This video is a lifesaver! I spent hours connecting to the wrong wires without knowing what was wrong. Thank you
A few years ago, I replaced the radio in my wife's 2005 Trailblazer, and it was the biggest pain in the rear! had to practically dismantle everything, couldn't get the right adapter... grr... swore i'd never mess with anything like that again. But, now having seen this amazing video, I'm ready to replace the pain in the rear, lousy OEM radio in my 2006 Silverado! Thanks, great work, great vid! New sub.
Outstanding video. Please make more. I am a retired SPED Teacher (very deep well of experience and training.) I believe these videos will help the ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disability, etc. communities to become mush more self sufficient. Frankly, most of the General Education Teachers and administrative staff can take many notes from your presentation and delivery. You delivered a model in the beginning, with an explanation of the big picture. You delivered prescriptive direction with visual and kinesthetic models. You concluded with a commonly understandable summary of achievement. Bravo. Congratulations! You can teach better than most of the DOE teachers in the country. It was a pleasure to respond to your video. Thank you.
4 minutes, perfect! No bullshit, great vid. Thx.
Straight to the point, that's how you make a video!
Great video. Concise and to the point.
A few pieces of constructive criticism from a fellow DIYer that's been dabbling in car audio for 10+ years.
T taps and scotch locks are a BIG no no in the car audio world. They have a tendency to make the wire weak and prone to failure.
Crimp caps are acceptable for butting wires together, they just make your wiring harness look like poop IMO.
Butt connectors are my preferred method if I can't solder and heat shrink/tape.
To go the extra mile and really make your harness look super OEM solder and heat shrink all your connections, and then follow up by wrapping it in TESA tape.
Thank you so much! I was wondering where to pick up power at! Best install video I've seen so far!
Excellent video. The only one that answered all my questions. And not to much talk. You are the man!
Great vid! I was hooking my stereo up today and it wouldn't work..extremely helpful man!
Probably the best how to install video ive ever watched
Love your videos man, short, sweet, and to the point. Getting mine done today in my 2007 classic and all thanks to you
how did this go, i’ve got the same truck
@@stormduncan719 same I just took mine out I’m I don’t have any purple or red stock wires
Thanks bro. Simple and straight to the point. Really helped me with my install
Thank you my friend it's been a shit loud of help . i have been going nut trying to help my daughter with truck. And no power . fantastic video no extra garbage in the video thank you again my friend
Thanks for the video! It actually looks surprisingly easy compared to the speaker install I did on my 06.
Thats the easiest way ive seen yet. Mad pros bro. I kno my shit but u mad this way easier. Thank you
Damn, dude. Quick and easy. Hope mine goes the same way. Great video.
Great video, I learned a lot and now I feel confident, thank you young man. I appreciate you.
Great video ! Now I’m not too afraid to install an aftermarket stereo in our 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe 😁 (non bose, no onstar)
Thank you a ton - referenced your video a few times and got my first radio done.
Can you include all the products (make and model numbers) you bought/ used in this video? The stereo, adapters, and anything else you think we might need. Thank you
Good video. No nonsense. Straight to the point.
Thank you man. this quick, to the point vid made installing a breeze
Appreciate it man this literally helped me tons rn trying install this double din
Same model I have and an easy ass instal. Didn't even need some 20 minute video. Hell yeah
Thanks man, I was worried I’d have to relinquish the harness but seems you didn’t thanks brother
Great video easy to follow. Do most GM Silverado radios have the same connection in the back?
Really really helpful man. I didn't know where to connect the red wire to but this video helped me a lot. Thanks.
Did you figure out where the red wire was supposed to go?
So I tapped a wire into ac power. Unsure where it connects on harness. I may have missed that in video
very good about everything mostly about the wire ignition power because gm does not have power ignition.. we have to wire up to another source 12 volt power ignition. congratulations you make everything easy while others does not explain well and make them harder.
Really helped alot. Had to bypass my chime, it was causing my truck to short out bad.
Sammmmmme
Thank you. Simple and to the point. Great job sir.
