There are two trends I see: 1.) belief in the supernatural without any accompanying belief in the responsibility toward the supernatural (ghosts not God) 2.) Belief in the supernatural in accordance with the aim of achieving one’s personal goals/dreams/aspirations (magic) vs. Belief in the supernatural in order to accord one’s own being to the broader plan. It’s the self-centric vs. God centric view.
We visited my wife’s cousin in hospital last Sunday morning. When lunch was served bedside, the cousin shared that she’d told the meal provider that she hates pork and boiled cabbage. On the lunch form the meal provider had ticked Halal. The three of us had a laugh as she is a Christian and then we wondered why Kosher wasn’t an option. Caterogies can often put people unintentionally in the wrong place in the eyes of others.
This is a seriously fun topic for a video, Paul. You are so good at bringing up touchy topics in an open, honest, and dialogical way. I'm going to enjoy this comment section, I'm sure, and I hope to see more conversations come from this video.
Long-time lurker, seldom poster here. I use your channel as a barometer for what preoccupies normies and boomers with an inclination towards religion, and for the conversations on Orthodoxy, which is ultimately what I'm interested in. I had a transcendent mystical experience and reverted to Orthodoxy at 25 and am trying to find ways to communicate with people about God. I was previously a nominal Christian relativistic materialist rationalist, now attempting to embody the sheep in the parable of the sheep and the goats as a nurse in an ICU. It's a sad lot these young girls I work with, they intuitively know that sex outside of monogamy doesn't bring them any of the things they want in life, children (gotta be on birth control if you're gonna live the modern dating game), husbands worth a damn, or stability. Then the ones that don't put out feel disadvantaged because the boys will drop them in an instant if they can go have casual sex without obligations. I was very skeptical when you opened up with the Baalywood show, glad I didn't close the tab because I appreciated the conversation. We really are unable to talk about these things/ this principality, thank you for helping shed a light on it and expose it.
It seems there needs to be a whole generation of cat ladies, brutal population decline & a pension-debt crisis, before our broader society will consider rethinking our sexual ethic & bonding patterns. Honestly, "religions" so far seem to be the only unifying space, where such a change in attitude can blossom forth into broader society. So far, I see neither women not men leading us away from current disfunction - they don't seem to understand the future consequences; yet. ^^ Maybe 40+ years old women will start to lead down this path... sloooooowly. ❤
I was quite shocked when one of their dates ended in bed. Im now fairly determined to only try to have a romantic relationship with another Christian, that aims at marriage, although my mind wanders sometimes but always comes to the conclusion that another Christian is who I should restrict myself to. Unless we convert to Christianity when we are already married to a non-Christian, I think that is the case in general; the apostle Paul said the mixed marriage through conversion should still be striven for unless the non-Christian leaves. I know one Christian couple who got engaged as friends who hadn't been dating and they have a rich relationship with kids. After being fairly isolated since the pandemic, the program did remind me of what it's like to develop a relationship. The music and general vibe also encouraged that.
29:26 one of its norms may be to have two religious parents to ensure the child is also religious. At least that’s what the mother in the show has foregrounded. And where JP and Vervaeke come in is that’s neither objective or subjective because at one level she’s choosing that reality and at another reality chose her. If the presupposition isn’t working, you have to throw it out. Better than being a devouring mother. Edit: and you said this in the next sentence. Religion’s network of intentionality desires to afford the background.
@@PaulVanderKlaythe "normalization ray" cuts in whatever direction it is aimed. Keep in mind, this show is not uncritical of secular culture. Once a society doesn't have the set of principlas anymore, people will be operating on Nash Game Theory.
The same goes for the reverse. Women don’t want a man who will wait until marriage.

With more ethnic religions like Judaism and Hinduism, theology and embodiment are more closely connected ;-)
Perhaps McGilchrist would argue that being stuck in ones left brain hemisphere to not have a religious bone in one's body?
