Thank you for adding games with a similar feel to the end of your video. I haven't seen anyone else do that. I have seen them say "other games do X better", but then won't say what the other games are. Good job!
I find it so weird that people don't do this, as that's how i describe games to people in my group, using games they have played as a reference point to describe a new one
There are two ways to play Canvas: i) those that go for points and make art that doesn't always work, ii) those that only go for the best art combinations because it's so pretty with what you're given.
I watched this right before I was gonna head out for a walk around the neighbourhood - now I'm gonna queue up some Queen albums for it, haha. The idea of combinable cards like this or Mystic Vale always fascinates me - I hope to try one of them eventually, when board gaming can happen again!
I Kickstarted this but have yet to play it. Like that you described it as a "brain burning puzzle game" because I had a bit of fear it might be too party game-y for our group. Bought it anyway because I'm a sucker for an art theme.
I love the game just because I work in print and design...what I may consider as bad design may not be the perception others have (no matter how misguided they are). So a game about creating art and scoring points sounds brilliant, and in the real world that is ultimately sort of how it works anyway. Great review video as always, hope you and S are managing to get sleep time!
Saw the Kickstarter for this game when it was released. Wanted to get it mainly because it looked pretty. Totally didn't because my board game shelf was (and still is) full... plus, I was on a Kickstarter addiction. So had to stop. I greatly regretted not getting this game. Finally had a chance to play it on Tabletop Simulator at the end of last year (2021) and it was super fun! Everyone I played it with seemed to enjoy it! So cool to see you do a video on it! (As a side note, I also went to check out their Kickstarter page and noticed I had JUST missed their expansion Kickstarter, too. But luckily that expansion is also on TTS.)
@@3MBG Absolutely agree! Especially since the aesthetic is so pretty. Plus they have a wonderful display method for the game, allowing it to to be hung on the wall! A great bonus to keep shelf space free!!
Have you played Calico? I bought that for my wife cause I thought she'd like the cute cats only to discover under the cute exterior is an absolute brain burner. This sounds similar in that regard. Will have to pick up a copy once it hits retail.
@@3MBG So you didn't try the achievements just casual gaming nights for people who have no idea about gaming? Well I do know it's not the best drafting game out there so I'm on the fence in this
That's not what i said. I said that's who it would be best suited to. I also played it with my gaming group of 25 years and they enjoyed it, The same group i played Gloomhaven with.

AGREED X100000!!
Yep that Freddie Mercury Card was fantastic
Was going to comment on Freddie but you beat me to it. Great cameo!

Such a beautiful game! In our games players got caught up trying to construct the best painting they could!
The fact that Freddie is in there is what made the game for me 😂 we played at BGBTB and thought it was great
The tasty bass playing in the intro 👌🏻
As an out of practice bass player, i commissioned some custom music that was bass heavy as heck :)
@@3MBG Hecka bass!

Another cracking review! So psyched to play this with my parents when they come visit next month

We are sneaking in sleep where we can. I'm back in the office, so she really is doing the lions share of the work right now with Baby
@@3MBG Well happy that things for you and the mighty S are working well!
Great review Jarrod! This game looks so cool. Thx!
Yeah, absolutely stunning looking game
FYI for other people: There’s about 4 days left for the Kickstarter for the sequel to this game (canvas: reflections)
Expansion, not sequel
The box has a hole in the back to hang it on the wall as a piece of art.
And that is what I did.
That looks good
Couldn't afford the kickstarter, will try and pick up at retail.
Oh shit I might buy this
Huzzah! I own a gold medal game!
Thanks for the video!) This game looks interesting 🤔

A big publisher should help them get this in toy stores, it would sell like hot cakes if more people were aware of it

No, i should recommend it to my cat obsessed friend to pick up though
@@3MBG its fun. Quinns appropriately reffered to it as a migraine in a box.
What do you say about the solo? And the achievements?
Worth for also solo?
Nah, the solo wasn't for me personally. I think its best suited as a slight step up game from a family friendly casual game.

Got it
How do you get inspiration tokens?
It looks fantastic but puzzles :(
I do find Modern Art is much enhanced by the auctioneer trying to talk up the painting they are selling.
Modern art, for our group, is an awful lot of "Artist X is so hot right now" and "artist Y is trash" talk :)
Pride huh? Eugh
wut?
