    Thank you for the insight ladies. Those back falls are the epitome of trust and fit the moment perfectly. And I always find it super romantic when he wraps their arms round from behind. It was an amazingly fluid performance and for once Siegfried was as much in focus as odette.

    Thank you for analyzing this pas de deux and especially for choosing this Zakharova-Bolle performance, the first Swan Lake I ever watched, just a few years ago (now I am spoiled forever). That first paired arabesque with her arms moving so elegantly, and his hand curving gently around her waist later as she falls backward are sheer perfection, just two of many such moments during this piece. This pairing was a gift from the ballet gods and I am in awe of it! Thanks again!

    I too am glad you chose this Zakharova-Bolle pairing. I agree with everything you say about Svetlana in this role. She is exquisite and her performance is enhanced by the unobtrusive masculine strength of Bolle's partnering. His arms and hands (and feet!) always seem to be in just the right place: elegant, supportive and responsive to what his partner or the role requires. It doesn't hurt that he is so good looking either.

    Love hearing your guys’ thoughts and learning from you! Odette is for sure one of Zakharova’s best roles, her poise and maturity (combined obviously with her perfect lines) really shine through in this very tragic character. Bolle is magnificent as well, every bit the artist she is. I was so jealous when you guys were discussing how perfectly he keeps her on her leg 😂 Love this analysis type of video, eagerly awaiting the next installment (and any other video you ladies put out 💖)

    I absolutely love Tchaikovsky’s music, especially Swan 🦢 Lake’s. There’s not one bad note in the whole score. I love dancing the whole white act, even the corps de ballet (one of the most precise and taxing stamina wise along with Shades and Wilis), and the “Big Swans” part - great for taller jumpers! Being trained in Moscow, extensions are definitely expected but what makes Sveta even more beautiful and Swan like is her long arms. They can be tricky for turning and certain lines (I know the struggle! I got super long arms and have to aware of them in PDDs!). She’s my second favorite Odette only behind the GOAT 🐐 Ulyana Lopatkina 👏🏻🩰

  • @felicity1877
    @felicity1877 Год назад +8

    So well explained! I love how you are breaking down the idea of trust issues, I think this is indeed a thing (also because of Odette's rather toxic experience with men - Von Rothbart - and Siegfried had been also there with the crossbow on hunt - so also rather a danger for her). Zakharova and Bolle are a truly beautiful ballet couple and it's indeed one of the best Swan Lake recordings at La Scala; still, I feel Zakharova has more fun with being Odile. Also Bolle is too much already a perfect prince, and not the insecure young man on his 21th birthday and being grown up at last. My favorite cast is from Royal Swedish ballet Nathalie Nordquist and Anders Nordström; I really love how they are living their parts and how the frightened Odette is getting closer to him...Zakharova is pure, but not so much with trust issues (;
    Btw, what do you actually think about the expanded pas de deus ending? It's only rarely seen in productions, sometimes also as Siegfried's solo, and it turns the poetic quiet ending more in a party mood (;

    I used to do White Swan pas de deux, not the most difficult for the male, a lot of balletic walking around & posing. Though one has to achieve elegance … and the partnering requirements are essential. It’s a difficult skill to partner a woman, to support the women, requires a ton of practice … enabling her beautiful geometry, balance, turns, lifts, musically … the man should adore the woman - the male cannot feel detached from her … she depends on the man to expertly support her,, keep her on balance …
    IMHO - Swan Lake, pas de deux … white or black … are of the very best pas de deux ever .. the music, the inspired choreography ❤️

    The choreographer created the emotional arc to the melody which pre-existed. Tchaikovsky wrote the ballet first....as music. The choreographer created the storyline. Petipas originated the story with the original choreography which we know is sometimes altered to some extent, in contemporary ballet companies.

    I was interested in your comment about Zakharova being noted for her extension. I think a high extension is fine up to a point, but I don't find a dancer extending her foot up to her ear at all beautiful.
    (Alina Somova, for example.) Curious about your thoughts on this subject.

    • @balletreign
      @balletreign  Год назад +6

      We appreciate you sharing your thoughts on that! In ballet culture, it is just a sign of the work dedicated into developing the flexibility and strength to raise the legs that high, so that is what is commonly considered “beautiful”. But beauty is subjective of course! 😆

    • @emanuelebabici
      @emanuelebabici Год назад +5

      In my opinion, Zakharova's extensions are one of her most recognisable features, but it's not what makes her so great. The reason why I consider her among the best ballerinas of all time is the way she uses her body to dance and create figures, the attention she has to coordinating every part of her body, beautiful flawless arms, instense emotional interpretation and very exact musicality
