One of the best non-superheroes superhero movies I've ever seen. This was such a good watch, was not expecting that twist at all. Great movie. Thank you all for watching with me cheers🤍
Was waiting when you were going to watch this film.Extra reason of you being an artist. Human Condition is so complex and fascinating. Not the bad stuff, but sadly they are part of humanity, until proper education is conveyed in educational insititutions. A corrupt system produces bad apples, intentionally. For many reasons. Crimes, hate crimes, ecomonic crimes; all in the pursuit of the "Happiness" while injustice and evil thrive. Good people are left to stay afraid, silent and unorganized , more so than evil men. Trust your viewers in their suggestions. Everyone but even more those who seek cultivation of the mind, soul and spirit.
What an amazing movie, I love it so much, although I always feel so so bad for Elijah's mama. She was a very good mother, she was always supported her son, encouraged him to test his boundaries... and at the end she lost him anyway, it breaks my heart.
Wow. That's such an interesting perspective that I never thought about. She was such a great mom indeed. I wonder how she will feel if she finds out what he did
I agree, after a couple watches I realized how sad it is the first time we meet her in present day is moments before her son is exposed as a mass murderer.
There were moments I thought you were going to figure out the ending! Talking about the use of purple--Elijah always wore black and purple, and the styling of his hair gives him the "disproportionate, distorted head shape" typical of comic book villains. Ugh. Writing this, I'm realizing that that might not go down so well these days, with more awareness of the Western bias against natural Afro hair styles. But it works so well for his character. It sounds like you'll probably finish the trilogy--Split is great, Glass is...controversial. But you've watched the golden trilogy of Shyamalan's best films, from '99 to '02. I do hope at some point you'll check out The Village, which is what he made right after Unbreakable and Signs. It was pretty divisive, but if you go in without expectations, I think you might really appreciate the humanity of the story!
I think my sympathy for Elijah's character maybe prohibited me from even thinking of him as the villain. I look forward to watching both movies that come next and he has the village is on my list. I've always lived every M Night Shyamalan movie amazed. I'm surely going to continue
this is one of my favorite "comic book" films ever. also fun fact, I was just across the stadium that David worked at, today. My mom is getting treatment in the hospital there.
One thing that you might appreciate as an artist, and one of my favorite aspects of this movie is that every one of the criminals or bad people that David encounters throughout the film are all dressed in bright or vivid colors. All the regular, law abiding citizens depicted are all clad in drab, dark, and muted colors - including David. I also like that M. Night used a lot of shots in scenes that used reflective surfaces, rather than just pointing the camera at the actors themselves. Definitely his best film imo.
Unbreakable is M Night's masterpiece to me. The 'no shooting friends' scene is amazing perfomances from everyone and Sam Jackson really makes you feel for him, up to (and maybe after😅) the twist. On its own it's a powerful film, but in the context of the trilogy is even better.
Exactly. I think the way I felt bad for Elijah is one of the reasons, I did not think of him as the final villain. That twist was just so good. I like that. I'll watch both movies
remember him speaking about waking up every morning to an unknown sadness. I believe the sadness came from not being what he was born to be and not knowing it ie a superhero of sorts and that sadness put a wedge between him and his family.
"They called me Mr. Glass." Fun Fact: Feature film debut of Laura Regan as a young Audrey. Casting Notes Fact: Writer/Director M. Night Shyamalan always had Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson in mind to play the roles of David Dunn and Elijah Price. Director M. Night Shyamalan cameos as the stadium drug dealer. Medical Fact: Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a real, but rare disease. Australian celebrity and reality television show personality Quentin Kenihan (who is disabled in real-life, which was seen and depicted in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)) was born with the disease. People with this disease generally don't grow to be as tall as Samuel L. Jackson. Osteogenesis Imperfecta is described as having types each increasing in severity. At the time this movie was made only 4 types were identified. There are currently 8 types of the disorder identified as well as several subtypes.
