I love that you guys enjoy AESPA! Tbh, they make a lot of great bops and I agree that they really do balance each other very well. It is interesting though because after “Savage” if going in order you have “Dreams Come True” and “Girls” that still follow the predominant storyline they debuted with. But there is a shift (as I mentioned before) with their more recent releases and after “Life’s Too Short” a song that addresses their haters. Their music is still great after but a lot of ppl did recognize a little change of focus with their storyline. Because “Spicy” “Better Things” “Drama” and their b-sides released since then have been relaxed w the heavy black mamba and ae (avatar) references. As you know they do have the “Black Mamba” storyline and so in “Savage” Aespa finally entering into the KWANGYA to defeat the BLACK MAMBA. They sing about being savage (not being scared) and when the time comes they will defeat the mamba and the time to is getting closer (which hint I'm pretty sure happens in "GIRLS"). Also, the part you asked about “what was that” is Naevis. NAEVIS is an “AI system that helps the aes (avatars) of AESPA appear in the real world, allowing them to be seen by the real AESPA members.” Savage did really good on music charts, debuted at #4 on Gaon Digital Chart, #14 on Billboard’s world digital song sales, #37 on Billboard’s Hot Kpop 100, #60 on Billboard Japan Hot 100, and #77 on Billboard global 200. They also ascended positions to higher peaks as well. "Savage" also achieved top scores on various South Korean weekly music programs which are very prominent in South Korea that helps with kpop idols’ songs promotions, sales, streams, etc. SAVAGE won eight music show awards and won the "triple crown" award. The members recently talked about the fact that before Giselle joined the debut team, Aespa was meant to have a very cutesy, almost generic concept, but Giselle's arrival actually injected the team with such attitude that the whole concept got turned around and ended up being the Aespa we know and love today!

I listened to this Mini Album on CD last night. A brilliant debut. I also saw the new highlights for the new Whiplash Mini Album due in the next week or two. The first track had a sound derived from the German Group Kraftwerk. Ironically, the track Supernova uses a sample from the song Planet Rock from the 80s by the American Group Afrika Bambaatta. The track used the music from the 70s song Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk. A lot of Kpop fans would be listening to different type of K-Pop if these artists from the past had not been around.
I know people are divided about early Aespa, but I love the songs and the lore. For me, I appreciate that each of the songs are telling a larger story about their battle against the black mamba. It’s not about love, it’s not about a boy or heartbreak. It’s a soundtrack and propels the story forward.
They have a Universe called SMCU(SMent Culture Universe) All the Aespa and SM artists connected by this SMCU and This Universe's main character is Aespa. Animated Characters and Naevis things even Lylics All related with SMCU. and They have a short movie for SMCU that Aespa comes. But these days, SM doesnt put effort to SMCU, cause SM's CEO has changed. New CEO dont want put some Universe to Artists. SMCU influenced Aespa song is 'Black Mamba', 'Next Level', 'Savege', 'Girls' These four songs match the SMCU story order. So Next song is Girls.
I had a similar appreciation curve with Aespa and NMixx. In the first several listens, I wanted to like their songs more than I actually did. The talent was there but the transitions felt a little disjointed initially. Then once I learned the changes and knew to anticipate them, I liked it a lot better. Then in later releases I am not sure whether my ears adjusted or they fine tuned the style, but I followed along with Spicy and Drama right from the beginning.
AESPA's early music received alot of negative comments because of the different unusual sound. But in my opinion, it's really good. Plus they, and other girl groups, were/ are compared to BLACKPINK. Which isn't fair because every group has and finds it's own sound and style. Love them, can't wait for your next react ❤

One of my favourites! The way Winter kicks it off with the "Don't you know I'm a savage?" is just killer. Love it. You got the names right Coach, don't worry! As I saw someone in the comments point out, there is actually the song Dreams come true before Girls, but you should be aware that it is a cover of an old K-pop song so it definitely has a different sound than Aespas normal thing. It would be really cool if you did both versions though, just to compare. I like Aespas better.

