Question about the possible cable angles: Can you use the upper cable to do face pulls - ie. can the cable be pulled (almost) horizontal away from the pulley without scraping on metal or other parts of the frame? Can you use the lower cable to do lateral raise and standing biceps curls - ie., can the cable be pulled (almost) vertical upwards away from the pulley without scraping on metal or other parts of the frame?
Yes and no. On these, and even the current versions (8-years later), you can perform face pulls off the top cable and biceps and lateral raises off the bottom cable; however, it is a lat pulldown/ low row, not a high/ pully station, so it's necessary to adjust your body position slightly to suit, so you wouldn't be pulling the top cable perfectly horizontal from the machine and you wouldn't be pulling the bottom cable perfectly vertically from the machine, you just alter your body position slightly to do the exact same thing. Perfectly doable to perform these exercises on a Lat Pulldown/ Low Row though. I hope this helps. Best regards, Matt
@@gym_professor Thanks for the info, it helped! Asking because i owned a Body solid (similar to this) where the cables would scrape on metal as soon as the angle were a bit off pulling down etc. Useless design
@@jakobkristensen2390 , yes, Body-Solid haven't changed their design for 20+ years, whereas most brands now factor this kind of use, part of the reason for the latest revisions of this Barbarian unit (now known as ATX LSW-750) has cable limiters set slightly differently (less limiting). Their higher-spec LSW-850 even has a specific setup for things like Face Pulls, although that machine is a fair bit more-expensive. I hope this helps further :) Matt
Hey Gym Professor, would you know the measurement from both floor to seat top, and floor to lower caribiner please? I am 191cm (6'3) and wondering if I would get a good stretch on this unit. Thanks
Hi there, the top of the seat is about 40cm from the ground, so, fairly low...about that of an oly flat bench. Provided that you have not got an abnormally long torso or upper limb length, then, you should find good range-of-movement. I hope this helps :)
Hi John, I'm not familiar with that as an issue...if the selector rod is correctly aligned and the right pin used, the pin should go all the way in. Have you got the most recent model and is it new? Cheers, Matt
I tend to step back and perform more a strict Triceps Pressdown, rather than directly underneath and a Triceps Pushdown using all your might. The first present no problem. The latter is workable, just recognise the compromise of the machine. All the best.
oh ok, i thought the stacked version is easier to pull than the plate loaded. Cause in the gym i go to, theres two station where the pull-intensity is very different.
As the IM2000 cable attaches to the smith bar running on bushings, I'd suggest the guide rods set up is smoother. That said, keeping bushings free from debris and greased should keep it running smooth. Best regards, Matt

157 cm
@@AstroNiels 157 cm to what? Just wondering because I read on the diagram it is 191cm to an attached lat bar from the floor.
@@robh5416 top seat till carabiner, seat is 37 cm in height.
What is the reference of the machine please? Now they sell Atx version and it 2,5 x more expensive
Hi, ATX LPL-720 or LSW-740. Prices are the exact same - 5 years on. Cheers :)
just bought the weight stack version but the selector bar on the weight stack only allows the pin to go halfway in What gives

Is there direct power transmission of 1: 1 without loss of power?
Yes, the pulley set up is 1:1 ratio, as per most lat pulldowns/ low row machines.
How does it feel when your doing triceps with that seat in the way?
I tend to step back and perform more a strict Triceps Pressdown, rather than directly underneath and a Triceps Pushdown using all your might. The first present no problem. The latter is workable, just recognise the compromise of the machine. All the best.
How smooth is the cable movement? That's all i care about really.
It's very good...like you get on most commercial machines.
whats the pro/cons of taking a stacked vs plate loaded lat pulldown?
Hi supa dupa, they're the same unit, so the feel is the same. The stack offers easier weight adjustment but is more expensive :) Matt
oh ok, i thought the stacked version is easier to pull than the plate loaded. Cause in the gym i go to, theres two station where the pull-intensity is very different.
No worries, on these two, there's no difference...they have the same pulley set up.
What's smoother this or the cables on an IM2000
As the IM2000 cable attaches to the smith bar running on bushings, I'd suggest the guide rods set up is smoother. That said, keeping bushings free from debris and greased should keep it running smooth. Best regards, Matt
@@gym_professor I've got an IM2000, it's hard to imagine anything smother if I'm honest but this looks great 👍