I saw this movie in 2000 the music was perfect the story was perfect the dialogue was perfect the chemistry between the actors was perfect.... there's no flow in this movie if there's perfect movie this one is
Watching this reaction really made my day. I love the respect you had for the movie, and your intelligence in your interpretations. This movie is stunning and that ending - whoa so epic. Mr. Glass has become my favorite villain of all time. Thank you for sharing!! Definitely subscribing and can’t wait to watch more
This is just an amazing series of films, especially for comic book nerds. It's such a fresh twist on what has been seen many times before in print or on film, but flips it on its head because no one is in a colorful set of tights.
I haven’t seen this since it first came out, and I enjoyed watching again with you. Shout out to your cats. Mine are sitting here watching with me. Cats are the best.
Such a great film, an amazing exploration of ones identity and destiny. A really unique take on superhero's. Both did such a great job. Altho like most people Im sure, I wish I was more like David (unbreakable) than Mr Glass. Ive come to hate dealin' with medical. Find out about next surgery on the 20th. Not sure if I'll be able to type for a bit, but will try. I'll def be watchin'. Thanx so much, take care, hi to the wifey, give the kitties a cuddle, to cute. Peace
Thanks for reacting to one of my all-time favorites! Also FYI Elijah wasn’t an artist he was a collector of comic book memorabilia (Limited Edition was his company).
18:50 -- RE: Mr Glass in foreground, Egyptian hieroglyphics background; Full Disclosure, I've watched this film several times and I'm only now noticing the Egyptian motif behind him. Gosh darn it, *what is written there?* Because yeah, it ought to be translatable, hm. And besides, film is art in which the director (also producer and writer!) makes sure to put each and every thing into the scenes deliberately, as a painter would.
27:37 -- RE: "Oh God how many bones are going to break?"; A: Yes, you were mentioning how M. Night is very adept at making the Audience feel things... even catching the condensed version here makes me sick in the stomach with dread and pity for Elijah.
I just watched a Ghostbusters reaction where she was like "I know Bill Murray was in the first one, and Paul Rudd was in one of the recent ones." I was like...yes, Bill Murray was in GHOSTBUSTERS. Paul Rudd was in a later movie called "ghostbusters", sure. Just like Split and Glass are "sequels" to this movie, sure.
At the time this movie came out , all the superhero movies we know today were not yet made... because of this movie doing well... It was an indicator that comic book / superhero movies were on a comeback... This movie helped usher in all we know today with all the modern superhero films... Thank You Mr. M. Knight... 😎
This was fun, thank you. I saw this when it first released and absolutely loved it. I’m glad your going to watch both Split and Glass as I personally enjoyed the whole trilogy.
16:50 I've been looking behind you wondering if you maybe had done the artwork on your wall. The style seems somewhat similar for most of them. Now I know you must have and I find them quite well done.❤ I like the one that you had up during your reaction to Dune. It shows a face in a hand mirror frame, with a uniform background. It's intriguing to me. Like maybe we're inside looking out of the mirror. The images in the mirror are the only things we can see and everything else is uniform. I appreciate your comment on people buying art. Maybe the piece is a moving portrayal of something significant, and someone is buying it because it's colors go well with my couch. Ugh no. 😅 This explains how you were so insightful to the many subtleties in the two reviews I've seen you do. 46:47 AAAAWW ❤
I think its ambiguous for a reason, not knowing if he was the kid at the bottom of the pool. I think he is supposed to be the kid, but its vague on purpose so you never really know. That's why I love M Night for his earlier movies.
I feel you. even when he confirmed it during the scene when his son was pointing a gun at him, he could have been lying to persuade his son to drop the gun.
It's not vague at all. David's water phobia is mentioned as soon as the train scene. The teacher begins the talk with 'sending you to the hospital'. The measures around the pool were 'because of you'. She then switches into a third person when talking about David's tale circulating between the kids. There are quotation marks in the subtitles during this segment. Then again, she asks him in second person. 'You still phobic of water?' David even explains the story to Elijah, that he was the one who nearly drowned. It's literally what makes David doubt the theory in the first place. Elijah then calls David with the epiphany about his relationship with water. It's David's kryptonite. David then nearly drowns again at the end of the movie. It's consistently the only thing capable of harming him.
I'm way past being over superhero movies, but there are a very few that I love. This is one of them. Another is Mystery Men, which is a hilarious movie.