Some of these songs do take more than one listen, which can be true for any type of music, of course. But yeah, we're still liking this group a lot and want to hear more from them.
aespa fans are going to come after me, but this is indicative of my opinion that this group would be more popular right now if their company hadn't been obsessed with being "different" and "unique". These girls are very talented, but the AI concept and the experimentalism actually put a lot of people off. It seems like their popularity is growing faster now that they've started relying more on the talent of the group and less on gimmickry. Some fans really like the AI and lore, but it just doesn't have as wide an appeal as the company seems to have thought it would. That doesn't mean that these early songs were, in any way, bad, just that it kind of overshadowed the very real talent that this group has.
Nah for me was the opposite, i really loved this AI/sci-fi concept (the visuals and the music) but then they changed the whole concept for that "better things to do" comeback and i don't like it, i find it boring and generic but i get your point, most people would find the new concepts more enjoyable

Sadly "Savage" is my least favorite title track from aespa. They already half lost me with "Next Level" but this sealed the deal. Not because of the switch ups, I usually love switch ups. The songs just didn't work for me personally (and I never was a fan of their old "virtual avatar" concept). Though I came back later in 2022 thx to "Girls". Their 2023 line up was even better. Aespa became "Best Female Group of 2023" for me because of their amazing releases and now I'm fully on board. On a side note: Winter from aespa was on Leemujin Service. If you wanna experience her vocals (and personality) on her own in a stripped down purely acoustic live setting (not unlike to Rose's Sea Of Hope Performances) and learn a bit about Winter along the way, this episode of Leemujin Service (EP72) is really worth reacting to. Goes in general for the whole show, but especially this one, which became one of my favorites (and made me a huge fan of Winter).
"what happend?" hehe. If you watch SM cultural universe epp.1 2 and 3 you will understand the first Aespa videos better. Same goes for Girls, the conclusion of the story line. It's a cyber syfy show that SM entertainment made back in the day and Aespa was build around the show. Now days it's behind them, more or less. Girls is the last in this style so you should do that next :). There newest stuff is very good too though. Watch Drama and then do the live stage of Drama. It's really good :)

These girls are very talented, but the AI concept and the experimentalism actually put a lot of people off. It seems like their popularity is growing faster now that they've started relying more on the talent of the group and less on gimmickry. Some fans really like the AI and lore, but it just doesn't have as wide an appeal as the company seems to have thought it would. That doesn't mean that these early songs were, in any way, bad, just that it kind of overshadowed the very real talent that this group has.
That makes sense. There certainly can be negative results from stepping too far outside the box.

Nah for me was the opposite, i really loved this AI/sci-fi concept (the visuals and the music) but then they changed the whole concept for that "better things to do" comeback and i don't like it, i find it boring and generic but i get your point, most people would find the new concepts more enjoyable
They already gained a huge fandom with their concept and it seems the majority won't be happy if they just become generic like many other groups.
Not to mention even the girls were glad to put it past them 😂

Sadly "Savage" is my least favorite title track from aespa. They already half lost me with "Next Level" but this sealed the deal. Not because of the switch ups, I usually love switch ups. The songs just didn't work for me personally (and I never was a fan of their old "virtual avatar" concept). Though I came back later in 2022 thx to "Girls". Their 2023 line up was even better. Aespa became "Best Female Group of 2023" for me because of their amazing releases and now I'm fully on board. On a side note: Winter from aespa was on Leemujin Service. If you wanna experience her vocals (and personality) on her own in a stripped down purely acoustic live setting (not unlike to Rose's Sea Of Hope Performances) and learn a bit about Winter along the way, this episode of Leemujin Service (EP72) is really worth reacting to. Goes in general for the whole show, but especially this one, which became one of my favorites (and made me a huge fan of Winter).

"what happend?" hehe. If you watch SM cultural universe epp.1 2 and 3 you will understand the first Aespa videos better. Same goes for Girls, the conclusion of the story line. It's a cyber syfy show that SM entertainment made back in the day and Aespa was build around the show. Now days it's behind them, more or less. Girls is the last in this style so you should do that next :). There newest stuff is very good too though. Watch Drama and then do the live stage of Drama. It's really good :)
