Just in case this doesn't get brought up again (I am only 1:45 into the video). Helicopters are not random. You call them in by opening the full map (Tab and then select "map", or Hold M [Tapping M brings up the smaller half-screen map]) Then click on the LZ you want to go to and a window will appear in the top right corner with a button to "Call Transport". At this point the a helicopter will go to the nearest LZ to where you currently are, to pick you up. You can go from your base to any LZ, from any LZ back to base, and from any LZ to any other LZ.
Also as an addition to this comment, you can't extract on a helicopter that is dropping off other players, they don't return to the base, they just fly off the map. Friendly fire and LZ camping is also a huge issue in the game, but the game does offer a purely PVE mode that has friendly fire disabled that can mitigate this issue while we hopefully wait for a fix. Your progress is the same in both modes.

For example in Tarkov, if you kill a fellow scav, you suffer great trader penalties which are very undesirable. However, sometimes you come across a fellow scav with a million ruble gun on them, and in that case, it might be worth to take the trader penalty to get the loot, even if its scummy
edit: might've been just a bug on my end, not sure anymore if this is legit. PvE mode is also a good option until they sort out the crashes - if you get disconnected or the game crashes, you don't lose your loadout! :)

This game has no tutorial and the tooltips are bonkers so here's a couple notes: 1) you can call a helo to take you to landing zones you've discovered, and everyone starts with the closest one I believe, at least, I started with Charlie 1 unlocked on the map. B) friendly fire is on but too many friendly fires results in a force kick from the game. A friend of mine found this out the hard way when we engaged some friendlies who we didn't realise were friendlies and he got kicked after killing two of them. iii) its early access, the crashes suck but they're inevitable. I know a lot of people are coming to Gray Zone from Tarkov after the controversy with that game, but Gray Zone has had way less development time and is very clearly a work in progress. If the game was a full release and still played like this well that would be another story.
to add a few things to this otherwise excellent comment: 1) In LRI we start with 2 LZs - Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 [both at starter village Pha Lang] B) in addition to the kicking, the devs are working on a Karma system which may lead to exclusion of your faction / needing to buy yourself back in iii) i feel the game economy is set to easy mode [specially when questing] and therefor equals out the gear losses due to game crashes / bugs etc a little.. especially when mixing PvE with PvEvP and not getting into PMC vs PMC action all the time [this may or may not work as well, depending on survival rate] -and yea, just because the timing of GZW release was impeccable given the BSG drama existing then, it wasn't a "oh there's drama let's release now to profit" decision as many make it sound - it was always planned to be released in April.
I think there’s a missing ingredient that’s yet to be understood with Alpha releases. I’ve got Ground Branch, Zero Hour, Ready or Not, Six days to Fallujah, Reforger, and Star Citizen. Reforger and Star Citizen are the only ones I’d recommend buying. The player base stuck around, the games are mind blowing (when they work) and there’s a lot of variety. I see this taking the same fate as Ground Branch or RoN. There’s just not enough here to keep people engaged long term.

But I still almost immediately recognized the desktop background to be the starter town from Zelda wind waker. Exactly the same game, but everyone has really great short shorts and exclusively uses suppressed weapons and ghillie suits (also tailored as great short shorts) when they decide to team kill. Exclusive back stabbing animations are currently a stretch goal.
I’m sure lots of people have already told ya “you can call in helicopters” but here’s the full thang there’s three factions they all have their own landing zones in the beginning and you can get deeper into their territory to increase the odds of finding them. The helicopter system itself works by opening your map and selecting the lz’s that you have and returning works by clicking the base (me and my friends all got confused by that)

Just for new players! To call in an extract OR to leave the base Click on the LZ that you intend to visit on the map and at the top right hand corner there is an option to call in a helicopter! If you try and click the one closest to you it will say "LZ is too close" or something along those lines.
Dude, you CAN call in the transport helos lmao. You hold M to open the big map then click on the LZ you want to go to, the helo will go to the nearest LZ you're at to pick you up.

I'm guessing at higher tiers it has diminishing returns because you can just buy your gear again,but at low level its probably more rewarding cause you get weapons you can't purchase from vendors.
Friendly word of advice, the helo countown only starts when the person who called the helo in boards. Whoever called it in initially should be last man.
You can call helicopters yourself, they leave either when the person who called it gets on or if they miss the window, the window is big. If you called it in, wait for your friends to get on, then get on yourself.
Hey boys a quick tip to not lose gear after crash, once it puts you back at main menu, if your character is still shown having all gear you need to load in immediately. If you load into a server before your character on the main screen gets wiped you’ll end up keeping all of your kit, even looted items. Had a buddy rage quit for 30 seconds in main menu until his character wiped visually on the main screen and lost his gear. Other home boy did as I advised instead of complaining and got his gear back before it wiped. I’ve only lost kit from a full on crash that closes the game. So if you DC load back in as fast as possible
Wish there was a game like this that was singleplayer. As a dad with a toddler and working 55 hours per week, long form extraction shooters aren't an option for me :( Tried Incursion Red River but discovered it was a 100% asset flip, every single mechanic and model is lifted from the asset store, and it only has one tiny map made in the default Unity map creator. Some people like it but I have the feeling it's a pump and dump to take advantage of the Tarkov drama, will keep an eye on it, but don't have any faith in Early Access games....

