I am completely ignorant of both how to play the irish flute and of musical terms in general, but how does one achieve the "rising" in what sounds like pitch in the first 2 seconds of the first song?
kenthed45 on the Irish flute, or almost any flute without keys that only have holes, if you slowly lift a finger or several fingers the pitch rises. It's often called "sliding" or "bending". You can also do it by slowly closing a hole. Bending comes from string instruments where you actually bend the string to stretch it, thus increasing the pitch. The longer a string or a flute, the lower the sound is, and the shorter or smaller a string or a flute or any other instrument is, the higher the pitch. By covering and uncovering holes on a flute, you effectively lengthen and shorten the distance sound travels. If you want an extreme example of sliding on a flute, look no further than the indian Bansuri flute.

Hallo +Graham Altschüler • It's a computermade flute. Mostly in C and sometimes divers...

anudistsjury It's me. Do you have a question for me?
what is the name of the first song please
+Matty V Do you mean first sing off my playlist? That is: It's one small step...
I am completely ignorant of both how to play the irish flute and of musical terms in general, but how does one achieve the "rising" in what sounds like pitch in the first 2 seconds of the first song?
Hello kenthed45. It can be done simply with 2 flutes that I am using in my music program.
I'm a musician myself but I have no idea what you are talking about is sounds like straight notes to me
kenthed45 on the Irish flute, or almost any flute without keys that only have holes, if you slowly lift a finger or several fingers the pitch rises. It's often called "sliding" or "bending". You can also do it by slowly closing a hole. Bending comes from string instruments where you actually bend the string to stretch it, thus increasing the pitch.
