Technically you don't need to register the pirate gun. All firearms prior to 1898 (specifically ones that aren't center or eimfite) are pretty much exempt from ATF regulations. Antique firearms for the win. This includes a lot of cowboy guns. Iirc the firearm could still be manufactured after 1898, but the design has to be from or prior to that year
