I own a beautiful crystal that have this color changing properties. growth lines can be appreciated throughout the hole portion of the raw crystal. tubular like lines inside of the crystal can be appreciated with strong jewelers loupe however it is very clean & has no air bubbles. when exposed under certain white lights it shift's to light blue-dark blue & under some other white lights a mint light green-emerald green can also be clearly appreciated. Also when exposed to Incandescent light & or fire light an raspberry red-pinkish or purplish hue can be clearly appreciated. it is a triclinic shaped crystal. I do not know for sure what it is. found it on a remote river bend mixed up with a mica saturated sand & river pebbles deposit. your help on identifying what it is will be very appreciated.
When I was a younger woman I had a patient that had a huge pendant that was absolutely lovely (I wasn't passionate about jewelry yet so that I noticed it was simply due to it's captivating beauty) As I brought her down the hallway to the Nurse's station we hit a large window and I turned to guide her to my desk. The color change took place before my eyes & it was magnificent! It was so incredible I had to show all the other nurses! She explained that her granddaughter had married very, very well and it was the very 1st extravagant gift she bought for her! How dear our grandmother's are to us!!💝
My name's Alexandrine, so when I was born in the 90's my mom decided to try to get an Alexandrite for me. Cute idea right? Well, our local jeweler looked at her and was like: no you're not. At the time it was way more expensive than diamonds! But she didn't know because google (and your wonderfully informative video) didn't exist of course. Now that I'm more informed, maybe I'll try to get one for myself. They are truly fascinating stones.
I went to a gem store in Asheville, NC and asked to see it, cause it is my birthstone as well. Dude had to open a safe to bring it out and show me. 😲😲😲 Only time I ever saw one.
My daughter and I went into a jewelry store in Park City, Utah. They had some amazing jewelry that were made by well known designers in the area. We found a very nice silver leafed band ring, with a small round Alexandrite stone in the middle. Knowing the value and rarity of finding a genuine Alexandrite, my daughter purchased the ring. It is very beautiful :)
When I visited my homeland, Sri Lanka, in 1976 (aged 23) I was shown the amazing qualities of alexandrite. I thought I would like my life to be devoted to this remarkable gemstone. Alas! life is chaotic and my alexandrite fantasy evaporated in the disasters that enveloped me. This good video shows me what might have been. I am 69 :)
Wow! Actually your post is the only one I have ever heard describing my ring. Its greyish green and amythyst color. I got mine is1969 as gift from husband. All the others I've seen were bright green and purple-synthetic I guess.

I wear it proudly…& get lots of compliments…❤
Alexandrite is an amazing stone, I own some from Brazil, it’s colour change is subtle. I’ve also got some rough Russian Alexandrite which is a totally different colour, more blue than green, but very red under incandescent light. It’s the light the stone rejects is what you see. I had the honor of creating an Alexandrite Tahitian Gold pearl pendant in 14k for a customer. Birthday Present for his wife. My mother has a gorgeous Russian Alex necklace & bracelet set. Russian is basically mined out. Nice grape to raspberry. Right now Brazil is producing some of finest.
I have a .28. tcw natural Russian alexandrite that I have had for decades. It is a loose round stone. The color change is a raspberry purple pinkish color by incandescent light and a more blue green by daylight. It is my husband’s birthstone and I plan to have it set in a ring containing several other gems I have. I just have to find the right setting. Hence your advice on finding a jeweler I trust is so valuable and informative for me. ❤️🥰🤦♀️

My stones go from a clear, gentle green to a vivid shocking pink. It's marvellous. I think the record for the highest price ever paid for a gem was for a Russian Alexandrite. Mine is from the seam that was found in Orissa, which is on the same topographical line as the Russian seams that are now depleted. I also have colour change sapphires from Tunduru, but the colour change is much more subtle.
I m from Costa Rica and I have a 12 mm Alexandrite from Russia, on 1968 my wife graduate from high school and her father and her went to Cavalini Italian jewlery to choose the stone , they show her some stones and she got hook on the " mood stone" or color change Alexandrite, she has the 8 mm oval smooth dome on 14 k gold ring. After for unknow reazon she went back to the store a bought the round 12 mm to later make a custoum ring that never happen. On 1972 we start dateing and on January 13 1973 on my birhday she give has a present the stone. So it is at list about 50 to 60 years old what I think , make it a real Russian Alexandrite becouse the Brazil ones were found in 1987. I will like to be advice in how to get it cerified , becouse for what I see on the forums it can go from $50 k to $70k per carat