Plus I remember meeting an NPC that was fully armored, ran around a corner and one tapped me even after I heard him coming and unloaded a full AKM magazine from his upper chest, through his neck, and into his face. I wish this game didn't suffer from optimization/performance and server issues. I honestly wouldn't mind being stuck at 30 FPS, but the server lag and frequent crashes make it hard to enjoy the game.
This game looks awesome! Love the idea of having to walk if you miss the heli! Reminds me of some Vietnam spec ops movie plot! Just riding in on the heli alone looks enough!
- Helicopters destination isn't random unless you're boarding someone else's. Yours goes to the LZ you want it to. - Been playing since its "release" haven't had it crash once, and yes I'm on near max settings on a pretty decent rig. So that's prolly a hardware issue. Yes, you can have a fully built pc and still have hardware issues. - Losing everything isn't as big a deal, considering the tasks aren't too bad to unlock better gear to buy and majority of the gear you'll be using can be bought Save for niche "end game" stuff that isn't unlocked till way later. So long as you aren't fumbling every sortie, gear fear isn't anywhere close to as bad as it is in tarkov. - There's talks about being able to know if you're hot dropping nearby enemies and being able to wave off to a different LZ to prevent LZ camping. - You can't currently board a heli that's dropping others off, friendly or not. (least in my experience anyways) keyword is currently, there's talks of that too. - Intentional teamkills will have a 2 strike style system that removes them from the server, if caught again after can result in a ban. Supposed to be coming relatively soon. That being said, only time someone's killed me intentionally from my team is when I've asked to be, or a friend and I were memeing. It's pretty rare, but I assume its case-by-case ig. - Also, please mess with the graphics, the presets it gives via your hardware are not right. So do like every other game and tweak em. Yes, I know this is just a sorta observational review, but it also helps to input solutions. Just telling people "Here's my experience- " and then having most of the points be negative or neutral is how a potentially great game falls off before given a chance. In this case, a decent tarkov competitor could fall off, and tarkov won't have anyone to keep them in check, letting them get as greedy as they want - like with the current 'unheard' edition of their game. Very similar to how Gaijin treats War Thunder due to zero real competition. Don't let good games with great devs lose passion because nobody wants to talk about the good they are actively trying to create and do for the community.
This is why I don't really play many PvP games, Lost Light also has some of the same issues. PvP games devolve into gremlin simulators. Something like Insurgency: Sandstorm with its co-op mode feels way less anxiety inducing, even if it's not an extraction game.

On 2, those systems never work. I swear I've seen people buy alts just for friendly fire on similar games. People will stop at nothing to be toxic.

You always pick the destination you want to go when it comes to Helis. It will come to you at your nearest LZ, or else it will say LZ too close.

i love how the devs said that the game wouldn't have the PVP issues of tarkov, but from an outsiders perspective, i can tell the dif.
Wish there was a game like this that was singleplayer. As a dad with a toddler and working 55 hours per week, long form extraction shooters aren't an option for me :( Tried Incursion Red River but discovered it was a 100% asset flip, every single mechanic and model is lifted from the asset store, and it only has one tiny map made in the default Unity map creator. Some people like it but I have the feeling it's a pump and dump to take advantage of the Tarkov drama, will keep an eye on it, but don't have any faith in Early Access games....
you can play the pve mode in this with cross progression to pvp servers. there will still be other players but no friendly fire.
There is a really good single player tarkov mod

@@zekeholliday51 Played it and loved it, but can't pause and you have that countdown timer to extract. Plus I remember meeting an NPC that was fully armored, ran around a corner and one tapped me even after I heard him coming and unloaded a full AKM magazine from his upper chest, through his neck, and into his face. Tarkov's armor modelling is/was jank
@@DeadBaron I dont know about nades but the damage should be disabled. Even if you die, no one can loot your body but yourself.

I wish this game didn't suffer from optimization/performance and server issues.
I honestly wouldn't mind being stuck at 30 FPS, but the server lag and frequent crashes make it hard to enjoy the game.
I gotta play this when i finally upgrade my computer.
Another thing about the game is that is original intent is to portray what actual PMCs do

This game looks awesome! Love the idea of having to walk if you miss the heli! Reminds me of some Vietnam spec ops movie plot! Just riding in on the heli alone looks enough!
- Helicopters destination isn't random unless you're boarding someone else's. Yours goes to the LZ you want it to.
- Been playing since its "release" haven't had it crash once, and yes I'm on near max settings on a pretty decent rig. So that's prolly a hardware issue. Yes, you can have a fully built pc and still have hardware issues.
- Losing everything isn't as big a deal, considering the tasks aren't too bad to unlock better gear to buy and majority of the gear you'll be using can be bought Save for niche "end game" stuff that isn't unlocked till way later. So long as you aren't fumbling every sortie, gear fear isn't anywhere close to as bad as it is in tarkov.
- There's talks about being able to know if you're hot dropping nearby enemies and being able to wave off to a different LZ to prevent LZ camping.
- You can't currently board a heli that's dropping others off, friendly or not. (least in my experience anyways) keyword is currently, there's talks of that too.
- Intentional teamkills will have a 2 strike style system that removes them from the server, if caught again after can result in a ban. Supposed to be coming relatively soon. That being said, only time someone's killed me intentionally from my team is when I've asked to be, or a friend and I were memeing. It's pretty rare, but I assume its case-by-case ig.
- Also, please mess with the graphics, the presets it gives via your hardware are not right. So do like every other game and tweak em.
Yes, I know this is just a sorta observational review, but it also helps to input solutions. Just telling people "Here's my experience- " and then having most of the points be negative or neutral is how a potentially great game falls off before given a chance.
In this case, a decent tarkov competitor could fall off, and tarkov won't have anyone to keep them in check, letting them get as greedy as they want - like with the current 'unheard' edition of their game.
Very similar to how Gaijin treats War Thunder due to zero real competition. Don't let good games with great devs lose passion because nobody wants to talk about the good they are actively trying to create and do for the community.

This is why I don't really play many PvP games, Lost Light also has some of the same issues. PvP games devolve into gremlin simulators.
Something like Insurgency: Sandstorm with its co-op mode feels way less anxiety inducing, even if it's not an extraction game.
