Love how you broke down the steps for the night scape. Had so many questions regarding how to pull this off and your video addressed all of them. Thank you so much
I really enjoyed your video. You do an amazing job of explaining how to do landscape with the Milky Way. Will need to start addressing you as Professor Mike.
Very helpful. Thanks for the video. I use Affinity Photo instead of PS. So I am trying to figure out some of those differences. I saw MidlifeRovers comment. Starry Landscape Stacker (at least in 2023) has the ability to add dark frames.
Perea! Hoping to use your techniques next week in New Mexico. Question: When you are taking multiple photographs of the night sky for photo stacking, are you taking them with various settings? Example. Leaving the focus alone, but changing the aperture, ISO, shutter speed? Thanks brother!
Great Video! A few notes: I am a PC user so Sequator is my tool... I always take dark frames too. (Same settings with the lens cap on) It helps a TON with noise and hot pixel removal. It didn't look like that is an option with the stacker you use. On the hot pixel topic... I get lots of red and green pixels that get too hot when I do an exposure over 6 minutes in the summer so I tend to try the blue hour technique but need to work on the blending. I look forward to using your tricks here. An issue with this where there is humidity is the setting dew. By 11pm in Ohio it looks like it rained there is so much dew settling (Tip: A couple hot hand pack held to the lens with rubber bands will reduce this.) Stay well y'all!
dVos Jay oh yes absolutely! And thank you 👊🏼 the channel I recommend Nightscape Images also stacks the foreground for noise reduction. Definitely a useful technique. Luckily most of where I shoot is dry, but I’ll keep your tip in mind when I end up in more humid climates for sure 👊🏼
Hey Mike, what an awesome video. I really enjoyed it and thanks so much for the mention mate. I particularly loved the timelapse you snuck in as well. Take care guys.
Ryan Luna thanks man!!! Yeah I actually have a local guy here that I chat with on ig that’s offered to let me use his and also wants to start on RUclips so I may do some kind of collab with him soon 👊🏼 appreciate the support man and I hope all is well over there with you and your family.
Great vid! What about the fact that the creator of Starry Landscape Stacker recommends including the use of "dark field" shots and "flat field" shots into the Starry Landscape stack? I noticed that you didn't do that (as well as others that use the program that I've watched on RUclips). Not needed? Also, I'm guessing that you don't need to incorporate LR's new "Denoise" feature for these. I just shot the Milky Way, including foreground (10 exposures) had have the Starry Landscape. Problem is, my foreground is very noisy because I did not shoot a blue hour or time exposure. Would you recommend sending it though Denoise before Starry Landscape? (Will not let me Denoise after because Starry Landscape turns the file into a .tiff and LR only adjusts RAW files for Denoise).
Another awesome video. I so much want to go out and take night photos but, at the moment, my wife won't let me. (We are in the 60+ age group so we need to be a little careful.) ;-) What camera do you use for your time lapse? Is it another DSLR or is it GoHero type camera? You provided a link to Richard who lives "down under". I have been following him for quit awhile. Say "Hi" to Chris. Thank you for sharing your videos. Nyall
That's pretty much how I did mine except I use ISO 800 and a shorter shutter speed for the foreground shots. I haven't tried a super long exposure like that. I'm using a z6 II so I can shoot up to 15 min without having to use an intravelometer. I just recently bought the new 20mm lens for it. I've been following Richard for 2 or 3 years. I use Sequator though. I haven't looked at your equipment list yet but it looks like you're using a Benro TMA 38CL tripod.
Hi Michael, so if I understand about your final result, 1st , you took the 12 image blend together proccessed in starry landscape stacker with the image you took from the blue hour compared to 2nd , the 12 images stacked (again ) but this time with the foreground of the long exposure ( that is much cleaner ) ?
Dude!! This is awesome. Love the detail and the presentation Mike, hats off bro. The 13min foreground exposure calculator is a great feature of photopills. The photoshop detail too man is great. Thanks for this!! I like the long exposure blend more funny enough. I thought it would be the blue hour but no.
Greg Snell thanks man!! The great thing about astrophotography is experimenting with all different techniques. Light painting, long exposures and blending. And yes I can’t say enough great things about the PhotoPills app. Just such a great tool. Cheers buddy! Hope you and Nellie and are doing well. 🤙🏼
Thank you, this is a very helpful video! Are there no other people around when you leave your camera out after blue hour? I would not have the guts to leave my camera out for so long, I'd be afraid it would get stolen 🙈 Is there an app / website where I can see where the milky way will be before I get to a location? Is that also possible with photopills? It happens sometimes that I don't have the opportunity to go somewhere in the afternoon already to use the app and see where the milky way will be at what time, so I am looking for something where I can just check this at home the day before I go or in the afternoon or whenever.. Not sure if that exists though 😂
Elly Elzinga thanks for watching Elly! There is nobody around so no problems leaving it out there. And yes PhotoPills you can see where it will be before you get to a location. On the laptop/desktop there is a free app called Stellarium that works well to find it at a given location as well!
Richard is great, thanks for mentioning him. Great job, Mike!
Tony Pierce thanks Tony! Definitely a big fan of Richard!