I'm so glad I found this video! I have a necklace that I was told had amethyst in it, but the color changing of the stone totally threw me off. Then on top of that, at a little local jewelry shop, they put the stone under UV light and it started glowing this pink/red color! I was told by them it could be alexandrite but they didnt have enough familiarity with the gem to tell me for sure, and all other videos I've found on youtube show more of that green/red color change while mine is purple(artificial)/blue(natural). Definitely makes me more confident that it could be alexandrite. Do you have any recommendations on where I could take it to get a definite identification? There are certainly other color change gemstones, but Alexandrite is distinct. And, it will fluoresce brilliantly under UV light. But, so will Sapphire. And, even synthetic Sapphire you get the brilliant color. There is man made Alexandrite, but, I don't know if it will fluoresce too. If the setting is older then it is likely natural. If it is a more current setting, you can bet it is synthetic. Good luck, your only option to know for sure would be to send it to GIA for certification. But, that can get pricey.

Alexandrite is a pretty stable stone. the question would be more relevant if your stone is moderately to heavily included. There could be concerns at that point.
Just recently I bought a silver ring with a small gem stone, that was sold to me as a Tourmaline, and was advised that it changes colors from green (inside store/ unnatural light) to pinkish purple color (outside/natural daylight). I’ve started reading about it, because was curious what are the physics behind the color change and found about Alexandrite thinking that my stone is this, but it changes the opposite compared to what the videos say. Green when indoors and pinkish when outdoors. So even after couple of videos, I am still very confused do I have a real stone or lab made and how it called. Any help on this?😅
I agree with @Roger Hargreaves. You will also have to look closely at inclusions to confirm they are natural. There are several lab grown color change. They will show the same as natural on most of these tests.
I do speak to this in some of my other videos…short answer though: I would look for independent jewelry stores that stock genuine natural gemstones and can speak with some confidence in their process and what treatments their stones go through to gauge their knowledge.
Good luck finding anything that large. The largest found is only approx 142ct( rough uncut) You'll pay $1200 pr/ct for good nat seed lab created Alexandrite. I did a pc for customer 8 yrs ago. 2x3mm oval (about size of grain of rice) @ $300/ pr stone x's 30. Depending on qlty color country of origin you can easy pay $10k USD for 1 ct. As ct size increases the price pr ct increases exponentially. Russian Allex is basically mined out. I think they found a small pocket 10 yrs ago. Thats probably gone or close to it. Sri Lanka has some lower grades, olive green to sand brown colors more like chrysoberyl. Brazil is still producing best color clarity right now. I lost one of the 2x3 when setting plier slipped. Seen it go. Spent 4 days on hand knees. Got to be behind my bench under clam molding. I'm ripping the floor out before I move.😁

It’s probably alexandite. No other stones change color

Are there or is there a cut(s) that show the color off especially well for alexanderite?
The color change should not be affected by cut, but a good stone cutter can get the most out of the color itself.

Just recently I bought a silver ring with a small gem stone, that was sold to me as a Tourmaline, and was advised that it changes colors from green (inside store/ unnatural light) to pinkish purple color (outside/natural daylight).
I’ve started reading about it, because was curious what are the physics behind the color change and found about Alexandrite thinking that my stone is this, but it changes the opposite compared to what the videos say. Green when indoors and pinkish when outdoors. So even after couple of videos, I am still very confused do I have a real stone or lab made and how it called. Any help on this?😅
Lab made stones are chemically identical to natural stones.

A refractometer would be best. Maybe a Chelsea filter.

I agree with @Roger Hargreaves. You will also have to look closely at inclusions to confirm they are natural. There are several lab grown color change. They will show the same as natural on most of these tests.

I do speak to this in some of my other videos…short answer though: I would look for independent jewelry stores that stock genuine natural gemstones and can speak with some confidence in their process and what treatments their stones go through to gauge their knowledge.

Good luck finding anything that large. The largest found is only approx 142ct( rough uncut)
You'll pay $1200 pr/ct for good nat seed lab created Alexandrite. I did a pc for customer 8 yrs ago. 2x3mm oval (about size of grain of rice) @ $300/ pr stone x's 30. Depending on qlty color country of origin you can easy pay $10k USD for 1 ct. As ct size increases the price pr ct increases exponentially. Russian Allex is basically mined out. I think they found a small pocket 10 yrs ago. Thats probably gone or close to it. Sri Lanka has some lower grades, olive green to sand brown colors more like chrysoberyl. Brazil is still producing best color clarity right now.
I lost one of the 2x3 when setting plier slipped. Seen it go. Spent 4 days on hand knees. Got to be behind my bench under clam molding. I'm ripping the floor out before I move.😁

I hate when jewelers poo poo many gemstones for rings. Just stop. Opal is very soft. Worn in rings all the time. I have a Nigerian tourmaline( 7 mohs) I wear daily for yrs. Even in my work I have no probs.