I like the video! It's so easy to install a radio.you can install the radio yourself.
nice buc ees shirt haha, good instructional video man straight to the point with no B.S
thats how i roll! and thanks man
Thanks man i was trying to how to turn on my stereo thanks for the video
straight to the point I like your style
Awesome video bro quick and simple
I agree that crimps and scotch locks are garbage. Always solder and heat shrink, it's worth the extra effort. On a positive note you've got some serious mechanical talent there! Not sure if that was due to video editing magic, but popping off the panels was not so straightforward for me, and you need to be really careful to pull things off equally are you will break the plastic in a heartbeat. I did this at 50° myself and ended up breaking the plastic, so that's another thing to be careful of. It's better to work in higher temperatures with plastic or you risk the risk of breaking. I thought 50° was warm enough, but 16-year-old plastic is really brittle. I was working on a 2006 Chevy express 3500. Thank God for junk yards!
that helped a lot especially with hooking up the red 12v ign wire to the brown ac/heat wire... that was my problem so thanks a lot man.
What was that piece he had called that allowed him to hook it up to the A/C/heat
@@brandoncoffyn8024 Solderless Quick Splice
FYI you gotta take the key out after the ignition was cycled to completely kill the power going to the radio. And the interface module dose more than allow you to use steering wheel controls. So for $30 you can get the interface module and wiring adapter for your truck and not tap into the AC control system and have everything work as it should
Quick and simple. I know nothing about wiring and audio and I was able to do it on my own
glad i could help
@@casonray, What was the thing you used to tap into that brown wire from the AC unit and how did you connect it on the other end?
@@JM-ms4hu wire tapper, you can buy them from any local auto parts store. it pretty much cuts into the brown wire that you are tapping into and also the red wire that you are running to the radio.
Did u tap the wire or run it to the fuse box?
Thanks for the info was planning on getting one for my 05 tahoe cause it has the exact same radio
it doesn't matter what you get as long as you have the wiring harness for your vehicle
Good looking! Saved me loved the idea to tap into the Climate control knobs
Exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Thanks buddy! Looks like the antenna on the truck we bought for my son isn’t connected. So I’m going to have to go in and have a look.
incredibly helpful thanks bro
I have a question..i have followed the steps you have...however, i don't have power going to the aftermarket radio. I connected the wires color by color (red with Red and Black with Black, yellow with yellow)...Do i need to have a red (power) wire run to the fusebox?
Thanks for the video! Big help. Did Chevy team up with North Korea on the availability of the wiring harness? I almost bought every one that AutoZone sells before I found the right one at a flea market. I've got twice as much $ in the kit/wiring than the radio! Anyway, thanks again!
Quick, straight and easy! great video!
I made the argument that you can RUclips any hobby and said "I bet I could RUclips how to replace the stereo in a 2006 gmc Sierra right now!" So thank you for winning Me this argument.
Been my go to video for this project, been extremly helpful, one question tho, at 2:00, where does that red wire specifically come from, from the adapter or the radio connectors or does it not matter
can you tap in the ac unit if you don't want to use the steering wheel controls to keep from buying the interface cause my 2005 Chevy Tahoe has steering controls with on star but no bose premium sound
Just the right amount of explanation, top notch video.
thanks man!
I agree i been doing car stereo for 25 years on my own cars was impressed it was like watching myself lolz👍
@@casonray yo I had a question I’m not sure if you still on RUclips or not
@@area65o what up
@@casonray where did you connect the red wire to ? Ik u tapped into the other wire but the other side you didn’t show where. I’m wondering if you connected it to the red wire from the wiring harness ?
Good Job helped me out...Thanks
thanks for pointing out how to tap into the brown wire!!!
Great video. Simple and to the point! Only one question, what is the splice called that you used to connect the power wire into the A/C power?
Scotch lock
"Again its gonna feel like you're breaking it because it's so fragile" lmao
THIS WORKS THANK YOU !!!
FYI,
Do not tap into the AC power wire. Run the wire to the battery hot accessory port in the fuse box. Anytime you tie into another factory wire always solder the wires. Keep wrenching.
thats what i did the last couple times on other peoples vehicles but i was wondering if there was a quicker way, yea soldering the wires would have been better but the switched wire for a radio is like a remote wire the the amp, it doesn't really drain power to mess anything up, the main power wire was already wired to the battery from the factory harness. but yea i should have soldered the wires.
