I like how you remembered the respirator, but completely neglected the gloves :') Great work! Loving these patination tests, they're very much filling a gap in my knowledge. Thanks for taking the risks for us :)

@@noviceartisan Haha thanks David. Didn't get too much on my hands and was washing them in between, I think my eyes managed to soak up most of the fumes though !!! By the time I finished I absolutely stank of ammonia. Had to throw my clothes straight in the washing machine afterwards !! Hehe Andy 🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍😎

Thanks Red, hopefully this long project will work out. There are some amazing recipes out there for colouring metal... I'm blown away by the positive response from other YT'ers, makes it all worthwhile. I hope I can do this subject justice. Thanks for your comments bro. Have a great weekend. Cheers Andy 🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍😎

Cheers mate, I'll get the final part up after I have lacquered the pieces (which i am doing today). The rest of the videos, I hope will be a lot shorter as I can skip the setup and application. I don't usually talk much during my videos as I am very shy and hate the sound of my own voice... which made it a bit of a nightmare to edit without losing context. I had 5 hours of footage... and after 30 hours of editing getting it down to 1 hour, I somehow lost it all and couldn't recover it. So I had to start over and re-edit everything into 3 shorter videos... I'm more used to melting videos where I know how to edit it into a nice short video. In future I aim to have each of these patina recipes as a single 10-12 min video. This one kinda threw me a curve ball !! Thanks for your patience !! Andy 🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍

I know the problem I was also doubting whether or not I should talk while filming, I chose not to do it at the first and I am now editing 1 with a voice over. because by talking you can explain more what you mean, which is easier for others to understand.
I edited my first video to speed everything up 10 times so that I can show everything I did in 10 minutes

    • @MeltandCast

@@mrhobbyskills4945 I agree, with talking it's much easier for people to relate to you. I'm trying to get away from videos with just music... I should look at doing a voice over as well, that way I can get better sound quality too. Unfortunately speeding things up doesn't work very well for me, I shoot everything in 4K and my computer really struggles with speeding things up more than 250%, so I tend to add short clips stage by stage. It's fine after the render, but editing is impossible as my computer cant keep up with the frame rate in 4K. If I shoot 4K at 60fps it's even worse... Lot's to learn for sure, I'd never made a video before 6 months ago. But I'll stick with it - might just take a bit longer as I'm a middle aged old fart who doesn't embrace technology so well haha.
Thanks for your comments, have a great weekend. Andy 🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍

for the time being I also use my brother's computer to edit because my own laptops are too slow.
I think I should also buy a faster desktop to improve

@@mrhobbyskills4945 I use a desktop with SSD's and a 1080i card and it still struggles with 4K speeded up... I think dual cards are the way to go, but that's more than I want to spend at the moment - I'd rather spend the money on a DSLR first... I currently use a Samsung S10+ with cheap lights. Which is actually very good quality wise, but not so easy to use whilst working on projects. When I sell my quad I'll spend the money on a DSLR and better camera gear... Although I think my videos will still be crap... I think the phrase "all the gear no idea" may apply haha. Enjoy the weekend buddy, Andy 🍺🍺🍺👍👍👍

There is some really interesting chemistry at work here. Loads of ligand chemistry and some good acid base chemistry as well.

Thanks Westwood, I don't understand the chemistry side of things so much. I had planned on taking this subject a lot further, I'll perhaps revisit it in the summer when I can do it outside. Cheers Andy 🍺🍺🍺

I am trying to figure out why my house water (city water) was green when I moved into my house a year ago. We have copper pipes. I can't get answers from health dept, city, scientists, etc. We have not been drinking it. Replaced pipes under the house to Pex but still needing to replace pipe from house to meter. Any information you have would be appreciated.

Interesting. Is it still green or has it gone away since you moved in ? In the UK almost all houses use copper pipes, apart from newer houses where they use plastic and pushfit fittings as its cheaper. I've never heard of anyone ever getting green water in the UK, our water is crystal clear and can be drunk straight from the tap. Green in copper is from oxidisation and for this to happen air must be present. Which would be somewhat illogical as the back pressure from the water supply should keep the pipework full of water. Was the water system switched off and drained for a long period of time before moving in, allowing the pipes to fill up with air ? Chlorine can also cause copper to turn green, although I would imagine chlorine levels would have to be quite high. The only other thing that pops into my head is chemicals from fracking activities. Although i know nothing about this as fracking is not done in the UK. Copper pipes are usually safe as. Cheers Andy :)

@@MeltandCast no it was only green a few minutes when we turned on all faucets. I've recently started drinking it and using for cooking. Not sure it's the water or poor food choices this last week due to stress but my stomach has been pretty upset. LOL
