I remember as a small kid (5yr old) sitting in the backseat of the dark green colored 1.6 my father had, sideways whenever mum was not in the car. This was from a time without fancy winter tires, abs and other boring crap..... The fact I still remember it after 50 years says enough ! Wish my dad kept it for me..... He changed later to a Taunus and quickly after that a 2.0 3-door Sierra, sadly not a Cosworth.... Still drive the smaller Ford transit connect today for my job.
Just look how small it is - I love it! Even though they’re larger than life in my imagination, when I actually walk up to an Escort, Alfa GTV, long hood 911 or any number of great cars from the ‘50-‘70s, I’m always struck by how perfectly tiny they are!

I really honestly would love to come over from Ireland, even just to look at the cars. That would be such a treat. I really admire what Bill and the team do.
I had a MkII Escort, simply the best handling car I’ve ever owned. You could take that car sideways around any corner and be completely in control effortlessly 😊
👍👌... great video, Dirtfish Team!!......absolutely luv the Escort, awesome car, and epic soundtrack on the rally stages and race tracks!!!!...👌.......especially when the rear end is hanging out!!!..awesome!!!👍👍😁🤣
MK1 made the beginning of a a new rally era but my heart will always be revving on a MK2 escort to be honest. im so eagerly waiting for some shiny footage of MK2 video......please dirtfish be our Santa 🎅 (not that you havent been already throught the whole year haha 😄)
Didn’t think of it at the time but back in 1979 I had the privilege of owning a mk1 Mexico in Dayton yellow with the black stripes. Really loved that car put a Kent cam in and twin 45’s big value head, think it made about 130hp……..god knows why I sold it❤
I remember the late Paul Newman racing one of these at Lime Rock Connecticut in the '70's. Rumor was he bought the car from John Buffum. Correct me if this is an urban legend☺
Had a Mkll RS Mexico back in the late seventies early eighties.Great car with lovely rear wheel drive handling.MST build new Mkl and Mkll Escorts today.Big money though, but lovely❤️👍!
Every driver should have had an escort in some point of their life, mine was mk2 but same orange and i loved it to death some 4 years and then gave it to parts car for my friend.
What made them iconic? Success.. Always loved the lines on the mkI. Would probably take over any mkII III etc. They have such nice curves and the proportions, which they mostly kept through the generations but they lost those lovely curves, are just about perfect.
Always jealous that America got the Pinto while Europe had Escorts. When we finally did get (fwd) Escort in 1981, it had been Yankee-ized with a bordello interior and marshmallow ride.
The Mk 1 in this video came from Wales 🏴 originally. I remember this escort around 40 years back 😮. I have a pair of genuine glass rectangular headlights if you know anybody?.
All that money for a "gasping" 120hp 🤣 They were tin cans to go to work in, .. They are only original once and that has gone when they are over restored like that, they were NEVER made like that

I'm a simple man, I see a Dirtfish video, I watch the Dirtfish video, I like the Dirtfish video.
The London - Mexico cars were equipped with the Kent-Crossflow engine and not the BDA engine.
This is true it was the Kent engine but highly modified to a capacity of 1850cc not a 1600cc found in the road cars
All the anoraks flew to see if this comment was here 😂
It was the 1800 MK2 that used BDG right?

@RallyeRacin9 oh wow thanks for sharing the info. Hadn't realised the whole family fell under the BDA badge. The more you know, right? 😂 Thanks 🙏

Sideways isn't good handling its actually quite terrible.
@ only if you don’t mean too. I meant every single one 😉

staggering workmanship on the restoration. please do more profiles on some of BGMsports work. I saw an RS2000 hiding outside the garage to .....
Its look is timeless.
Lucky to have several Mk1 and Mk2 escorts in the past. Brilliant cars.
The Mk3 was the beginning of the end for me.

Love the color on his car, very nostalgic

probably reliability, in the period where rear-wheel drive was king

I owned one RS1600 BDA 1971 model, I still regret selling then, it was due to changing my job.
Every driver should have had an escort in some point of their life, mine was mk2 but same orange and i loved it to death some 4 years and then gave it to parts car for my friend.
Very nice fair play to them they made a beautiful job of that escort
The owner is a very lucky man

Maize yellow looks so much better in modern 2k paint. Maize always looked a bit drab in cellulose.
With a FAX number plate would that have come from Gibb's Garages Tredegar as the RS dealer of the day?
Malcolm Gibbs could peddle a car. It would have been good to have explored the history and visited Tredegar.
@@beachamgroup2482 absolutely :)
Even with a 1300 Escort you could have the fun of your life on snow gravel aso! so easy to dr....ift!
i want one with the bda engine
This kind of content is so much more enjoyable than those videos with Colin Clark.
The escort was better then the Mini fs
Ford escort mon pere a longtemps hesiter entre la capri est l escort capri a gagner il en a eux 2 ❤😅
Brands hatch not rallying
Ford came here and pooed on the UK. No matter how good of a car the mk 1s and 2s were. They are dead to me now.