What is that blue clip called you add to the brown wire? And does the other end of that red wire just connect to the other two red wires, harness and deck?
Thank you this help a lot I’m happy.
I just spent $50 on the interface box hooked everything up now my truck won’t idle goes dead I put the factory radio back and everything is good now i’m going to try this see if this works for my truck without having the chrome box
The video is useful. I do it on a silverado and in a trailblazer.
Did you tie red to red then splice to brown ac wire?
Thanks for share this video, is very useful.
Well thanks man that was so helpful I am really proud to have you as a RUclipsr friend I love you long time
Excellent job and video
Did this exact same thing, now my damn ol AC doesn’t blow any suggestions?
Was having so much trouble with this, thanks.
Thanks bro the same truck it’s perfect
Is it possible to get door chimes and turn signal sounds with an aftermarket radio?
Gracias por subir este video, me ayudó mucho, me da flojera escribir en ingles jajaja pero muchas gracias
My speaker didn’t come with a extra wire and I was wondering why it wouldn’t turn on what wire do I use just any small speaker wire
Would this be the same for an 02 Chevy. Also isn’t there something to do with the olms in the older chevys and the Bose systems. Those look like 4 olm speakers and the default bose speakers are usually 2 olm.
You are the fucking MAN! Thanks bro. If you’re ever in the Detroit area, I owe you a beer.
For my dad birthday. I got a new double din radio installed. I did not install onstar. After a month his diesel won’t crank over. It act like fuel not being dump in. Because I did not install onstar can that be the reason. I added the adapter so that the steering wheel buttons still works. Please helps.
Does it still work good? No problems with the a/c ?
Does the ORANGE (LIGHT) wire is the same wire like ORANGE/WHITE (DIMMER)?
Thanks man helped alot, especially with the dumb red power wire
redrider9345 where do you connect it
This worked for me but the radio will only power on of the ac fan is turned on any ideas?
Just did mine and was having hard time turning on the stereo thanks for the tip on the red cable info 👍
We're does the red cable wire go into the new radio
I would just buy the interface adaptor. Don’t need to mess with the red wire after that
So you dont need to buy a custom dash kit only the bracket?
Where did you connect the other end of the red wire after connecting it to the AC
Thank you for this live saver i was so stressed it was not working even with the interface 😂
Great video !!
So do u wire the red wire straight to ac or also to the wiring harnes
do you lose the door chime when you take out the factory radio? I seen some installs that have this little module with the new harness. tks great video
this case you will loose, you need the module to keep the door chime. this is an example of the cheapest way possible
What wire does the long red wire connect two I have a red wire on my aftermarket radio harness and a red wire on the other harness
Great video.
Good video thanks man
Good information thanks bro
My truck doesnt have the wheel huttons but i do have a new radio like aftermarket wit a screen can i wire the buttons from the wheel to control the radio with the corresponding buttons?
This answers why I wasn't getting power. So I ordered the same harness you used. Question where does that long red wire connect to on the harness??
What i did was i tapped into the red wire on the stereo harness and i attached one end of the red wire and i attached the other end into the brown wire of the AC
@@abel_ea8631 yeah I figured it out. My harness came with a clip to tap into the power fuse. So I did it that way
I have two red wires on both the harness whitch one do I connect the long red on two
The red wire! Thank you!!🙏
Cason Ray great video! I have a question for you though, can you tell me what the brand name is and the part number is for that wiring harness. Also you never showed where you attached the other end of that red wire, can you please tell me where the other end of that red wire connects? I think it would be just to the aftermarket wiring harnesses red color wire is that where it connects to and is that the only wire that it connects to or does it also connect to the aftermarket radios wiring harness red wire (if there is one?)?
My aftermarket radio stopped working after about 5 years of having it and the fuse is fine. I'm guessing a wire ended coming apart or the stereo crapped out. Ill find out I guess.....
Nice Video !!
We’re does that red wire connect on the radio ?
Thanks bro it works lol
Where does the extra red wire go on the aftermarket radio harness?
Do you know what color the ac wire would be for a 2006 chevy Colorado?
What does the red cable that goes from the ground connect to? 2:50