Honestly, unlike _Sixth Sense_ which has extra rewatch value _specifically_ because of the ending, this one really plays pretty much the same. I absolutely love this film and its ending, but the fact is Elijah really DOES have the desperation and motivation to find a hero that we see in him from the start, whether you know his secret or not. It just turns out he sees himself in the supervillain role once that hero is discovered, rather than the wise mentor. (He did mention "witnessing" atrocities that he caused, but that's just pretty straightforward continuity.) In other news...props James Newton Howard for the best score of all Shyamalan's movies.
Props on the vigilantism view tbh, I always felt the same since I lived through the war in Bosnia, also you can probably remove the "One of" in the best non-superhero movie statement. M Night set the bar with this one.
Another great reaction Frank. Ya know, The Sixth Sense was good, but it's actually one of my least favorite M. Knight films. Personally I prefer Unbreakable, Split, Signs, Lady in the Water, Devil, and The Village over it, though I'm probably in the minority that way. Unbreakable IS a super hero movie, just the one that's probably most grounded in reality, which is what makes it so great!!!
I remember liking this movie decades ago but then I watched all the Marvel and DC superhero movies and let me tell you... Unbreakable hits different after those😐 I hope you get to Split and Glass soon! Love you!❤
Your paintings are so amazing, I don't paint canvas but I do paint dolls, realistic baby dolls, and I get it too, I sold one to a woman, then found out it was for her 4 year old, and I seen pics of the doll months later and it looked horrible, these dolls are not meant to be played with, it art, and it does feel awful when you see it not being appreciated 😢
I might be way of here, but if you're a fan of football you might like the movie Any Given Sunday (1999). It's a stacked cast, but to name just a few it stars Al Pacino as the aging coach of a struggling NFL team, and Jamie Foxx plays the team's up and coming quarterback.
@@FrankFreezy_ Yeah. It deals somewhat with the aspect of injuries in the NFL, and since you commented on the same theme in "Unbreakable" here it just popped into my head. Not sure it's a reaction that would do very well on YT, but maybe watch it in your own time and put it all up on Patreon. :)
For another non-superhero superhero movie, I recommend Alita: Battle Angel (2019) developed and written by James Cameron. His friend, director, Robert Rodriguez officially directed, only because James Cameron was so tied up with the Avatar movies, but Alita was James Cameron's other big franchise which he was only away from by chance because of the success of Avatar and he really wanted to bring Alita to the screen. So Robert Rodriguez said he directed as much in the style of a James Cameron film as he could, and it's a great movie. The best big screen manga/anime live action adaptation made and arguably the only good one so far.
Geez its not ambiguous, David was nearly drowned as a kid. The movie reminds you of this when he is in the swimming pool later on. Weren't you paying attention?
This is a fantastic film. But PLEASE PLEASE do it justice by following SOON with the other two films in the trilogy. So many reactors will use a first of two or three and never follow through. It's a three part story!!! While I'm at it...lol...You seemed to enjoy "Silence of the Lambs". There are two additional films there too - "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal". Both of which h I feel are considerably better than Silence of the Lambs. Keep doin you!! ✌️
I already have stuff scheduled out because I have limited time, so I just can't jump in to the next two immediately. but I do plan to watch them because really enjoy the movie. Same story with red dragon and Hannibal, I'm also 1000% going to watch the Hannibal TV show eventually
@@FrankFreezy_If you intend to watch the show, you might wait on Hannibal (movie) and Red Dragon (or it's previous version - Manhunter). Those movies are both arcs in the show.
Maybe the livechat already answered this, but the wife is played by Robin Wright-Penn, who you saw as Jennie is Forrest Gump, and she's also the princess in the movie Princess Bride in case you've seen it. :)
8:15 -- RE: "Could you call it Jealousy or Envy from the families of victims?"; A: Survivors can have Guilt without any other humans being involved, but yeah, the families will likely be going through a complex set of emotions when considered as a large group. Some of them will be plain angry and hurt because it doesn't seem fair that their loved ones are gone regardless of who or what Bruce's character is, but in his case it must be worse because yeah he doesn't even have a scratch on him which, from skeptical and suspicious points of view makes him look somehow culpable. And, of course, there's the tension of an M. Night thriller because hardly anything just happens by accident.