Alan Humbard haha thank you Alan! Professor of bad haircuts and 2nd breakfast!
Great video! Thanks for mentioning Richard and his channel. You two are my favorite landscape/ nightscape photographers on youtube.
Milorad Karavidin thank you!! That means a lot, and yes I’m a big fan of Richard’s channel!

Very clever, great video
Jon Camera Man thank you Jon!
You’re the man. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching buddy!
@@PereaPhotography hey I have a question, do you shoot with your long exp. noise reduction on?
Love this video Mike a really great and thorough tutorial.....
Richard Taylor thanks for watching Richard. Happy you found it useful!
Awesome video and tutorial ❤

Hey Mike, very nice tutorial especially showing how to mask properly. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for watching!
I am going to do this for my school Capstone Project this weekend. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
Nice work Mike! Glad to see you did a followup to the Milky Way Video.
- Eric from class 😁
Social Nope thank you Eric! Hope all is well buddy!
Two thumbs up buddy, great intro to the program and that finish result was awesome.
Joseph Cole thanks man I appreciate the support!
bro so nicely explained. suscribed
Perea! You're an absolute legend my man. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I struggled a bit, but in the end it was so worth it!
Glad I could help!!
Your videos are very good. You deserve more subs than you have. Thx for the info
Dave thank you Dave!
Buy the starry landscape package for 65.00. I’ve been using the long exposure stacker for sunset landscapes and they come out nearly noise free.

Do you use the INTERVALOMETER to take the 10 shots back to back, or just do it manually? Great video!
Yes just what I needed for this milky way season! Thanks Mike
You got it buddy!
Hey Mike, what an awesome video. I really enjoyed it and thanks so much for the mention mate. I particularly loved the timelapse you snuck in as well. Take care guys.
Nightscape Images thank you Richard! Yeah I can’t say there’s much better than a star timelapse. Fun to shoot and fun to watch! Cheers buddy!
Awesome video.
Richard Bonine, Jr. thank you Richard!
Sound great, but in a hurricane emergency or drastic one, without water or electricity, how this food will help?
Amazing video, Mike! I enjoy your work so much and you're a great teacher. I can't wait to get out to Arizona and try this!
Chris Gutierrez thanks Chris!!!
Amazing video. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Arun Hegden thank you!
Nice work Mike. You ever going to use a star tracker? You'll get more MW and airglow color than stacking.

Hi I love the video. I was wondering what the difference between the Starry landscape stacker and the starry sky stacker is?
Great video! Greetings from Tucson, where did you shoot these photos, may I ask (general area)?
Superstition Mountains! And love the Ahsoka avatar!
wow!!!

There are at least 8 pieces of stacking software now. Nico Carver of nebula photos has done a review of most of them.
I’ll check it out!

Richard is awesome! And the big tripod I use is the Benro 48CXL. It’s a beast! I also have the fgp18c travel tripod which is much lighter haha.
@@PereaPhotography I'm needing a new tripod and I'm looking at Benro. I really don't want to spend $400+ though.
Hi,
Can you pls tell me how u got the 13 minute exposure photos... im quite new to this🙂

Why does the file have to be in the Srgb colour space for Starry Sky Stacker?
Awesome tutorial Mike, really nice work, did you learn this in electrical school? we didn't have this class in plumbing school (LOL). Stay safe.
Enrique haha this was year 4 of the apprenticeship 😂😂 thanks buddy
How do keep the tripod completely fixed with no shifting.
Affinity Photo also stacks stars.

Any person willing to go out to the desert at 3AM to shoot the Milky Way is not going to have a problem spending $40 for software.
Please make a video about how to capture milkiway in mobile
if your'e a mac user , download wine , then download the free stacking software
F8 for 30 seconds during blue hour? You using an ND filter?
