Lester Hayes has been my favorite player since I was 8 years old in 1983. Wore 37 all through Pop Warner and High School. Put this man in the damn HOF now!!!!!!!!!

In 1980 Lester had 13 interceptions with 4 taken back because of penalties and more in the postseason. Stick was not illegal they shouldn't hold it against him like I'm sure they have. Look at games like super bowl 18, Theisman had nobody to throw to, cant throw at the judge, cant throw at Mike! That was a black Sunday for the ages. This needs to be Lester's year for HOF
He had four called back. 22 total. Arguably the best season a corner ever had.
@@greenedison6038 Hayes had 13 in the regular season, five in the playoffs (four games), and one more in the Pro Bowl (back when it was a legitimate game, BTW). Add the four that were called back (penalties that had nothing to do with Hayes) and that's 23 picks in 21 games by ONE PLAYER...INSANE!!!

My childhood was revolved around Star Wars and the Oakland/La Raiders. When we played football I wanted to be Jim Plinket and Marcus Allen and on D I wanted to be Lester Hayes! There is no doubt in my mind that Lester SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame 10000000%

Lester is my favourite Raider of all time - pretended to be him when I played corner and pretended to be Jack Tatum when I played safety.
As far as I'm concerned, the All-Time Raiders secondary has Hayes and Haynes at the corners with Tatum and Atkinson at the safeties.

It's the league that won't put them in the Raiders I think have more hall of fame players than any other NFL team don't quote me ont his though so the NFL is try to stop more raiders from going into the hall of fame this was a topic that was being discussed a few yrs back

I met Lester Hayes at my local Walmart a couple of years ago. He was one cool old school Raider. I really enjoyed talking to him. I’m a former cornerback myself. This was a beautiful video. Lester deserved to be in the HOF. Forever & always a Raider.

Been a Raider fan 55 years, through both stays in Oakland, through the extended LA "road trip" and now. Might be the best pair of lockdown corners EVER. They are the Steph and Klay of Cornerbacks. And 22 is tight, Put Judge in the HOF

Reading all the comments and seeing most people were able to watch these two which is a true privilege. I would’ve loved to just been around to learn from these guys when I was playing football in high school a few years ago. These two just furthers my love for this team bcuz it’s more than a shield. Had an SI article “Cornering the Allpro Market” written about these two gentlemen on my wall all through grade school. They were fun to watch.
I had the pleasure of finally meeting Lester Hayes after talking to him for years over the phone. He's a brilliant man, consummate professional, and so cool and personable with others. It's a crime that he's not in the NFL Hall of Fame.
I swear I was just thinking about how Lester felt when the Raiders stole Haynes...did they become friends, are they still friends? This was so awesome. Best CB duo in the History of Football...You cannot argue against it. Lester should be in the Hall.

Lester, without a doubt, had to be the most intimidating corner to ever play the game. He was as strong as a LB, and when he got in your face, in that crouch style he used...receivers couldn't have felt good about what was to come!

I got to watch them play live when the Raiders first moved to LA and I was a youngster back in the day. They were more like synchronized swimmers in the defensive backfield because they played so well off each other. Lester Hayes was one of the FIRST Nike billboards. They had him bigger than life up on a billboard at the entrance to the 90 Freeway back in LA. You know you're good when the NFL had to change RULES because of how you handled your business.
I remember that freeway billboard with Lester on it!
As a lifelong Steeler fan, always loved watching Lester Hayes play....much love and hopes for all the best for him and his family....

When I was little and in elementary school, I’m grew up on the east side of Kennewick, Washington. Economic collapse in 1979, parents divorced, lost our home, siblings got separated. All I could ever hope for was a possible Seahawks run to the Super Bowl. Lived through so many 2 - 14 or 4 -12 seasons but would hang in there with them.
Every time the Seahawks matched up with the Raiders, damned Mike Haynes and Lester Hayes to rub salt in the wound. 😂 I felt so much hate for them back in the day, now just feel warm hearted about seeing them again. Thanks Mike and Lester. It was fun to watch both of you.

Two legends of the game
I met Mike Hayes when he became an executive with Callaway Golf company. He was a fine gentleman who made you feel like there was nothing more important than talking to you. When he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, I visited with him about the experience. It is one of my favorite memories. I was, basically, a nobody, a maintenance plumber, but he treated me like l was somebody!
Haynes. The n dropped out.
