults seem to be the biggest fans!! ❤️

I love this channel so much! sea-monkeys seem so niche, i never heard of them before, but ive been obsessed and learned so much lore from u.
I love your thoughtful, completed, and well-edited videos without gimmicks. You have been immensely helpful in keeping my original tank (started 18 June) thriving! I just started the Executive Suite on 28 July.
I like how the oldest version glows the greatest (and will continue to, even with algae covering the bottom), but I don't like the fact that most of the back is covered because I do like to turn it around and watch from either side as mine are sometimes more active on one side rather than the other.
I am interested in buying a 3D-printed lid with an access port...Currently, I am able to fit an air hose through one of the square holes in the lid, but to have a heater in there I have to keep the lid ajar, which causes more evaporation and salt on the outside.

I really do like the oldest tank the best, that one has the best glow in the dark "wow!" factor to it! And it is pretty crazy to see where it has come with the newer one. Love the video as always!❤

Maybe with the 3D printed lid it can include the light, air stone, and heater
That way it doesn't make the sea monkey aquarium feel cramped/crowded. Otherwise a fully custom sea monkey aquarium with said features would be a route to go as well
Agreed the glow on the first addition was the best. If it was mine. I would add a sickle and hammer decal. Give it that Chernobyl feel. 😅

At first I thought "how different can this be from the ocean zoo" but then it actually ended up surprising me. However, I feel like it went from a really cool product to a disappointing gimmick product because of how much more reduced the glow in the dark feature was. I'm hoping that with the updated box art comes an updated tank that is more phosphorescent, but I'm not holding my breath.
I do really like the magnifying lid cap though, and I initially thought that since they have a magnifying cap, they'd do away with the magnifying bubbles in the tank and I was really excited for you lmao. The fact that it comes off is the best part about it. Speaking of lids, I would be interested in 3d printed lid with a light, and I have a couple suggestions about those. It would be handy to have a purple light version if color switching lights aren't possible, and I'm sure you've probably thought of making one with a hole big enought to accomodate a heater and airline (maybe with a screw on lid on that?) but I thought I'd mention it anyway because you didn't. Another 3d print product idea would be a textured substrate for tanks that didn't include them, since 3d prints already have texture that algae grow in.

Yeah it’s a real shame that the newer tank doesn’t glow as much :/ something else I didn’t mention in the video is that the plastic is a little cloudy for some reason too; the two older tanks are a fair bit clearer.
My 3D printed tank lid will have a few notches to accommodate for airlines / cables, so it should work well with aquarium accessories :)

I think the kit I’ve brought was a bit water damaged as the food packet and the water purifier packets looked damaged when they arrived (as though the sides had gotten wet or something 😰) and I think its caused me some issues. If I’m not seeing any life soon I’m going to binge watch your other tip videos and order a refill to try again! C:

In 2015 a friend gift me the MagiQuarium, the Kit is from 2012 and the box art is different from the ones you showed. I started the MagiQuarium 3 months ago, at first only 5 sea-monkeys grow up to adults, 4 males and 1 female. I do not know why the female turned red when growing, the 4 males have already died and yesterday my little red sea-monkey die. My MagiQuarium is fine, before die my little-red sea-monkey left me a lot of babies. Now I have about 10 or more sea-monkeys that are fine and they are growing, I didn't expect much from a 2012 kit. I love this glow in the dark aquarium!
Ah I assume that's the MagiQuarium from Big Time Toys? I didn't mention it in this video, but I believe that tank is the same as the blister card version from Exploratoy that I showed. Amazing that your old eggs still hatched!

A 3D printed lid sounds interesting.
A couple months back I had an Aquadragon tank that had a decent glow feature with the click of a button (ran on batteries).
I really hope they redesign the tank with all of your suggestions. Love the light as well. I’ll definitely be getting some tanks for my 3 granddaughters. My daughter throughly enjoyed hers when she was their age.

I agree the original tanks glow is much more appealing, I’m sure the decrease in photo luminescent paint/coating is economically driven but I would like to see an increase in it. Love the videos, keep it up.
The glow in the dark is a nice feature my youngest daughter would of really liked it since she's afraid of the dark. But I already got her a night light.

man i think tomorrow im gonna get some sea monkeys, they were a huge part of my childhood, most of which i’ve forgotten due to trauma, and i think it would be almost healing to get some sea monkeys to play around with
