Try using a tighter weave cotton or linen patch material of .015" thickness. Swab out the bore after a couple of shots. Akso plug the vent hole while loading will speed up ignition. Whipe off the frizen abd especially the flint to remove burnt powder fouling, whoch inhibits the spark and knap the flint edge to get better sparks.
I have been shooting these rock crushers for over 45 years and participate in living history rendezvous for over 38 years.

Exquisite piece.A friend of mine gave me a T/C Hawken in flintlock some thirty years ago,was saving for a Lyman, but dang,if it were a woman I’d marry it.Doesn’t care what you feed it,easy to clean, goes off without a hitch,a bit of patience goes a long way with flintlock arms, absolutely deadly at the range.Tight groups, friend.

Lyman makes a fine flintlock. Just good shooting guns.

Not made by Lyman, made by Investarms in Italy.

When I was first learning how to fire my gpr i found that it was best to have half a pan of powder and kept to the outside of the pan. The powder doesn't obstruct the flash hole, and i would get virtually no hang fire.

Thank you! I love this rifle. I was skeptical it being a mass produced reproduction, but it's very well made and shoots true.

We are planning the next you-tube shoot in may. Like to do more with black powder this year. Maybe not burn the place down so bad.

Use Bore Butter, not mink oil, or any oil. Clean in bucket of water, then wipe all with Bore Butter. ( remove stock first). Cheers.

While I haven’t been shooting black powder for too long there really isn’t an issue using 3F powder as long as you reduce the load by like 5%

Now take it in the house and put the barrel in the bathtub and let it soak in hot soapy water If you ever want to shoot it again...

Is that what the mountain men did in the 1820s when they hunted in the Rocky Mountains for months at a time?

In my opinion, your patch is to thick for your ball, 5 shots should not have fouled the barrel that much. I have put as many as 50 rounds through my 50 with no issues.

@myronman3 I use 2f. Black powder. Most guys I shoot with only use 3 f on there flint locks. 2f down the barrel 3f on the frizen
