I’m just so confused. Why would she put her entire career at risk for something so stupid. The mascara was great by the looks of it without the falsies!!! And now she will most likely never have the support and audience she had before this again. The absolute hubris on display here is insane. Look at businesses men who bring home half a million plus a year, but they want that easy 100k right now. So they cover up a couple things, add a couple things, make it look nice, and collect more money fast. They aren’t thinking of the years they may compromise, they are thinking of money now.
On top of that.. if she can get away with it to make the product sell better then more companies will reach out to her wanting her to do that for them.

@@NotBornForThisShit I got the order of events so wrong in my last comment so I deleted it. Correction: Kylie denied getting lip filler a few times but it turns out she admitted to it a year later, a few months before she launched her lip kits.
She was only 17 and said she regretted it & thought it was the right thing to do as a role model, so it seems like she just made a mistake and her heart was in the right place.
In general, I think it's fine if people who aren't famous deny getting work done because they aren't making money off of it and it's no one else's business. But once you have a huge fanbase and have that much influence (especially with younger people) I think you kind of owe it to your fans to tell the truth.

Outing someone for having a past with addiction was NONE OF HER BUSINESS. She could have easily said “Yes that is his ex. I’d appreciate if Cody wasn’t talked about my drama content creators and that this girl doesn’t deserve to be dragged into it either.” And that’s ALL SHE HAD TO SAY. Instead she brought up a girls past struggles. Now whoever saw that video knows about a personal part that girls past. That is the sort of thing that the girl gets to decide who knows. I don't think that's a super far fetched thing to say. Well, this wasn't a good move for one specific influencer, and the way that they make everyone else view influencers, this was good publicity for the brand, for people to say good things about their mascara. I've heard plenty of people now say it's a plenty great mascara. It just doesn't give you that perfect finish that was being implied with those falsies. So, in a weird round about way kiiiIIIIIIInnnnd of. But also, it's exposing loreal and their shadiness too.

Mikayla deserves flak for her dishonest review, but someone at L'Oreal gave her the green light to post this? Like, give the influencer a side eye, but throw out the whole brand (or at least ignore all of their sponsored reviews since they let everything pass). Not a reason to invite bad folks back into the space, they might be great at 1 thing but mess up everything else in the community.

The funny thing about all of this is that if Mikayla just posted that review of mascara without false lashes and trying to deceive her audience they would actually buy that mascara because they like her and mascara itself looks pretty good. I am glad you touched on Jeffree, a gay man talking down to women. My friend group just had a big blow out over this. Too many gay men in our group were going too far calling us names, “being truthful” in their words, in our feeling very hurtful and would call out everything they thought was wrong with our makeup, clothes, hair ect. A couple of our friends that are gay men completely agreed with us and said it bothered them and that it is just a problem in general. I would love to hear others close to this particular situation in their own friendships opinions. Thanks.
I definitely agree and I've definitely noticed it's mainly white gay men that are calling women "bitches," and people seem to think that if you fall on the less privileged side in one demographic it gives you the right to use other historically derogative terms, cause like didn't he do the same thing about using the n-word and then everyone who called him out was homophobic. You can be from one marginalized group and still be bigoted to other groups.
Also I think too many gay men that are feminine presenting think that like they are women to an extent without actually dealing with any of the sexist problems women face and think they are "reclaiming" the words like "bitches" in the same way that a lot of women are trying to reclaim historically derogatory words to women

Best thing to come out of this is that I now have Jeffree blocked on tiktok too. Already had Mikayla blocked for a while. 😅 It’s incredible how time makes people forget-either because they want to because of nostalgia for a better time, or because they just weren’t there.

What always gets me about influencers using their mental illness as an excuse for something they've done isn't that it isn't connected, it's that they aren't doing anything about it.
No one can make their mental illness go away but if it's causing a pattern of negativity there are steps a person can take to get better or to find a way for it to NOT manifest in that way.
It's creating this stereotype that mentally ill ppl are completely incompetent and gives some young mentally ill kids the mentality that you can avoid consequence if something you do is caused by a mental illness.

They forget, forgive, or don't care, and so everyone will be able to carry on as per usual. Viewers are the free labour that runs the profit making machines for both platforms and creators, aside from the sponsors. Jefree wasn't even a good make up reviewer. I still remember his review of a k-beauty brand and complained about how little pigment there was and that he couldn't do a crazy heavy makeup look when that's not what the palette was for and completely ignored how different korean beauty trends are from American trends
for anyone who’s curious, what mikayla is doing is a crime in that technically it could be brought to court. it would be civil court, not criminal, meaning she wouldn’t go to prison or anything like that and it’s likely that l’oréal the brand would be implicated in it as well but what would come out of that would just be some fines. the idea is that you have to prove that the false advertising was intentional AND caused some form of damages which is why it’s so hard to get people/brands on stuff like this-it’s a $15 mascara that still works as it’s intended and it’s not going to cause any health issues, so the chances are very slim that a case would go to court at all let alone be won. it sucks but that’s the way it is. crime is for the poor while the rich get off scot free as they say
