You are right. The poems that are set to the music are from a book published in 1824, that's probably where the confusion came from. Interesting fact about this poem book: Wilhelm Müller, the poet, dedicated these poems to the composer Carl Maria von Weber (you may know of him), who was the godfather of Wilhelm Müller's son. Weber died about 2 years after the book was published.