NOT that these films are related at all... But your VERY next reaction should be to Shayamalan's later films. "Split", and "Glass", in particular. In that particular order, for no particular reason.
I live this movie and part 2 split is just as good but in m.night fashion every few movies he has some stinkers. He had a great opportunity to have an awesome trilogy but he really messed up glass.....sucked! But he came back nice with the visit. Watch that

Just wanted to let you know.. I thoroughly agree with your views on vigilantism 😊
I might have to watch this again...watched it when it first came out..to me it was possibly the worse movie I've seen.
All right, so let’s get on with the other two movies man. 😊
Elijah is not an artist. He is an art dealer. The art he sells is created by the artists that drew comic books.
He regards their work as art
Interesting. I thought he created them. Good to know
One of my favorite movies. I watch it once every year or two, and it always hits me in the emotions. So well made.
It's a movie I'm sure I'll return to. I see why it's one of your favorites

Cool cat man, I have one also. You called it on SLJ being the villain. I feel you on M. Nights writing child characters. 😊👏👏
Thank you. Being a cat's parent is awesome. Yeah it turned out to me dark. He killed so many people.

46:47 AAAAWW ❤
Okay first of all great movie. I’m 100% down with people getting knee capped and he’s a cat lover. What’s not to like about this guy?
lol you are my kind of person
'You still phobic of water?'
David even explains the story to Elijah, that he was the one who nearly drowned. It's literally what makes David doubt the theory in the first place.
Elijah then calls David with the epiphany about his relationship with water. It's David's kryptonite.
David then nearly drowns again at the end of the movie.
It's consistently the only thing capable of harming him.
0:51 Unbreakable is a truly well made movie in every way. (Second one is an ok movie but nothing special. The third one is horrible garbage.)
I was waiting for when you’d realized that the wife is Jenny from Forrest Gump 😅
And the whole time I didn’t😂 someone told me in the comment section
You gotta watch split and the visit. And people knock the village but i loved that twist too
I'm way past being over superhero movies, but there are a very few that I love. This is one of them. Another is Mystery Men, which is a hilarious movie.
I feel that. I’ll look up mystery man
A good mantra in life is that if Frank would be disappointed in your actions, you’re probably doing the wrong thing.
Bam! Yer dang right!
Follow up by watching Split after this, SOOOOON!!
This, James Gunn's 'Super' and the original Robocop are my three favorite superhero movies that aren't based on any comic book.
This was sooo good!
Oh yeah. Watching it was a blast
Completely unrelated, but you should check out the movie Split (2016) its got a similar vibe ;))
You recognize the wife from Forrest Gump, she played Jenny 😀.
Yes yes yes 😄
Props on the vigilantism view tbh, I always felt the same since I lived through the war in Bosnia, also you can probably remove the "One of" in the best non-superhero movie statement. M Night set the bar with this one.

@@LordVolkov good to know thanks
6th sens is not a creation it's a remake
huh
Maybe the livechat already answered this, but the wife is played by Robin Wright-Penn, who you saw as Jennie is Forrest Gump, and she's also the princess in the movie Princess Bride in case you've seen it. :)
The live chat answered it, and the moment someone mentioned forest Gump I just got so excited because I remembered Jenny 😊💜 thanks
My mom had serious mental issues. I found this movie fascinating especially at the end the reveal
Sorry to hear that. Very fascinating indeed
you should watch the two movies that come up after this. pretty interesting stuff
Gotcha
Can’t wait to see your reaction to the next 2!
you have beautiful kitties. what are their names and how old are they?
NOT that these films are related at all... But your VERY next reaction should be to Shayamalan's later films. "Split", and "Glass", in particular. In that particular order, for no particular reason.
I live this movie and part 2 split is just as good but in m.night fashion every few movies he has some stinkers. He had a great opportunity to have an awesome trilogy but he really messed up glass.....sucked! But he came back nice with the visit. Watch that
