We had no money growing up. My friends thrifted me a PS2 when they upgraded. My grandma went out (she knew I liked the Simpsons) and she bought me this game. I know everyone hates it - but the game/soundtrack warm my heart so much and remind me I am loved by those who had so little ❤
The Simpsons Skateboarding was made by the developer The Code Monkeys who also did the infamous PS1 and PS2 games that were published by Phoenix and would include a crappy cartoon (most of them being Dingo Picture cartoons) with activity games that are painfully boring.
I remember Flanders being the best in the Simpsons wrestling. He had a move were he prays and 3 bolts of lightning would strick the other player. Once they were down, all you did was spam that move and they would get up while you pin.
I know wrestling and boxing aren’t the same, but they missed the trick with Homer’s specific perk being able to take punches without being KO’d and never needing to raise a fist.
I remember playing the Simpsons arcade game with my friend while waiting for his brother to finish his hockey practice. I think it was one of like.... Four arcade games at the place lol.
I could be completely wrong but an observation I’ve made of older games and PS1 games in particular, is they kind of expected you to read the manual instead of giving you a tutorial.
I don't think it was until a decent way into the life of seventh-gen consoles that basic tutorials started to become standard and it was more because companies wanted to save costs by not printing manuals than because of significant customer demand for them. Plenty of games would have some sections explaining mechanics but you would often see things like "press the [ACTION/INTERACT/MENU] button to do the thing", but often the game wouldn't tell you which button it actually was because it was expected you at least had a page listing the controls. I'm guessing this saved a bit of development time since it's easier to just print different cards for different platforms than to modify the tutorial section for each one's button scheme...if your game was exclusive to one platform then you could just say "Do a Barrel Roll! Press Z or R twice!" without having to worry about people who don't have a Z button.

You're right about the latest Skate game btw. It's an online "games as a service" focussed experience. Source: I'm in the play tests 😂It's not very good. Feels and looks like it was made in unity. You also can't do late flips for some reason. When you try, it just tweaks the board for grinds.
@@TheDJDUCK01 I hate to break it to you but based on the branding of the work in progress Skate title being just "Skate" and the whole thing being an always online, micro transaction focussed "experience" suggests to me they have the same plans for it as the Sims which they have already made public. There will be no sequels now, they will just maintain and update the "Skate" and "The Sims" experiences for the foreseeable future. I'd bet my bottom dollar there will never be another Skate sequel after the one they're working on unless we have some 1980's style video game crash and everyone goes back to making actual games instead of "games a service". Same goes for The Sims.

It's a jank, 2000's backyard wrestling game endorsed heavily by ICP. (If you play, play as Josh Asbill. I'll consider it a personal favor)
Smackdown 2 Know Your Role was awesome. Also, I really still want you guys to play Sheep Raiders for the PS1. It’s a Wyle E. Coyote game and I remember it being fun as hell, and I think it would make for a great episode lol

Yeah, this was a...this happened towards the end of the time they slapped Simpsons on anything and everything. .Simpsons wrestling, yeah that happened. 😅 . Simpsons skateboarding 1 & 2, but it's something all of us went through playing this one 😅, I found you had to use the depad on the controller for jumps, press the jump button X and release just before the jump, to get air you have to hold and release down on the depad at the same time, yeah it was, it happened. And you can tell it's an early 00's game, they didn't hold back on what they got the actors to read for "taunts" . 😅. Love the content guy's. 😊
That "Set start here" was 100% a note between developers and that's amazing. I never heard of that one. It's like the Hitman game where the description of some item was just telling some other guy to fill it in. But it's more cute when it's one tiny slip up in an otherwise great game.

Simpsons skateboarding 1 & 2, but it's something all of us went through playing this one 😅, I found you had to use the depad on the controller for jumps, press the jump button X and release just before the jump, to get air you have to hold and release down on the depad at the same time, yeah it was, it happened. And you can tell it's an early 00's game, they didn't hold back on what they got the actors to read for "taunts" . 😅.

That "Set start here" was 100% a note between developers and that's amazing. I never heard of that one. It's like the Hitman game where the description of some item was just telling some other guy to fill it in. But it's more cute when it's one tiny slip up in an otherwise great game.
